  1. For a -1° seat tube angle change, an (identical) saddle will move forward about 8mm to maintain the same saddle setback (tip-of-saddle to center-of-bottom bracket). Relying on the numbers above, in that situation you would use the same stem length with the Calfee.
  2. I can say with roadbike fit, I expect all of my numbers to be met precisely by the frame of choice. Much of this has to do with the nature of handling the terrain its designed for, and the long periods of repetitive motions involved. With mtb's I still want the right sized frame, but there is a lot more leeway. In terms of fit a custom mtb frame has little benefit for my needs, so its value over a production bike will rest on what it brings to the table in terms of suspension design and handling.
  3. Ahh, I was being facetious (without trying, apparently). In truth its not at all about the cost, but about my own predilection for frame builders whose talents are more heavily weighted towards the ideals of frame geometry in terms of bike handling. I'm not saying Firefly is lacking, but that I know nothing of their ideas in that area. Dave Kirk is an open book in this respect, and so is Dario Pegoretti.
  4. Firefly's are too beautiful for me, price-wise. Otoh I can't say that I didn't spend a couple of days last week re-familiarizing with the updates at Dave Kirk's website. Price range? Check. Desirability? Check. Delivery wait? Right now just within range. New decals? Hmmm, can live with it.
  5. Someone got a pretty good deal on my 2010 Roubaix Comp Rival, with less than a year on new Force derailleurs/crankset, Red shifters, 1100mi on a new chain and cassette, and 1500mi on the original Mavic Aksium wheelset. Hated to see it go, but old habits die hard, as I've always been happier to have one road bike. I do however have just about all the parts coming in next week for a singlespeed commuter build, on a late 90's 60th Anniversary Schwinn Paramount (Reynolds 853). Its quill stem and steel fork cool.
  6. Sweeet! The new equipment is uber cool, and I would love to have a totl full suspension bike, but my mtb days are over. Somewhere along the line I lost the bike handling skills, from when I had a Cannondale Beast of the East with Pepperoni fork (talk about rigid). Its the bike I was riding when I blew out both my knees on Sierra Rd in San Jose.
  7. Your progress is impressive. Guess I get to post a pic for the new thread. Its set up with Chorus 11s now so I need to get some new pics... IMG_0146 by pigmode, on Flickr
  8. Wanted to update my quote above from 4 months ago. That was with a Jkenny MK3 USB/SPDIF converter which uses the same chip as the Neko, the WM8804. Have since switched to a Wavelink HS and that condition no longer exists. The improvements run across the board, especially with acoustic instruments. All is well in the digital arena, and now a time out before looking into amplification.
  9. I'm intrigued by the rubidium clock in a less ostentatious (and cheaper) implementation.
  10. I need to find out about future availability of the AD1 BA.
  11. With a new bike I'd say remove the variables, and start with what you're used to. Develop the new relationship with the bike--discover exactly what you have. I see good riders who use spd, and there's lots of time to experiment.
  12. Cool, I just need to bide my time and see what unfolds with time. I probably need to audition an 009 system before making a decision.

Just got the HDtracks 15% coupon code (hd4). Dire Straight/Brothers in Arms 24/192 is downloading as I type.
  14. I'm doing nothing today and lovin' it. The plan is to visit the latest competitor from Japan for an ongoing local ramen competition (yum).

Whoa, I thought you meant 9 stones of whiskey. That would have been a deal!
  16. Cool. I think I got my Zenyatta Mondatta at the same time.
  17. I bought my copy at the local MacIntosh audio store.
  18. Up late tonight. These occupy two very different corners of fusion, and not much loved these days, I know. I remember having these on copy after copy of self-destructo 8-tracks. I loved Wayne Shorter's tenure with Weather Report--he was so brilliant and soulful on the cuts Gibralter, Cannnonball. Playing now: Watermelon Man.
  19. Oh wow, I remember listening to that stuff on 45s. He was hilarious on The Brady Bunch Movie.
