- Just one good game.
I lived through the "golden era" of PC gaming, and have a trunk full of CDROMs to prove it. Sadly, I don't have copies of the M&M IV or V, but I see they are on Abandonia. Holy CRAP. The Steam daily sale just came live, and both Bioshocks are $5 each(!) If you lack them, pick them up NAO (whether or not your name is Tyll).- slower forum

I don't remember M&M III that well, but it's successor was the stuff of legend. IV: Clouds of Xeen and V: Darkside of Xeen combined into one game "World of Xeen." The CDRom edition really pushed the envelope of voice acting in games. Virtually all the major characters talked via audio tracks on the CD. It was pretty amazing stuff for the time. At the time I had a friend who had it running on a blazing fast 486, and I was jellin'. If we were in 1993, I'd seriously suggest that Tyll use it to test out gaming headphones. Here in 2011, I think the Bioshock suggestion is probably the best suggestion made here. Right now it's on sale on Steam for $13.39.- slower forum
- The Official Head-Case Photography Thread.
I gave this some thought while I was driving across the state this evening. Two important points: 1. All digital cameras are ultimately disposable. All of them. 2. The best camera is the one in your hands. That might sound a bit cliche, but 5 years of shooting with a DSLR has proved both points to me many times over. If you need to get back into photography, almost any camera is a good start. If you have glass that fits the Pentax mount, then find one of their entry level DSLRs that will work with your lenses and go. Spend less, not more, realizing that this camera is only going to be temporary. Mike Johnson, aka The Online Photographer, made an excellent post about starting in digital photography. It doesn't exactly apply to your situation, but it's a good read and has a lot of valuable information in it. Especially the part about buying a new monitor.- slower forum

True dat, but Hoya is keeping the medical division of Pentax. While I doubt it's worth $875M, said division is quite profitable and owns a lot of valuable tech.- Head-Case Steam Group join up!
Oh, snap. Steam Summer sale means the motto of a certain other headphone site becomes very true over here.* *As I have said before, Head-Case has cost me many thousands of dollars more than that other place and I always felt my skin more abraded over there by the creepily enforced artificial niceness.- slower forum

Tentatively, I'd say yes. Ricoh has made some neat compact digital cameras in the last few years, and some cross pollination with Pentax's DSLR line will most likely be mutually beneficial.- NAS vs. Drobo Storage for Mac Audio/Video Server
Putting this here as I don't think it's worthy of its own thread. Reddit thread purportedly from an ex-Data Robotics employee, including a dump of internal DR documents. Decompressed mirror of the contents of the archive. Redditors in the thread thusfar seem to think there isn't much scandalous in it. In fact, if one digs deep enough in the thread, there appears to be fair number of happy Drobo users. The whole thing seems more than a bit suspect to me, but I have not gone through the documents. For whatever reason, the docs include this:- slower forum
