Stax SR-80 connection question
The SR-80 was originally bundled with the SRD-4 (Electret Adaptor). Can the Electret phones only be connected to a SRD-4 or to any adaptor/amp? The reason I ask is because I have a SRD 6 / SR-5 combo and and would like to add a SR-80 to it.

Balanced amp on the cheap - suggestions anyone?
Uh, 850$ is such a little bit more then the 300$ I would have been able to spend, so I think I will pass this one... And then there is the question of 110V vs 220V.. But thanks anyway, any other suggestions?

Sounds like reterming the K340 is at least a thing to try. Will do and let you know

Balanced amp on the cheap - suggestions anyone?
Whoa, I never thought that you think me stupid, or even the particular question You have made it clear that the budget is not worth it, plus I had never really considered the question of where balanced started. So if at all I would think about something dual mono or thereabouts. The K340 right now is my main phone, I have a few AKG 2xx coming in, some of them 600 Ohms, oh and a K1000 that is just passing through... So indeed at the moment I am more thinking about using a standard speaker amp to drive the cans with divided ground and see how that goes. Does that make sense??

ok, so basically you are telling me that I asked a stupid question.... So herewith you can consider this question unasked, thanks for your input, from now on I will rather concentrate on other aspects of headphone listening / tweaking.

K1000's with gainclone amps?
I have run a Diyparadise Charlize (http://diyparadise.com/charlize.html) with the K1000 and that sort of works... So a gainclone if properly powered should have more then enough drive, however with a K1000 I have to admit that I would be very, very careful about DC offset on any DIY amp.

Duggeh, you probably are right, but I have a SE amp, this is about exploring new frontiers

Balanced amp on the cheap - suggestions anyone?
Ok, the phones I am talking about are K340 and the like, so a Cmoy is not really an option (imo). Lets clarify, with cheap I mean something around 300$, if that makes any kind of difference...

Balanced amp on the cheap - suggestions anyone?
After doing my first recable I find that I would like to see if really running left/right separate make a difference. So now I am looking for a nice easy cheap (!) solution. Ideas anyone?

AKG K340 modding thread
Oops, quite a few answers. robert1325, welcome to a never ending quest (at least for me). I am very interested in what you have to say about the K340. I got mine already heavily modded, and I am already afraid that quite possibly 20years from now they might die Anyway, it looks like I need to reterminate mine to actually test them with a few amps. But before that I have a few other AKG coming in (600Ohms) that I will recable and test before I start fiddling with the K340. Having said that the idea of getting a second pair that I could mod myself... hmm ... the sound of a crying wallet in the background...

AKG K340 modding thread
Question: has anyone of you ever tried running a K340 from a standard speaker amp (recabled of course)? I tried that with a K280 but I assume due to the lower impedance got a bit of hiss. I assume that the K340 (just like the K1000) could be nicely driven by e.g. an T-Amp, I just do not want to mess with my pair just to try. Although I probably will have to if no one dissuades me...
