  1. I thought I made the point a while ago - they are nice, just not as amazing as they are made out to be by some folks over at HF.
  2. Blame SRS-005a for my ability to hear higher frequencies ;-).
  3. He's been working on it for a while, oh believe me there.
  4. Well at the price they may be worth a jab strictly because if they driver has at least some potential (same great imaging and detail), then maybe the newer models are worth looking at.
  5. When I listened there, Dared made things sound pretty damn bright, with lots of heat going on in the midrange and up...for me that just tensed me too much, i'll take somewhat softened treble over the heat when listening alot.
  6. I just read that Russian site: there are two headphones listed, both are dynamics. They are made by a British company Arthur Forty (oh...wait, that's the tread title :-P) - so they are not eastern European or anything. The EWS 1X is listed to be designed purposefully for listening to acoustic music and thus (they actually say that out loud!) colored to accent the tone of string, brass, and woodwind instruments. They are 32 ohm with 109 dB sensitivity, so my guess is that they were not really targeting the audiophile market...but then why the hell did they use wood and make it so ugly... the driver is 40 mm, on the side of larger dynamic drivers in headphones.
  7. Burn-through much? Lets see what happens...
  8. I guess I can add an extra output that drives the tea kettle coils.
  9. I'll take one of these for a night light.
  10. Some of the ideas in this thread may have just explained the original craptor PSU's turn-on tremors...
  11. Seems to be just a tad pointless for most people seeing how B22 will work nicely for up to 50 watts >.<.
  12. K501 ain't closed ... Contrastique, I chose ESW9 over Ultrasones, when I had the Proline 2500 (although I would take HD600 + amp over either since its actually more neutral, not exactly 'lush', HD650 is 'lush'). Edition 9 will have the same suck-out in the midrange, although no quite as extreme, you can find that out very easily by comparing to a more even-sounding headphone. That sadly sums up the closed headphones you could use on the go...you can try bass-light K340 in a moment of insanity, and Larocco PRII will probably not disappoint, it certainly was interesting when I had W5000 and it had enough power to get K1000 up to volume. Another portable option is Stax SR-001mkII - but they are open, so you give up isolation on the spot (but they won't leak). In this case you will have more speed than Proline will ever offer, great midrange, somewhat boosted midbass and tad softened highs...eat batteries like no other though, so better use rechargeables, and carry an extra pair with you if you are going to listen for the whole day. That is about it...if you really can get yourself to go into the world of open headphones - consider giving ATH-AD2000 and HD600 a good run.
  13. Or maybe the military got on his ass and told him to stop letting people know they sell their secrets to the common man. I am sure if taxpayers found out that the money is used to fuel joys of some forum full of nuts, Iraq would be forgotten about in 30 seconds.
  14. I think somehow the headphones that particular person is addicted to have intelligence-degrading effects. Either that or he snorts every hour...but then nah because I am aware of some members here with such intakes who maintained more braincells than I have after a month with the Ultrasones. Wasn't he the second biggest Edition 9 proponent after Sovkiller?
  15. From my experience, 252a is better than 001, but there are DIY modifications that can be done to 001, that supposedly put it on par with 313. (The headphone I use with either amp is 001/003, which is same driver, but different plug basically).
  16. I need to run one SRD-7 pro, not 4 of them ;-) (although 8-stat parallel action sounds pretty tasty)
  17. While we are on topic of B22 - for a 4-channel build, how many Sigma boards would be reasonable in order to power SRD-7 pro?
  18. ESP. A250 is bordering treble-heavy at times, I am not particularly a fan of it, although I recognize that at the price it went before it was discontinued, it was pretty damn good.
  19. It is a tad try, but maintains great presence and is rather even. HE60 is actually a good point of comparison, I agree.
  20. That's fine as long as I don't end up with glass in my ears...either way, I guess I will have to get me a shield of bullet-proof glass for testing purposes. That's not helping the costs...
  21. Hmmmmm...risk of resistors flying all over the place might warrant doing it with the bigger, filament-crawling amp. At least if things go wrong, the fireworks are bigger.
  22. I am aware...although don't tell me the difficulty of finding them is just going to drive the costs up substantially (.
  23. Heh...here we go again. I am contemplating either building KGSS or Blue Hawaii...former is far more attractive because it is like 1/2 the price and much easier. If things go well, I might build it while in NJ - I want to do mini-millet first, for which parts have not been delivered for yet.
  24. Ya, probably.
