Nibbler, the bearded dragon?
* Paging Dr Freud, Paging Dr Freud *

CJ,
You may not appreciate it now, but you had a good day in the grand scheme of things. There will come a time when your parents are no longer around. You will miss them. You will wish you had spent more time with them when they were around. You get to keep the memories of this trip. At some point all you will have is the memories. Cherish them.

Didn't you know warm air sounds better than cold air.
It's also less dense, so the sound waves have an easier time traveling, and thus aren't so tired out by the time they reach your ears, and who doesn't prefer energetic sound waves to fatigued ones, or something
-
Why does burn-in only ever improve the sound, and never make it worse?
How does it know when to stop?
Some cynics have argued that its just a sneaky ploy by vendors to overcome buyers remorse - keep it for a while, and you'll convince yourself you like it, especially after spending all that money on it. After all, who wants to feel foolish for spending so much on something they don't like
Happy 4th.

In case you missed it in the CJ Thread

It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all.
It's a small, small, world.
Now try getting it out of your head

Make sure you go on the "it's a small world" ride. It will leave you with lasting musical memories

Are you saying that double-blind studies have shown that expectation bias is real, to a statistically significant degree?
Why, next you'll be saying that there may not be a causal correlation between sound quality and price in audio gear.
And where would that leave us?
The horror ...

goddamn thats a long thread

O.K. The main 2-channel rig is done, until I upgrade the analog output stage on the 840c.
Snap!
Oooh, nice. Welcome to the thinking mans part of our hobby.

That's a bit like asking, whats the best colo(u)r for a Chameleon?
You could do worse than the pop-tastic The Singles Collection as a starting point.
But he's so much more than that. David Bowie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Starting at the beginning and working chronologically lets you appreciate the ch-ch-changes.
Or you can just make fun of him.

Sounds great Grahame. BTW, how difficult is it to setup the Sqeezeboxes/Transporter even without a network? I've seen some of the 45 minute tries at meet and always left mine at home. Would be interested in bringing here. And could bring the Touch which I also use with iPeng.
That's why I travel with a known good network
There's a Linksys WRT54GL providing DHCP, wireless 802.11G + 4 ports for a wired network. I have some other 5 port switches I can bring so everyone can play on the network - we could even have multiple (slim)servers on the network - any spare Cat5 cables, bring them along.

Active speaker Request.
==================
Since it looks like we're going to be demoing speakers at some point
(Either in the main room, or maybe in one/some of the guest rooms?)
Anybody have any active/powered speakers worth demoing for 2ndary setups, I'm thinking active Quad12L's , Audioengine A5's, A2's and the like.
JP - if you don't think this (the active speakers demoing part) is a good idea, please say so. I totally understand.

I can't help you with your liver, other than suggesting Chianti and some Fava Beans, but your bits are more than welcome. I was going to bring an external drive, but may have to get extra supplies. The closest Fry's is in Palo Alto, but there is a Costco in Foster City. Almost on our doorstep.

Thanks to the nice UPS man, I can confirm the following slimdevices sources
Transporter,
Duet (Controller & Receiver)
SB3
All driven off a laptop based network, and some HD650's for listening
Should make for some interesting DAC comparisons...
I'll remember to bring a bunch of power strips,
See you all there
P.S.
I'll bring the nokia 770, get the iPeng plugin installed, and if there are any iPhones/iTouches present we can have a controller comparo as well.

You said cheap, $2.55 cheap enough for you?
even comes with those high-falutin' "Fancy" connectors
www.monprice.com -Audio Cables - Digital Coaxial Audio
Hey at $2.18 for 50+ how about a group buy

The nice UPS man delivered it just in time for the NorCal meet.

As some of you already know, we, here in the East, have decided to hold our own meet on the 28th. Agile_one, NightWoundsTime, tyrion, HighLife, crappyjones, and, hopefully, I will be at Gene's on Sat. and Sun. Will we have the gear you have? No. Will our meet be filled with eager head-fiers, trying out the newest and bestest? Nope. Will will care? Highly unlikely. Will will interrupt your meet as often as possible with stray and repetitive phone calls and increasingly obnoxious posts in your impressions threads?
Is that the Cat Scratch Fever talking? Hmm, "alteration of mental status"? How could we tell?
Hope you get to enjoy a meet, and as a reigning monarch, your loyal subjects cater to your every whim.
Now forewarned, I fear Team NorCal Will engage in pre-emptive smack talk in your impressions thread, OK. Just make sure that that young whippersnapper CJ# doesn't get started with his "free variables" crazy talk.
The days are counting down, and I have a UPS tracking number just in time for the meet. Ooh fun!

You notice I didn't post the name of the store. At these prices, JP might drive down and buy it all!
Which raises the question, what will you be bringing to CanJam 08.5, The NorCal Summer Meet? I think JP, Justin, et Al (hows that for a latin pun? ) Have just found their new liquid refreshment provider for the meet.

It cooks, it cleans, it fights communism. What's not to like?
Food Like this ?
Garden Salad #1.
Imagine you're hungover. Deeply hungover. Someone presents you with this - and shakes the plate so it wiggles. Frankly, it already looks like someone heaved into a mold and stuck the result in the fridge. But that's Gel-Cookery!

Whoa. That thing is awesome.
I want one.

I was not partial to the transporter at all and think you would be better served with a dac for the SB.
X2 on the duet mac mini front as well. If you can hold out we can compare the the SB>dac to the apogee duet at the meet in San Mateo.
I could bring along the Transporter, jp11801 can explain what he prefers, and why (with examples ) and we can all have jolly good comparison.
Think of some reference material - so its not the mastering that is the issue.
Who do we know with, say, a Balanced B22, so we aren't amp limited in the comparison
Should be fun regardless.

Isn't that the definition of a (non) meet?
