Really interesting read
Cool article. My wife and I haven't had cable for 6 years (me for and I gotta say life is better that way. We really only watch 1-2 hours a day and we don't mindlessly flip channels. We're focused TV-on-DVD watchers. We sit down with a viewing agenda and stop when it's done. But the internet is the big one for me. Even when there's shit to read on the few forum I frequent I still "flip channels" through sites.

The Headcase Stax thread
Yep...I'm waiting for him to pull them again like he did last time. "Oh I think I'll listen to them since so many people seem to want them...teehee." But yeah, if I had the cash I'd pony up to hear them.

New phones please
[lambdafanboymode] You might think about some Lambda Pros. They've got a little more punch. Definitely a fun can to listen to and help shake you out of a funk[/lambdafanboymode]

The Headcase Stax thread
Yep and there's a new one in it's place. I'm thinking someone reported him for advertising headphones at Head-Fi and having an eBay thread. I guess they prolly wanted him to make a thread pointing to the eBay auction instead of impling that he was going to sell off Head-Fi? Oh well, too rich for my blood either way....or is it?

The Headcase Stax thread
Well it's certainly not going to be a secret for long, so: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=180070640374&rd=1&rd=1 and http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=216965 Same cans, same guy. He teased us when he listed these about 5-6 months ago and I think some serious offers were thrown his way. We'll see how this plays out.

Welcome to the Vinyl Jungle
Yeah no I know...it's good overall...I get a little hiss through my lambdas, but it could be somewhere else as well. I'm running the turntable through my denon integrated receiver (only phono stage I have right now). Then I have the tape loop out going to a Stax SRM-1/Mk2 or out to a Meta42 for dynamic cans. So some of the noise could be from the amps or the integrated....it's not the best amp in the world and I've had some noise issues with it in the past. Overall it's pretty quiet...I can't wait to get a "proper" audiophile phono stage hooked up to it. I highly recommend it!

Welcome to the Vinyl Jungle
Noise floor? Oh geez I don't know...I guess it's good. There are these pops and cracks sometimes in the sound...I don't get it, my CDs don't do that. I borrowed a friend's VPI machine to clean most of my records...that worked well but was a process...time consuming and a pain in the ass. Otherwise I use a DiscWasher thingy....it's a brush covered with a velour type material and a bottle of cleaner...works well if you ask me. I also have a dry brush...usually I just clean the record with fluid once and then use the dry brush each time a play....three rotations with the dry brush, drop the arm and sip some Scotch...ahhhh.
- Happy New Year!!!

Welcome to the Vinyl Jungle
You can adjust tracking force, but VTA, azimuth, I don't know....probably not. There is very little by way of instuctions. The thing is plug and play. The cartridge is already installed. I'm assuming that you can put a higher Rega arm on it since they all look very similar, but there is nothing in the documentation that indicates that. It's super easy....I was up in running in 10 min.

I've been ruined...RUINED
Well, I just dove in with a new Rega P1..I know the very low end of vinyl, but I'm very happy with it. For $350 it's a pulg and play setup (cartridge already installed and super easy setup) it was worth it. I have just enough records for this small expense to brighten up a smaller corner of my music collection. Another $300 for a phono stage and I'll have a respectable vinyl rig (IMHO). I don't have enough to warrant a VPI or anything like that, but the bug bit and I'm scratching.

Funny music-related comic
Dude the STP one had me rolling...that is so damn true!

HD650 vice-grip
I generally prefer the 600 over the 650, although I've heard both shine. The Blackie Pagano 300B amp at the National meet made the 600 shine...the SDS-XLR makes the 650 shine. Nothing is quite as good as a pair of Stax though

F-35A First Flight
Pshh, that's nothing dude...I build my own HEADPHONE AMPS! Seriously, that's cool man...I wanted to go to the Air Force Academy as well. I hope to get a private pilot's license someday. Congrats!

Welcome to the Vinyl Jungle
Whoa, good call man...didn't even think to check out Nelson's site for a Phono stage....have you heard either of those?

Welcome to the Vinyl Jungle
Yeah that's one I'm looking at right now. I'll probably go that route initially.

Welcome to the Vinyl Jungle
Oops, that's Nylon Jungle Ahhhh the analog sounds of a rock being scraped over a piece of pressed plastic. Can't beat it. I was bound to get here at some point. I've resisted it for awhile, mostly due to cost and upkeep hassle and the pesky need to flip over something when 1/2 the album is over. But a friend mentioned the new Rega P1 turntable, it's great price and the fact that it's plug and play...so off I went to the local Hi-Fi shop to greet my smiling Rega dealer. Of course so thread is complete without pics: This is my first real dive into hi-end vinyl and it's a budget entry for sure, but so far, I gotta say, not bad at all. I'm running it through my Denon integrated receiver and using the tape loop out to my SRM-1/Mk 2 into my Lambda Pros. I guess I need to build a phono stage now....it never ends
