Finally, on the third attempt, I was able to get my carbon-ceramic tint done and remedy the fish bowl effect on my car. Couldn't go that dark because stupid laws. Before After

I think it is a pretty great looking car. I will definitely check it out, I just didn't realize Miatas were still around.

The high end cars and coffee has been building up anticipation for a special car this weekend. Everyone was thinking an FF or some other new supercar. Instead it is the new Miata. I was not even aware there was a new Miata.

So, will this be a HC Road Trip event? http://www.waterfest.net

That seems like a seriously dangerous road to ride on. So many blind corners, blind hill tops, narrow lanes and people wandering across lanes as they take the sharp corners. I would never get on a bike on that road.

Real, there are tons of those around here.

I was there with a buddy today so I did not take many pics, but the selection at this show was over the top. So many fantastic cars there this morning.

Okay, I have determined that the S4 is not boring, the roads I get to drive on regularly are boring. Made it to Katie's Cars & Coffee this morning and left with a bunch of guys on Georgetown Pike at seriously fun speed. For some reason a large group of cyclists decided to ride this windy, zero shoulder, road this morning and they were all fat old guys. Made for some interesting driving as everyone coming towards us was jumping out to pass the bikes and not always gauging how much time they had to make the pass. Interesting. One for Dan

Going to try to do some VCDS tweaks tonight before heading out to Katie's Cars and Coffee tomorrow morning. http://katiescarsandcoffee.com/ If I can actually figure out how to work the damn thing I intend to do these: Disable LED 'wink' on turn signal Disable "Lights are on" warning Disable NAV & Phone warning messages while entering data at speed Disable Seatbelt Chime Enable Adaptive brake lights Enable Ambient Interior Lighting Control Enable Automatic Gear selection shown in DIS Enable Battery meter Enable Euro parking lights that turn on signal at night Enable fog lamp to come on for the same side as that turn signal Enable Front Turn Signals as Parking lights Enable Import CDs to MMI's HD Enable Lap Timer Enable LEDs remain bright for parking lights Enable Remote Operation windows&sunroof Enable VIM on MMI Set Audi parking system - Switch OFF Speed Adjust LED Brightness

I have been to a few of those driving schools. They are tons of fun, even more so if they let you use your own.

Nate, I do not think there is anything wrong with the car. It is a really nice car, I just wanted to move to something a bit more fun/special but wanted to go fairly basic so I was always going to be a bit disappointed. It will be fine, I just think I will end up upgrading to something else before I get out of warranty, as I do not want to buy the extended warranty, and I definitely do not want to drive an Audi outside of warranty. I believe I spoke to someone that was TD1 because of an AWE cat back exhaust. They are pretty tight with anything if you happen to take it to the wrong service rep.

The car will be gone well before hitting that many miles.

I would be very leery about trusting the Internet Lawyers as once you are TD1, you are screwed. I remember in my BMW days how many people tried to argue legal protections and BMW telling them to pound sand as they can always prove the tune/upgrade had something to do with the failure. My first M3 had new suspension and from then on anything that happened with rattles was always blamed on the upgrades and they would not even look at it. Now if you are out of warrany, then go for it. I saw several people buying new VW Turbos because theirs blew up after they got APR. Whether APR had anything to do with it or not, they still lost their warranties. The HP increase is not remotely worthwhile to me as VW/Audi is not my most trusted reliability brand to begin with.

It is evidently a VW driven as the computer is set up by them to search for programming changes so if you pay $100 to flash stock and restock each time, they can detect it in the system. Evidently you have to find a good service manager to become friends with or it will be caught and pictures taken and put into the VW system.

I have talked to 8 people in the last week that are TD1 or whatever from showing up with apr, etc upgrades. Including the guy that works at Audi HQ. They just think it is worth it.

It is okay, if you can actually drive it it is okay. Driving around town in non-sport mode it is amazing boring. No sound, fairly pedestrian take off. It is just not an interesting car to drive during normal driving.

Trying to figure out the worthwhile changes for the Vag com thing. Most of the non-lighting things from the list already happen on my car. (Reverse mirror tilt, guage sweep, etc.). Everything else seems to just be changing how the lights work. Several others I have to research as I have no idea what the acronyms mean. Any recommendations on must haves from this list? The parking assist turn off time is biggest for me as the backup camera stays on way too long after you put it in drive and take off. Disable After-wipe of windscreen wipers Disable amber corner lights Disable amber side markers Disable Key warning (keyless models) Disable LED 'wink' on turn signal Disable "Lights are on" warning Disable NAV & Phone warning messages while entering data at speed Disable Seatbelt Chime Enable Adaptive brake lights Enable Ambient Interior Lighting Control Enable Automatic Gear selection shown in DIS Enable Automatic Hill Hold Assist 'lite' Enable Auxiliary ventilation Enable Battery meter Enable DIS with Efficiency Program Enable Double Disarm Beep Enable DRL Selectable via MMI Enable DRL Enable Euro parking lights that turn on signal at night Enable fog lamp to come on for the same side as that turn signal Enable Front Turn Signals as Parking lights Enable Gauge Test/Needle Sweep Enable Hidden menu in MMI Enable Import CDs to MMI's HD Enable Independent Fogs control with high beams Enable Lap Timer Enable LEDs remain bright for parking lights Enable Rear Tail Lights on with DRLs Enable Release Parking Brake without putting foot on Brake Enable Release Parking Brake without putting seatbelt Enable Remote Operation windows&sunroof Enable Reverse mirror tilt Enable Speed through MMI Enable TPMS Enable VIM on MMI Set Audi parking system - Switch OFF Speed Set Custom ADS settings Set Headlight washer - cycles Set Headlight washer - duration Adjust Consumption in DIS Adjust LED Brightness

Yeah, tuning would help, but each of those things would end my 50,000 mile warranty as soon as it made an appearance at the dealer.

Raffy, it is entirely possible I will get too bored with this and sell it off to get something nicer. I tend to waste a lot of money buying things trying to be sensible instead of just getting something worthwhile from the beginning.
  22. VPI replied to VPI's topic in Miscellaneous
No not really. Audi dealer was pretty disappointed when I told them how boring I think the S4 is.

Just put on my custom Audi car cover as I will be traveling for a bit. What a massive piece of $300 shit. Tissue paper that does not fit well and will maybe last 3 weeks. Should have gotten one of the online custom covers.

I prefer the looks of the Golf R myself. And sound is not a competition as the S4 makes no sound.
  25. VPI replied to VPI's topic in Miscellaneous
Saw a Red Golf R pass by on the walk to work today. That car just looks and sounds so much better than the S4 as it passes.
