  1. New members giveth old members their growing chic status of seniority. Rookies/seasoned veterans. Freshman legislators/elder statesmen. The new brings added value to the old. Just think of all of the brave souls who went out on a limb and created this community as the Founding Fathers. And of course Vicki is the Mother of all _______. (Fill a word that speaks to her gread knowledge, wisdom and compassion...gear too!) What do I know, I'm just one of the relatively new little pipsqueaks filling the peanut gallery.
  2. Talked to Craig a new friend, tv producer in Starkville about helping him start a jazz club/resturant in an old historic theater in Columbus, MS. Then picked out some Leonard Cohen self portraits to get framed. Talked to Mark at the Chalet frame store for over an hour. He was a baker and owned the La Petitte Boulangerie Bakery in San Francisco for years and has moved here for his sanity. Interesting unexpected day.
  3. Ok, I'll try it a different way: Anyone have any xrcd compact discs? How do you like them? Do they sound any better than their red book brother? Worth the money differential?
  4. Was sure whether to post here on on music forum but...6 of 1, etc. So what's the dif in SQ and overall value between the Gold cds (mofi, dcc) and xrcd? Just heard about xrcd in ad from exclusive disc. Some interesting stuff there so I was wondering.
  5. Happy Birthday Tyll, Headphone Guru and Philospher King! Do the years even matter in the lifespan of an immortal? With great respect and affection, Barry

Shipped by GoHastings.com thru Amazon. GoHastings told me verbally that even though they are advertising Gold cds, they don't really have them. Huh? Be careful out there. So to feel better I went out and bought a donut. Bluberry.
  7. So last time I looked we were talking vigorously of a certain Capitole that showed up in a certain unstable state. Lot's of people had lot's to say late into last evening. I went to look to see if there was anymore feedback and...for the life o' me I can't find the thread. It's gone, or at least I don't sse it. I looked at my PMs to see maybe it had been moved elsewhere or even removed for some reason that I'm sure would be explained. But no PM eiher. I'm just blind as a bat or hallucinating once again. Can anybody find the "Capitoleizing-yes I did!" thread or explain why it's gone?
  8. Well, interestingly enough, I like it very much as it is although I don't know how exactly it would translate at the smaller size. What do I like well there's a subtle sence of a rich and deep core of light a tunnel of endless light at the center. It draws you in forever. Yet at the same time the light circle pulls you out. Nice double duty. the black is a wonderful ying/yang, day/night contrast and the shape is like seed poods. Life coming from dark mystery. The brown continues to "grow the mystery but moves from the black mystery of the universe to the grounding of the eaath. The color is strong and the points give that overall shape from the inside out a solid continuity. Now the almost tranlusunt out shell is almost like a cloud of glowing energy that the center piece is emerging from. it gives the two shapes a sense of there dimensionality and roundness the shape of the rounded red almost look baloon like that gives the whole as sense ofl ightness and bouyancy. All together the whole piece actually grows in lightness and three dimentionality. Do I like it. Yes. You betcha' Margie. The color and texture is perfect. I would not change a single thing. Thanks my two cents. I do miss ya' Vicki, Wish you had more time for you loyal bro' Barry
  9. and then bam, here comes Todd with a Birthday cake on his head. Happy Birthday! Thanks for giving birth to the genious of Head-case.
  10. Like new West Side Story for $25, Jimmy Smith for $16, Art Pepper/Intensity for $16 and a nice Bill Evans for a thou...didn't see Pee Wee yet but I'll go back and look.
  11. ...Then again, the used Jimmy Smith cd with that great rendition of "A Walk on the Wild Side," was something under $20...Oh, I saw that Oscar Peterson, I'm going to look it up right now. My wife and I watched West Side Story on Sat. night and I was wowed once again...Be back in a moment with the price. ("Money doesn't talk, it swears!" Mr. Zimmerman)
  12. "Reference determines value." Leroi Jones-Blues People My above question doesn't matter. My statement about ME being nuts refers to the FACT that I really don't have a $100 to spend a Jackson Browne's "Late for the Sky," but with the new frame of reference to rarity and scarcity, the importance of source, and the truth of how I really hold that work so precious...I still may impulsively yet with considered reason snatch that puppy right up.
  13. Did you get two rare discs for a total of $110 or did you pay $110 each?
  14. Ya' know as soon as I typed "$100" and saw it in print, I came to the same conclusion Jack did. Ya' gotta' be nuts. There are, however some fine DCC cds out there in a much more sane price bracket that I may consider for first Capitole investment. Anything you wanna' suggest Grawk before I make a tasteless mistake. Actually there's some fine jazz and a very modestly priced old Jimmy Smith cd I just might pick up. $100 on a cd, what was I thinking?
  15. What, you heathen! But JB is really not important because there are soooo many other cds I was looking at comparatively so ,personal taste aside...what about the other questions? (Next you're gonna' dis Lawrence Welk and his bubble machine) Come on now Grawk, and I thought you were groovy.
  16. How does the SQ and overall quality of the DCC Gold series compare to Mobile Fidelity? Does Steve Hoffman oversee the DCC line? I just found a new copy of Jackson Browne's "Late for the Sky" for $100 when the used were going for as much as $200. I don't think I've paid more than $25 for one cd in my life but to inaugurate my new Capitole this might be the CD I would pay such a price if...that sound is really that significant a difference? What's the general comparison between the two premium companies? Between a standard rebook and these gold standards? And as anyone heard or do you have "Late for the Sky?"
  17. Thanks Nate, I'll check further into it, but I'll have something here before I bring in my new audio family.
  18. Do I need both a surge/filter and a power conditioner or is a power conditioner a move up and therefore no longer necessitates the surge/filter too? Also there's a "Power Audio Duet" power conditioner for sale on the Headfye forum. Is that one to consider? Again I really should be cautious down here. Lot's of lightning and such.
  19. Not new. Probably of 1980's origin. how do you determine if your voltage is consistent or not?
  20. Actually that's a concern. Starkville is an old Southern city. Electricity is all "old school" above ground. Lot's of storms, blinking of lights and power outages. So is that "bad power?" Or more "unreliable power?" What are the factors of bad power? I just really don't want to get all this good gear and compromise it with bad power.
  21. So if I've now bought an Audio Aero Capitole SE cd player/pre amp, will have a Balancing Act headphone amp soon enuf(not soon enuf) and ATC 20-2 active speakers...would a power conditioner be a good idea? Is a Power Audio Duet as good one or so, so? Just checkin'
  22. Wow, quite handsome...and Tyll's not bad looking himself. But where be boomana et. all? Oh, are they giving testimonial add copy, I'm guessing. I want more pictures.
  23. Happy Birthday! One day behind Mick (Jagger, that is!)
  24. Nate, can you post that photo right here, right now? And do you have some autographed 8x10's suitable for framing you can like mail out. Seriously, I'd really frame one and put it in my music room. Only an autographed one, of course. Could be worth somethin' someday?
