Nate, I'm still hopeful that they'll work great once installed right (which is other people's experience) that said I'm hoping that long term they switch to steel or titanium for the pods (and send free replacements). They need something with some strength and ductility in that area not brittle ass aluminum. It's just unacceptable that the pod failed rather than force the washers to align! That or they need to send 4 pods with the pedals. They also need to include a cheap claw foot adapter with the pedals. I'm going to return them to the shop today and let them deal with Garmin. I will still take them as I said I would but I'm less than thrilled right now that's for sure. Very glad I didn't end up selling the Quarq as I'll just keep it as a backup at this point. Glad you had a good commute. I had a great ride out of work yesterday and I'll be riding again tomorrow.

So I looked at the pod a bit more today and it was definitely the washers. The Look pedal washer has a larger diameter hole than the garmin one and the garmin one settled unevenly inside the look one and made the loading on the pod uneven and cracked it. The proof is in the fact that the face of the pod is deformed down into the crack and I also observed that the pod looked like it was misaligned relative to the crank. I guess they could argue it was my fault but I was using washers as ordered. My shop has a second set of them on order but I'm not going to ask them to give up revenue so I can get it faster (not that that would be unreasonable) so hopefully Garmin steps up and gets me things faster than two weeks or I guess if my shop wants to give me the replacements then so be it. I don't know when the second set are supposed to arrive. Overall though I'm also not impressed with the pod arrangment as not only did it snap but on both sides they nicked my carbon cranksets when they over-rotated. How hard would it be to include a small piece of rubber to make sure you align it right with the crankset?
-
Well the right pod my vector snapped in half upon installation (with a torque wrench) after I tried to align the pods. The only thing I can think of is that I was using one of their washers and one that was from my previous look pedals and that somehow messed it up. They better send me a free replacement fast.

Happy Birthday!

Quarq moved to the Giant and crow foot adapter purchased. All ready for my new toys. Excited.

Jeff, pedal one leg a bit on one ride to confirm that it is has L/R correct but that's not that suprising. My computrainer says I'm slightly right leg dominant I believe. I did work on it a bit because I found that my right got tired a bit earlier but in the end if you do one-legs enough and can move the load around then you'll be fine. I'm also happy to see that you're working with the 800. Edit: Just spoke to my shop and both my Suunto and Garmin are shipped and should show up very soon. Happy happy. I'm going to head to Autozone on my way home to buy a crowfoot adapter for the shop to grind down.

Well Jet Blue has flights for under $300 but add $50 each way for bike fees and it's adding up. The hotel is pretty cheap though and for a double room. Would work well for splitting rooms. The biggest impediment is the fact that I will have just returned from 10+ days off on the Monday. If this was one week later I think I would be far more enthusiastic.

Well the dates and schedule are up: http://highlandsbikefest.com/index.php Since I can't make NAHBS I am thinking about it.
-
I will look into uploading Suunto once I get mine back next week (I hope)
-
Those look great to me Jeff. I hope that you are trying them out today. The weather is incredible. Looking forward to mine next week. I ran with Meaghan and the kids this morning and it was actually fairly enjoyable. Who would have thought socks would help that much. In other news I am out for NAHBS 2014 as Meaghan has the DC marathon that weekend. Bummed about that.

Awesome ride today with a great group of friends. We'll have to make the DC HC rides a regular thing.
-
Wow that sounds terrible. I hope he recovers.

I really don't understand what is going on as I knew I had seen them on Dura Ace too: http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-gear/cycle-life/Testing-the-New-Garmin-Vector-Pedals.html?page=all This guy was testing them on da9000. All very weird.
-
Yup take your money and back away. They are planning on longer pods but no time frame yet. I can't believe your store scratched your crank though. They can blame garmin if they like but that's on them in my book. I don't know what is going on with regards to the Red compatibility as the pictures on DC Rainmaker are pretty clear that it works fine. We'll see.
-
That sucks man. Get your money back. Sorry that it won't work for you. I would not have thought of that issue. That said their engineers probably should have. Power2Max released a bunch of cheap crank based solutions that look good if you still want a power meter. You can always borrow mine to see if you like having one once my Vectors are here.
-
Even with the spacer washers? You have to add the washers until it doesn't bind.
-
Good luck. I am hoping that I will be able to figure them out. Keeping the Quarq anyway so if they break I have a stopgap
-
Justin wheels(used), seat post, handlebars and stem would easily get you there. As you say though it would run about 2k.
-
I run compact 50/34 with 11-28 and I don't ever feel like Jeff does about it. Only the 3 largest rings are different.
-
Jeff I brought my Calfee I of course have not ridden your bikes but I had a choice between the two on the roads around here I would go Calfee.
-
That looks like a great fit to me if you are happy with the bars where they are. Looking forward to seeing it in person tomorrow.
-
I think they generally do that because a lot of shorter people have longer torsos and shorter legs.
-
Yeah I read that today. Looking into getting a new free hub body for my older mad fiber wheels but not looking promising...

Yeah the crow foot thing blows. I am planning on just torquing the shit out of it with a pedal wrench. It seems like as long as you are over 25lb-ft it seems to be OK.
