No problem Elephas, if you end up disliking the BHSE drop me a PM hahaha.
Now seriously, I don't doubt the ES-1 is sounding superb with your electrostats and you hesitate anything can drive them any better. However that's something most of us have thought at any time of most of our high level amps, and this lasts until something better crosses our ways. Anyway, you'll have a lot easier time selling the BHSE than the ES-1.

Did the first (new pads) afaik did not work, the pain seems to come from the pressure of hd's. I am a prime candidate for tmj teeth grinder, car accident, pinched nerve in neck, tension in my jaw, tendonitis. But I am going to go back to the ENT to again, thanks for our help everyone.
As said above, good quality alcohol is an enjoyable pain killer, but had you a TMJ syndrome and alcohol helped to wear the phones longer, this would just worsen the problem
I know of another mate at the other site who has a TMJ problem and he can't use some headphones for it. The HD600 are one of his favorites sound wise so far, but he can't use them for the pressure on the TMJ
Good luck, keep us posted on your ENT's opinion.

I think I've purchased a pair of Stax O2 mk1, but I've not even paid them and I don't have an adapter or electrostatic amp, so I could well have bought a piano without keyboard and strings

Did Dr tell you what kind of ear infection did you have? Was it middle ear or external ear? Have you visited the Dr after stopping the treatment? Had you at any point your hearing checked?
My wild guess is that either you had an external otitis and the tissues around your ear, while not infected, must be still inflamed, so they're sensitive to pressure, or that your Dr missed the diagnosis and your problem wasn't the ear but the temporal-mandibular joint (TMJ) so as soon as you've started to use phones again, it aches. In any case and despite being myself an otolaryngologist, I wouldn't take my comment as something remotely close to the truth, so you'd better visit your ENT, and have your ears and hearing inspected.
Take care.

For me it changes the spinning direction when I scroll the window, so the gif probably resets, refreshes or whatever.

To reward myself for getting a job after being "semi-retired" for more than a year, I just pre-ordered a pair from Headroom. Tyll gave me a coffee cup at the Orange County Audiophile meet and I owe him.
Actually, I'm hoping that they don't ship before CanJam. Then I'll be able to listen to them and cancel the order if I'm not impressed enough. If I do get them and decide not to keep them, I'll dispose of them through here or HF rather than send them back to Headroom, unless there is an actual problem with the pair I received.
Congratulations for your new job Ken. I hope you like it Oh yes, and the cans too

Yep, the ESWs could be a bit uncomfortable for him. I haven't heard the W5000, but for the reports I'd expect them also bright for his taste. L3000 would be more of his liking hahaha
-
I think the D5000 could be a tad bit bright for him. Moreover the leak some sound, but not as much as Grados or Senns. IMO HD600/650 should be about perfect, being the HD25 the natural closed alternative for him.
For a different flavor, but still musical, nuanced and quite right, what about ESW9 or ESW10? You'd not even need an amp.
Oopps just noticed that jinp had suggested those already

I use [] instead of () to avoid that.

It depends on whether you want SS or tubes and if looking for a certain sound signature or a rather neutral sound.
I don't have the K1000, nor great experience with them, so any suggestion should be taken with a good handful of salt.
-
I've listened to an UR S2K at a friend's place. Nice sounding amp. However it had some noise -clicks and pfffzzzsss from the tubes- issues which made my friend ask for another unit, the second one had the same issues which didn't disappear after some burn-in, so he decided to return them.
I've had at my place with my own speakers other UR amps, the Unico and the 845 based SET monoblocks... I didn't like them very much.

Right. And I don't see too much of a problem with limiting USB input to 44.1/16 anyway. How many folks, even among our enthusiast/early-adopter population, are actually using computer sources for playback of high-rez recordings?
I'm not, but I could once I had the "proper" gear to do so. I'd like to be able to play in my main rig high resolution files that I download from HD Tracks, vinyl rips, etc. Having a "no problems" DAC which I could feed from a laptop wifi connected to the main computer, would be a nice first step.
-
Could be, but AFAIK the new Lavry DAC can do 24/192 over USB without custom drivers, just using the Windows' ones.
Sorry Nate, I hadn't read your reply. If doing that requires a very expensive chip, then the description would be correct. It's a pity, it would be very handy a DAC working over USB to reproduce high resolution files. Doing high sampling rates over SPDIF requires some good sound card to output them from the computer.
-
I don't know either, but I think it's possible the description has mixed the inputs and what the DAC actually does is accepting any signal over USB and only 44/16 over SPDIF/Toslink. Tyll, are you there to clarify, please?

The 717 and the Egmont w/a BH PSU aren't up to the BH level but more then good enough for that crap.

If the remaster goes in the direction of Love and Let it Be, I think I can enjoy that
