    I have one question for the knowledgeable. I have a Gilmore Reference Balanced, which if I understood well is a balanced Dynalo aka Dynamid, with external power supply. The Dynafet is more or less based in the Dynahi/Dynamight so it would have higher power requirements than the Dynalo, however, would my PS be enough to drive the Dynafet? For me it would be great since would allow me to use the same PS for both amps just by swapping the PS umbilical.

    Thanks for the comment Kevin. It'd be great knowing your opinion about its sound over the analogue outputs, either SE or balanced, which is the only use I'd give to it. BTW, does it need to be plugged into a TV screen to decide if you want it to play the SACD or CD layer in a disc, or choosing your preferred DSD output? This is important, I wouldn't have it connected into the TV, so not having to tell the thing to read the 2ch SACD layer every time would be great.

    If you had a collapsed lung you'd be noticing a lack of enough air and some distress, so probably and luckily it's not the case. However a broken rib, depending on how you move and the way it broke, may puncture the pleura and collapse the lung at a later moment, so the need to know how is it. Until that moment, avoid any movements which imply doing force with your arms and also bending yourself. It'd be great that someone applied a bandage on your chest, just in case.

    I'm using a Little Dot Mk III, which, as far as I've understood, should be enough to drive the cans.

    The sibilance, channel inbalance and echoy sound are present with pretty much any amp and headphone jack I've tried the phones with...

    I suspect that the pair I got is faulty, either one of the electrets is failing, the wiring is bad or one of the cross-over circuits is damaged. I just haven't had the time to actually search for the cause of the problems yet.

    I'm afraid your problem is the LDIII I tried one in my place with my source and several of my headphones :palm: I can't understand how that thing can get so much rave consideration at Head-fi. It's not worth even it's low price, and that considering the thing had some NOS tubes installed.

    Thanks for the input mates. I was considering going just SE for myself. My favourite cans are all SE and I'm not planning to recable them anytime soon. Unless the new HD800 sound damn better balanced, I wouldn't be taking much profit from a balanced amp. Hence my interest to know if it'd be a good thing building it with active ground.

    In your opinion, what's the ideal gain setting for this circuit?

    In Madrid, but my friend lives in Galicia, which depending where in Portugal you are, might be closer to you. There's a very active headphones aficionados group over there, they all participate in the Spanish Auriculares.org forum, and we set several meetings along the year. I suppose there will be one when this cold and snow passes. Of course you can come by my place whenever you want, you'll be very welcome ;D

    Hi Manuel, thanks a million for your kind offer ;D. My friend Rodrigo is interested in the project and would build his boards and mine too. The active ground issue interests him, so we would wait until there are more opinions about it, eventually Kevin could provide his too.

    If we decide to go absolute overkill and making two balanced with active ground in SE amps, he'd be building up to 12 boards... Maybe he hasn't thought about it carefully yet :eek: And we have no idea about costs yet :palm:

    Nope, I'm not that skilled as to convert my 3 boards B22 into a non-active ground device for comparison :( I'm no DIYer/tweaker so I take things "as is" but for some tube rolling on the gear allowing it.

    I not even know if the Gilmore Reference balanced has active ground :palm:

    Thanks again for the reply. Well, if there's not a clear benefit, we may leave it without active ground. Much cheaper and easier to build and adjust.

    As soon as my friend says whether he'd be building some boards for himself and me, I'd contact mods to let him having Casino access and would update the "order status" accordingly. Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply Icarium. OK, I'll rephrase my question since "required" isn't the proper word to mean what I wanted to. Are there clear benefits sonically for using active ground in the Dynafet as there are in the B22?

    Considering that a project like this is better to have it made right at the first trial, I'd like to know if it's worth the expense and trouble building it with active ground or not. For this same reason, I'd like to know too if having a power supply for every 2 boards is overkill or just the way to go.

    I'll try again, please read.

    To make a SE Dynafet do you need just 2 boards, or a third one for active ground is required as in the B22?

    If the answer to that question is no, then to make a Dynafet to work in SE and balanced with separate outputs, would it be advisable/preferable making it with 6 boards?

    I'm interested in trying the thing, and I'm convincing a friend to build his and mine, so I wouldn't overload you guys building more boards for me. If he accepts, I think it would be desirable he got Casino access to follow this thread. Would that be possible? He's not a Headcase member yet.

    So for a complete ignorant on the Dynafet's topology, please let me know: To make a 2ch SE amp you need two or three boards like in the B22? To make a "proper" balanced and SE thing you need 4 or 6 boards?

    Moreover, you need 1 S22 for every 2 or 3 boards, or would it be better matching one S22 with a single Dynafet board?

    What should I expect soundwise from a Dynafet? A more tube like sound than the B22, but with the same power capabilities and transparency?

    I have no DIY capabilities, more for the lack of a place where leaving a project as long as needed to finish it than anything else, but also lacking the equipment for the adjustments and measurements, which is important. However I might participate if someone else builds the thing for me. Perhaps a friend of mine is interested, I can ask him, but I'd be thankful if someone having used a Dynafet before posted his impressions.
