Silver Interconnects

Featured Replies

Hello

I'd like to try out some good silver interconnects. Please tell me what i should be looking at.. right now i have my eyes on the moon audio silver dragon.

Look for silver cables with dead soft annealed silver. Otherwize the cables is going to be harsher then comparable copper cables. If you settle for anything less, at first you'll think 'wow theres no much detail and clarity in my system', then a month later you won't even want to listen to your system and not realize why. ^^

Biggie.

Do we know that silver sounds any harsher than copper at the same gauge, winding/geometry, and purity level? I never really tried, just curious.

I think the traits are largely due to purity and gauge size. 18awg silver really seems to be the sweet spot in terms of getting rid of the harshness and lack of body but without sacrificing the detail and clarity. Copper I really like a nice pure copper in the 20-23 gauge realm as it sounds a bit cleaner with little to no harshness to it.

Homegrown Audio sells nice silver wire though you will pay a premium for it as it has teflon extruded over it rather then simply threading your own.

I would recommend DIY as it really is quite simple and ultimately rewarding. RCA cables are some of the easiest to make and with silver you don't want to bother with sleeving because then you wont get to enjoy the beauty of them ;)
