February 1, 20179 yr comment_753910 I was going to build a balanced isolation transformer. But I had difficult to choose form either EI or toroid. February 1, 20179 yr comment_753917 all the equi=tech are torroids torroids will have less magnetic flux leakage, but will have a turn on thump probably easier to find the EI versions surplus on ebay for far less than you can have one made for. Report

EI flux is directional, so often easier to avoid. And they have lower bandwidth meaning they act as noise filters. Report
February 2, 20179 yr comment_753979 That is true, but lower bandwidth is a result of greater leakage inductance, which means more radiated interference. It is not clear that there is a perfect choice - toroid or EI (or R-core) there are compromises with all of them in different areas. Report
