which solid state amp should i go for? the 717 or the KGSS? i know a stock kgss is 1.5k but i don't know how much does the 717 cost...

I really like mine with KGSS, but haven't really tried them with 717.

IIRC, a new 717 imported from Japan will costs you about $1000 to $1200.

Another thing - if going the Stax route, you may want to wait a bit as they are/may doing minor updates to their amps. They just updated 006t to 006tA (006tII out of Japan) and 007t is scheduled to be updated soon. It wouldn't surprise me to see them update 717 as well relatively soon, though I have no information on that as of yet.

I have a Gallardo for an extended weekend soon. Joining a supercar club was a great thing to do.

Haven't tried a KGSS but I prefer the 717 to the 007t for general PC use. Mainly because it's less compromised in response, whereas I think the 'flavour' of the 007t actually robs the O2 of some of it's potential impact. I change the flavour through EQ (Algorithmix PEQ, both Orange and Red DirectX plugin used with j.River Media Center) on the PC.
