My new bird bath

Featured Replies

So i have this 300mhz old cryomagnet that i can't give away, and otherwise really don't know what to do with it.

So i've turned the bottom of it into a bird bath.

here is the bird bath, on its way home today

the space blanket that wrapped the insides

and because i just can't help myself

the 3 dewars still together

on their way apart

some extraneous parts

will post a picture later once i get it home :D

I hope none of your birds have a steel plate in its head! I keep thinking about the Road Runner and the iron pellets in his Acme Bird Seed...

You do eventually do stuff with work right? :D

wazzat? sorry, i was just busy twiddling my thumbs and wasn't listening over here

You have no idea how much work i actually do. At least the jobs of 3 people.

NMR, Xray and Mass Spec. But when i see an opportunity to do something

silly and off the wall, well...

This was all that would fit in the trunk of my car in one trip, the legs will come

home tomorrow...

But there really is method to my madness. In addition to keeping the birds and squirrels happy.

The superconducting wire in there is even at room temperature actually lower in impedance than

silver wire of the same diameter. Plus its very flexible, and has a wonderful ceramic like insulating

coat. So its going to be absolutely wonderful for some really nifty headphone cables. And there

is about 2 miles of wire on that core, once i saw the final dewar open...

Wow, sounds awesome. >:D

Kevin, if you're game, I'd gladly pay the shipping for some loops of that! I can then make some ICs and even recable this AKG81DJ here!

Wow that's awesome. Wonder what kind of sound they'll have.

Haha! Well done.

Are you going to wind that wire in a controlled-impedance fashion...? do you have some sort of twisted pair twister gadget?

Gorgeous pictures... that Kodak really likes light.

If you have trouble with birds too heavy for that birdbath, you should call the Air Force's Wayward Helicopter Hotline.
