August 15, 200916 yr A roommate of mine died a few years ago and everyone his family has taken all that they want to remember him by and while cleaning out the garage I found this guitar. I contacted his parents and they said that I could keep it for cleaning out all of his stuff. Hofner made a ton of hollow bodied electric guitars and I can't find this specific model. The only lettering I can find is Hofn and 1946, Berlin. The back has the serial number nv0550 andd the date 2-10-49. can you guys help me out?
August 16, 200916 yr Author I finally found it. It's a verythin model acoustic-electric hybrid. I really like the way it sound unplugged. Now if I could play anything but smoke on the water.
August 16, 200916 yr Author I just found that it's the model the beatles used back in 62 when they were crafting their sound. My ex roommate was a huge fan of the beatles so that makes sense why he would spend a outlandish amount of money on an antique guitar.
August 16, 200916 yr Have you tried it on an amp yet? If the pick ups are fine, I bet it must sound wonderfully vintage.
August 16, 200916 yr Author yeah and it sounds good. According to a tag on the case, it was worked on about 4 years ago to fix some internal wiring so hopefully it will last a few years under my brutal care.
August 16, 200916 yr Sure it will, I hope so. Just in case, start looking for a proficient luthier in your area. He can be very helpful to align the bridge, setting the action, giving hints to preserve it, and providing service if needed. Also he could give you an estimation of its value. Maybe it's worth enough to have it properly insured. I'm quite sure it is
August 16, 200916 yr Author thanks for the advice, coincidentally I personally know a luthier from when I played the cello many years ago. I haven't talked to her in about a half a year but I'm sure that I can invite her to an innocent dinner and ambush her with the guitar. Insuring it is also a great idea. I should do that, and get a proper hard shell case.
August 16, 200916 yr The case doesn't look that bad in the pics, however one fitting the guitar's shape would provide better crash protection. Enjoy it, I'm sure your mate had liked that
August 16, 200916 yr Author I actually have a 50's model integrated tube guitar amp. it was my father's from when he was a kind in a country band. It's currently in Illinois right now but I'll bring it back on my next visit home.
August 16, 200916 yr sure, i'll just get into another bike accident to raise the money. no pain no gain
August 16, 200916 yr Author Ha, I'm glad your found it funny, I was a little worried that I had gone too far.
August 16, 200916 yr too far doesn't exist at Head Case. Now if you excuse me I have some black dildos to go wash off in the sink after I take a piss.
August 17, 200916 yr EDIT: by the way, my pee sink thread was lock, which surprised me. That's because you accidentally peed in the cornflakes instead of the sink.
