December 3, 201114 yr Paul Motian passed away a week ago and Fresh Air had a nice tribute/older interview that hit upon Bill Evans, Monk, and Keith Jarrett. Worth a listen. "I'm not a showpiece drummer. ... I feel like I'm an accompanist. It's my sort of thing to make the other people sound good, as good as they can be. I feel like I should accompany them, and I should accompany the sound that I am hearing and make it the best that I can — that I can do." Edited December 3, 201114 yr by blessingx
December 3, 201114 yr Thanks for the link, Ric. This was sad news and I was jealous that JP just saw him recently. RIP PM
December 4, 201114 yr Sad to see him go this is a great reminder to go out and see the jazz legends. He was great when I saw him a few years ago at the Vanguard and seemed years younger than his age when behind the drum kit.
December 4, 201114 yr Bummer! I didn't know he died. Saw him a few years back myself and he never missed a beat. Great point about trying to get out and see the greats jp.
