Guzzi, as I mentioned I couldn't defend multiple accounts, although I think that matters less until you actually use them in some unethical way. Not to sound defensive, but since having multiple accounts was all that was mentioned in this thread, if I came off as trivializing other unmentioned/unknown activities, I apologize for them and being in the dark here (been cruising HF much less lately). I appreciate the link and now that I've read the first ten pages of that thread I certainly see the cause for concern. While it had more than a bit of the "For Sale Forum is falling apart" gang-banging irrespective of the actual cases and I think Wad was upfront in his posted email (and of course my previously very positive listed experiences), if a couple of those actions were actually taken on bidding prices, certainly public response and warnings should be made. EDIT: And slwiser that is the same model Wad had. Pipes and SE (one volume knob). Sounded pretty good when I heard it with the O2 (though to be honest I still can't get over the O2s politeness even with it), but my listen was probably less then ten minutes with music I was unfamiliar with so I can't say much about how it compares to other electrostatic amps in the range or any more detail than I was impressed.

I'll let you know, once you let me know why you'd want to read that sentence smiley aside? As for the other allegations, can someone point me to their origs? I'm afraid I missed that thread and a search comes up empty.

And again IF this is Waddragon I know for a fact he's sold some items below market too, so its not all one-sided and certainly this KGSS with upgrades price doesn't seem outrageous either. If it's multiple accounts I can't defend the cause of that, but as far as I'm concerned it's just a person interested in audio that while he has an interest-free student CC wants to try all the top phones until the interest kicks in. I don't doubt if he loses $100 on a sale (quick sales work both ways) he tries to make it up on another, but I've been guilty of this too. I've had several conversations with Waddragon (phone/pm) and visited him three times and he's even lent me equipment, including recently the O2, so I'm a fan and when it comes right down to it, he's probably one of the half dozen most generous members I've met over the years through this hobby. If there's any moral issue here, it's he should give equipment a little more time before passing judgment. I know he bought, sold, then re-bought a W5000 in a short period of time, and I really doubt he made any profit on those transactions.

And Wad has the upgrade, though I don't know if it's the same one. He had a couple HPs too. I've bought a W5K and srm-007t from him and sold him my Ed.9, great transactions all around. He tends to turn over equipment pretty rapidly as he's a bit transportation limited (to test) and seems to make up his mind quite quickly (I think a negative Ed.9 review was posted by the time I drove back to SF). Course not sure if this is him.

On the drive front I've already got a 500GB NAS which isn't in danger of being maxed anytime soon (with music/films/books I tend to not focus with too vast a library and delete/sell as I acquire). So that's covered. The BlacX looks cool though and the name is right. And a San Mateo comparison would be great. I appreciate the suggestions so far. With being tethered to a computer has anyone ever do a comparison between the Duet and the Pico as a source?

I'm contemplating picking up a Transporter (which I can get a discount on), but would consider other options up to $1400 (to then use with a Squeezebox). All my music is streamed and it would be to the Extreme Platinum and/or srm-007t in my sig. Any other DACs you would recommend? Had the DA10 recently, and while I liked its signature, looking for something new.

Just picked up the Guilty: 30 Years of Randy Newman box set.

I'm willing to guess the majority of music you listen to was not recorded live, so why use that as the only criteria? Why not open it beyond the Lambdas?
-
Monkey, I'll second what Voltron said concerning choosing an amp upgrade over the DAC. In fact since shifting most of my time to electrostatics I've downgraded my source. At least the Pros (Sigs should be here any day), the srm-007t was a big upgrade over the srm-1/mk2 pro, and from what Voltron says the GES may even be more so. A little warmth and a lot of body are the most obvious 'upgrades.' Basically I loved the srm-1/mk2 for some music, but just didn't do it for me with rock and some jazz. Once the 007t entered the picture that reservation went away.

Fleetwood Mac and America were my Eagles, taking me back to my childhood. My favorite Eagles stat is a poll quite some time ago placed them as the most influential band on the Southern California Punk scene. It gave them someone to hate. There may be no X without the Eagles.

... and one more without O2s. I've had a pair for a few weeks and tried to like them like no phones in years. A tad too polite for me with every amp/source I've heard (but still haven't had the BH opportunity). So I've decided to stop at the Lambdas. Sigs coming to compare to the Pros. Any ideas what to expect besides a little more detail and a little less musicality? And I still grab the 5nb/Golds often when I want a little Grado electrostatic moment. Nothing wrong with budget Stax.

Also GEMM. And of course Amoeba if you're in the right city.

Would love to heard more specifics on their construction... or sign-up as a beta tester.

Tango: Zero Hour would probably be in my desert island 10 CD collection. It's the only I've kept around though. Wish I still had Mar

Since you mentioned ALAC, I'm assuming you're using iTunes to play or at least organize your files? Keep in mind you have Artist, Album Artist, Composer, Grouping and the Comment field to work with. They just aren't all showing by default. You could use Album Artist to keep your album concept (why it was created), and still use Artist or Composer for Composer or Conductor. Then use the other (or Grouping or Comment) for the other. Sort or find as necessary. Keep in mind if you have an iPod all fields may not be usable to sort there. The above mentioned Applescripts can be used to reshuffle everything to keep it consistant.
-
A lot depends on your output display. For instance the Squeezebox displays Artist and Album Artist so that can be used, or you may want to avoid. One suggestion if you're on OS X, is to use Doug's Applescripts to swap tag info around, delete, add, etc. I sometimes move artist info behind song title if I want to reference it, but want the artist tag for composer, 'various artists', etc.

As I mentioned on that other site, I'm in. Thanks again for the work JP.

tkam, Voltron made reference to a few tests I've done recently. Although in no way did I consider it the best DAC of the bunch, at least with the STAX srm-007t, surprisingly the little Pico woke up the sr-007 the most. That may be because of a little more etch & dynamic sound v. the Lavry or Squeezebox, or simply higher output near max (and high gain), but since you already have a Pico, have you tried to see what synergy is there with the KGSS and O2? In the end Grawk may still put out a hit on you, but at least with my above combo the better DAC didn't produce the better sound. STAX seems sometimes funny creatures.

I just got a Unicomp SpaceSaver (over Customizer because of size) keyboard today. I doubt it's going to get me to type faster, but because it's buckling springs loudly click, it sounds like I'm typing faster! You may want to consider for appearances sake.

I gave it a try for a week, but eventually reverted back. Really should have given it a few weeks, but I rarely have the time, plus data on Dvoraks advantages sometimes comes under fire. More recently, I've tried Matias' half-keyboard so I could keep one hand on keyboard and one on mouse at all times. That was a much easier transition, but in the end I'm running back and forth on up to four keyboards daily, so just not worth it. I should have picked up a 508 though and typed single-handed when I could.

I picked up their recent Mosaic Select Boogie Woogie and Blue Piano. Because of the age of the recordings its a little difficult to discuss SQ, but the selections are very nice. You probably know, but some of their collections have short runs. I think this one was 5,000 copies.

Calling all Mac Experts

I became a convert not long ago after 19 years in Windows. There are a lot of great apps out there, some of which have been chronicled in a certain other sites Appleland thread. Two quickies that I can't think of similar quality apps in Windows are: Delicious Library a free-form DB like DEVONthink Pro The latter has some competition in more simple apps like Yojimbo and SOHO Notes, but the most interesting may be the web-based Evernote (also Windows and browser versions) which is progressing quickly. It's free at least while in beta. -
Well Dusty, I did defend myself a bit there from your last response, but am sincerely curious what is new, and tried to point out what I thought was not, leading up to the sudden raise in need of spoiler prevention. Which as you mentioned in probably mostly due to immediate borderless internet discussion (no relationship to when show came to town and newspaper reviews in decades of VHS - or waiting for flicks to come on cable or the networks - could be more easily avoided). I guess I rarely see any real damage, but as I mentioned I'm blind to a lot of this because of what I drift towards watching. My experiences have been on the opposite side - for the record when discussing what a film is about (usually the directors/screenwriters intentions), not the actions which take place in the film. You can feel the fear though is the former will inherently end up in the latter (which is not the case). And thus stopping a larger in-depth discussion. But those experiences are personal, usually when talking in person, and besides the point of the larger discussion. I brought in a little baggage and sorry about that. I'm still a little confused by how quickly people label something 'spoilers' and to a much smaller respect how we survived without the protection so long (even a few years ago and yes I'm on several film boards), but didn't mean to take this to left field in a feature announcement. Sorry about that. "Practically all films these days have a 'reveal' that doesn't survive multiple viewings." You my be right and another cause why protection is suddenly important. As reveals are far from new, if it's a bigger deal now, that may mean there's less of something else there - a depressing proposition.
