  1. Amnesty International’s report on Israel/Occupied Palestinian Territory “This report documents Israel’s actions during its offensive on the occupied Gaza Strip from 7 October 2023. It examines the killing of civilians, damage to and destruction of civilian infrastructure, forcible displacement, the obstruction or denial of life-saving goods and humanitarian aid, and the restriction of power supplies. It analyses Israel’s intent through this pattern of conduct and statements by Israeli decision-makers. It concludes that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.” https://www.amnesty.org/en/documents/mde15/8668/2024/en/ https://www.amnesty.org/en/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/MDE1586682024ENGLISH.pdf
  2. Thanks much. I actually picked it up yesterday, along with three Michelangelo Antonioni films (they'll probably never release a Blu-ray box set at this point), but that makes me feel even better (was still debating on the Sony UBP-X800M2 and its SACD support). Now to plug it into my old 1080 TV. Kinda strange it dropped another $50 from Friday.

  4. So you’re thinking the Leica Q3 Monochrom? Modern P&S is tough as you hint. Maybe one of the previous Sony RX100 versions? The Ricoh GRs go way back. For older a Canon G9/G10 or Powershot SD1000? In between a Nikon Coolpix A? And of course the Fuji X100 goes generations back. How large would she likely carry? How frustrated would she likely get with old AF? Is she chasing CCD sensors or anything? Need WiFi? Maybe glance through the Snappiness and One Month Two cameras (both mentioned in last few articles on the subject) YouTube channels. They’re really driving which models are currently in. P&Ss aren’t my focus, but I do have a Canon G2 you’re welcome to. It’s just the camera and I’m not sure 4MP is where I’d start in 2024, but PM if interested. EDIT: Honestly, those are pretty practical, uninspiring choices too. Let us know if you’re looking for exotic, difficult to process, ones.
  5. Happy Thanksgiving and hope everyone is having a great day. I’m thankful for DC fast charging on Thanksgiving trips.
  6. Thanks all of you. It seems unless you go up to $1K+ (that UB9000, Magnetar Oppo clone, etc.) it really comes down to the Panny UB820 or Sony X800M2. Unless Sony's better build quality or additional audio support like SACDs are the goals, everyone is leaning Panasonic for auto-Dolby Vision and more reliable 4K playback. And Black Friday (everyday!) sales bring them closer together in price. If anyone has any thoughts on I having that all wrong please let me know. I hereby swear I have zero interest collecting Blu-rays (I'm saying this as much for myself as to you), but will pick up career box sets of favorite directors or films missing from streaming. Plus I have a bunch of old Criterion DVDs* and no way to play them. Now to see as we approach Xmas and my birthday if my family has caught on to all the not exactly subtle hints about that Akio Jissoji set. *
  7. Hope it's a really good pour.
  8. Vintage Digicams Aren’t Just a Fad. They’re an Artistic Statement In a time when AI-powered imaging software tweaks and smooths every digital photo to appear perfect, some photographers are embracing the quirky flaws of vintage digital cameras. https://www.wired.com/story/vintage-digicams-artistic-photos/
  9. Amyl and the Sniffers’ Cartoon Darkness I won’t link an example song here, but Jerkin’ On Your Squirter is fun.
  10. Everyone knows RadioLab. Their delivery can get really annoying, but this one on the two times the Electoral College was almost abolished was good. https://radiolab.org/podcast/the-unpopular-vote
  11. Thanks. I'll likely never use gaming side though (last system was ColecoVision). Thanks for the breakdown. The Oppo is like the Rio Karma of Blu-ray players, right?
  12. So I'm lookin' for a Blu-ray player with 4K playback in 2024. I'm kind of afraid to ask , but anyone fond of a 4K player that I should take a look at? The leading contender seems to be the Panasonic DP-UB820-K (aka "The UB820").
  13. Definitely moments you’re reminded everyone involved with this documentary is less intelligent than its subject, but still a decent survey and worth a watch - Ken Burn’s Leonardo da Vinci. Just be aware, like most Burn’s work, the narrative is a bit simplified.
  14. All I know is Idina Menzel sang at work a month ago and co-workers came into the office this week in Wicked costumes like it's Halloween 2.0. Getting confusing adult Frozen vibes all around.
  15. The final season of Somebody Somewhere. I really love this show.
  16. And just like that it seems (from lite documentation, but also resolution) that Silkypix does raw process both pixel types. And one version back is only $32. I can't believe I'm going to recommend Silkypix.
  17. The Substance. Unbelievably Megalopolis may have competition. Okay, I know others enjoyed and there was some fun nudity, but why did everything have to be so obvious? Made it almost half way.
  18. You’re not alone.
  19. Another photofair today. Picked up an old aluminum case and a Revolution Revisited Kim Komenich photobook, but also a body I’ll probably never run a roll through, however I’ve been a sucker for its look since first seen years ago. $20 for an Argus C3 self piece isn’t bad, right?

  21. Did anyone think Taylor actually won that?
  22. Watching Tyson v. Social Media Guy thingy.
