1. slot loading increases bass, attenuates treble and widens the dispersion by increasing diffraction. all good things when playing fullrange speakers without any crossovers... if done right. are they closed or vented? BLH maybe?
2. did it come with the "Bass conture module"? seems a bit counter intuitive to try and make a "pure" speaker only to use EQ and mess up the dispersion by using two fullrange drivers. also, are the drivers "front slot loaded" or are the 6,25" drivers just that narrow? so difficult to judge scale from photos
3. on a quest to make all kinds of weird japanese food. first some okonomiyaki and some tamago kake gohan with natto. both looked wierd but tasted awsome! perfect match with some homebrewed sake yeast beer
4. they are designed to have controlled directivity, similar to linkwitz newest design and the Nao note speakers. the only problem with controlled directivity open baffle speakers are the ugly baffles, so it took a lot of thinking and prototyping to make these somewhat good looking also, RAAL tweeters sound amazing!
5. is posting pictures of your own speakers frowned upon in this thread?
6. the glue i used to repair my 63's didn't last very long before it lost its tension, so the els's are back in the closet awaiting repairs i built some speakers using the dipole woofer towers and L.cao alnico fullrangers, to listen to while i figure out how to repair the quads. of course, since i no longer use quad speakers, i have to make up by using a pair of quad amplifiers
7. a pair of visaton b200 some mdf a bunch of coils and stuff and Halo ODST, because it was cheap
8. i wonder how much difference there really is in the midrange of the 57 compared to the 63. i need to find a local pair and give them a listen. what i do know for sure though, is that relieving the 63 of the bass frequencies made them sound a whole lot better! the midrange and treble sounds a lot crispier and clearer then before. im sure you could fit a pair of 10" woofers, gradient sw57 style, underneath the esl57. perhaps use similar woofers as the linkwitz orion and cross over using minidsp?
9. i finally finished the dipole woofers for my ESL 63! after living with the eminence alpha 15a for a while i decided to go with lower Q woofers, as the alpha felt slightly "loose" at times. i ended up using some local (probably produced by eminence) woofers as they had powerful magnets, high sensitivity, cast aluminium baskets and a Q of 0,4. they were also really cheap, compared to the build quality im using a rotel rb1510 to drive the woofers; one of the best audio bargains available right now. sounds pretty darn good
10. they are about 80cm from the back wall, which works quite good in my opinion; can't hear any big difference when pulling them further out. as for room treatment, i quite like the sound of this room as it is! i have tried them in many different rooms, and none sound as good as this one, so i decided room treatments "weren't really needed" since my last post i have pulled the speakers closer together, and placed the woofers on the outside on top of some rickety boxes to have them at the same height as the quads. works quite a lot better then before, though i should probably look for some better stands
11. emminence alpha 15A crossed over using miniDSP. just got the miniDSP in the mail today, so i'm still experimenting, but early results are promising. the emminence drivers aren't exactly high end, but they were free, so i'm not complaining

13. i havent listened to it yet as i still need a coax cable; but if i dont like it, its probably not going to be hard to resell, as AN seems to be pretty popular around these parts. and the kenwood is indeed pretty luxurious.
14. I "needed" a new dac, so it was either an affordable old dac, or one of the new FOTM budget dacs. the blackgates and sonicap platinums in this one made the choice a bit easier... and its fairly heavy, so it's got to be good
15. i found some money in my wallet and decided to spend them i never liked the stock 200uf cap, so i have been running my esl63 without any input caps. i decided to go for 100uf, to keep the slightly forward midrange, and replaced the cheap 1r5 resistor with a wirewound one. to keep things short; more bass, crisper treble, same sweet midrange and a soundstage as deep as space itself! best bang for the buck upgrade ever!
16. just a small update on my quad adventures. i was considering making new steel frames for my quads, seeing as the black "tombstone" look isn't exactly easy on the eyes. unfortunately though, i'm pretty broke, so i decided to just sand down the previously painted wooden parts, hoping it would make them less ugly. ended up way better then i expected, feels almost like getting a new pair of speakers now i just need to sand down the lower "plank" and get hold of some gray speaker cloth.
17. it was mostly structural mods. hundreds of small wooden bracers had been glued between the panels themselves, and the inner frame had been glued to the outer frame via plastic bracers. this is the best picture i have of the wooden bracers the result was one incredibly stiff structure, but the wooden bracers had to be removed when refurbishing the panesls, and it was a huge PITA i think i'm going to do something similar again once the reliability of the refurbed panels has been confirmed, as the structure now feel slightly wobbly. he had also ripped out the protective grille and dustcover; not the best idea if reliability is a concern, but it sounds pretty good
18. did someone mention squealing quads? i had two of those! the original owner of my pair bought his in 89, after finding out he had only one year left to live, so he modded the heck out of them when he had the chance i bought them from his friend last year (who didnt know what they were, and had kept them in his attic), they looked like new but 19 years of storage had taken their toll, as they soon started to squeal like mad! it turned out the glue had started to fail, and half the panels had insufficient tension, so i ended up buying new mylar and coating from MTaudio in sweden. tensioning the mylar using a fish weight and gaffa tape was hard work, but quite satisfying, and it ended up saving me quite a lot of pesetas, as in the end, all but two panels had to be restored i do love them though, and they are by far the best speakers i have heard, even though i mostly listen to badly recorded disco albums they do sound a lot better when raised from the ground, and in my experience they sound best raised around 35-40 cm. i havent got an up to date photo of my current ghetto stands, but i do have a picture of the equally ghetto stands i used when i first got them one thing i have noticed is that they sound completely different with different amps, so amp rolling is highly encouraged so far i have tried mine with a thule ia150b (150w SS, not a good match) a sumo andromeda 1 (200w SS, fast and punchy, but a bit to unforgiving when it comes to bad recordings) and my current setup; a chinese Music Angel XDSE KT88 amp (75w) which so far seems to have the perfect compromise with a lush midrange, clear treble and powerfull, if somewhat mushy bass.
