Oh, and also, for what it's worth, none of the boxes will be able to be bus-powered anymore. I know this is a LIO-8 thread, which was never bus-powered. But the ULN2 was...or...still is until they do the upgrade.

That was the implication. I think they'd have to, since the boxes don't/can't really do anything you don't explicitly tell them to do.

Long time lurker here w/a little info, if anybody hasn't already read. MH are not going with thunderbolt or USB3 at this point. Just plain ol' USB 2.0. The reasoning seems to be stability and universality. Of all of these, only USB2.0 is class compliant, so all the interfaces will now work not only w/Macs but also Windows and iOS devices and whatever else works with USB class compliant stuff. There's also a whole bunch of new stuff (or really improvements over the OLD stuff) having to do with how the host will see multiple MH devices if they are present, and how they connect to one another. Also, evidently this is going to free up a TON of resources on the box for the DSP effects section. (i.e. no more choking the memory with long delays, more instances of DSP plugins running simultaneously, etc.) I'm mostly hoping that they improve the MIO Console software, which is (in my opinion) a little too menu-divey for my tastes. And the DSP effect params are not really MIDI controllable, so you're forced to click-click-click to get to anything. Since they're bragging about the iOS connectivity, I'd have to assume they're going to do something with the software in that direction, but who knows what. Anyway, that's a little more on this stuff, in case you all hadn't read it elsewhere.

This just reminded me that I had been meaning to (finally!) read these. Just started Pattern Recognition. Holy living crap. Incredible. I had only read...erm...Virtual Light before, I think. (Not bad certainly, but not one I'll likely reread.) But Pattern Recognition...wow.

There were supposed to be 2 more, but he turned it into 3, exactly. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if it then turned into 4. He seems reasonably spry, but at the rate he writes, I'm really hoping he just makes it to the end. (Heh, how nice of me. I'm hoping he gets ME what I want before he dies.) Yeah, postjack, Goodkind, Tad Williams, there are a whole bunch of INCREDIBLY famous fantasy guys who I just can't read. Feels like they're making it up as they go, as opposed to creating realistic characters in a believable world. I'll have to check out Abercrombie. Don't know anything of his. It's always such a gift when you find a decent fantasy author. There are so few that I love. Anywhere in particular that I should start, or does it matter? Also, I kind of like David Gemmell. He's an interesting writer. A little thinner than, say, Martin. It's a little more that you're reading a fun adventure, rather than lit-ruh-churr, certainly. But he's a fun writer.

I'm mostly a lurker here, but I had to comment on this one: If you like fantasy at all, do yourself a huge favor and read George R. R. Martin's "Song of Ice & Fire" series. "Game of Thrones" is the first. Holy crap. Great writer, complex characters, treats you like an intelligent adult. Great. And he really knows how to go fairly light on the fantastical stuff, so it actually hits hard when he brings it in. (It's going to be an HBO series in 2011, they're shooting now.) One warning -- he is a very, very slow writer. There are 4 books out, and 3 yet to come. It's been I think 5 years since the last one.

Sir Monkey, you're on the list for the P1u loaner program, are you not? I'd be very interested to hear how the two sound together. Especially with the JH13s (he said calmly as his bank account attempted to take its own life.) I've been interested in the PWD since I started reading about the Bridge music server add-on thingie. If they ever work out all the gremlins, that sounds like it could be a very sweet setup. On the PSAudio forums, their main guy (Paul, is it?) said that Apple Lossless files sounded significantly worse than WAV files in his test unit. I'd hope that is just a software/decoding issue that they can fix without too much insanity.

There was supposedly a "badass" hulu app for the iphone which, presumably, would have to work on this thing. It was announced last April, but never came out. Outside on pavement or concrete (or dirt/gravel at the side of the road sometimes, but no major trailrunning.) I haven't lifted weights in them, but I can tell you that they don't slip and slide that I've seen (if that's your concern.)

I only run in my KSO's -- rest of the time I just wear normal shoes. I can definitely say that it makes a difference (for me) even though it's not all the time. I used to get a lot of pain in my Achilles tendon, and don't anymore. Also, just wearing them some of the time has changed my stride, and my awareness of how I walk and stand. Of course, it has also made me more aware of how uncomfortable my regular shoes are a lot of the time. I wish I could wear them more of the time but I don't think the split toes would feel comfortable for an all-day kind of thing. There's another company called "Terra Plana" that does barefoot-style shoes that don't split out the toes that I'm considering trying out for when I'm at work. (Once my bank account recovers from the holidays and the new JH13s, that is.)

Oh cool, that sort of smoky grey is exactly what I was hoping trans-black was going to look like. Thanks for pointing me towards your pic -- I've read through this entire thread, so the truth is that that pic might very well be where I got the idea to go with that color in the first place. Erm...lack of color, that is...I think.

Aaaaaand that hundred bucks off somehow did it for me. Just ordered a pair, translucent black. "At my command...unleash the audiologist."
