I'm selling my NAD redbook player, but have been interested in one of the Oppo universals for a while just to give SACD a shot. However, I know nothing really about SACD. Is it all hi rez? Will there be a noticeable difference in a two-channel headphone rig? And, perhaps most importantly, do SACD players play nice with standalone DACses? Educate The Monkey.

With respect to service manuals, I have encountered two manufacturers recently that are not necessarily eager to share such things. Dodson and TEAC. TEAC sent the service manual, but it is not necessarily as complete as one would like. Dodson (Silversmith Audio) won't share it schematics at all. And I agree that is annoying.

You'll have to bear with us. We're often drunk. Now do you think it possible that they could be stamping 1704k on an entirely different chip? Do you have much experience with counterfeits from Asia? It sounds like you know a lot. Unfortunately, like 'stretch, I am an ignoramus. My personal work experience with counterfeits in China is limited only to mass-manufacturing of pharmaceuticals/OTC drugs and, to a lesser extent, consumer goods. But I do know a fair amount about Chinese petrochemical companies and their plants. I could swap funny stories about those all day long.

I guess USB and Hi Res would really be the only things. It's nice they haven't messed with it; it's a nice DAC.

I think it's odd that Electrocompaniet has not updated the ECD-1.

It's enough to make a man want a DAC with a phono stage.
