How long 'til the 'fi is operating normally again?
kevin gilmore replied to Iron_Dreamer's topic in Off Topic
Have you seen the price on hard drives lately?? No one in their right mind would ever wipe a server when they can throw in a brand new drive or set of drives at $100 each. I'll quit now, i've picked on jude enough for today. -

When they find out the truth (and they will) they will not be forgiving at all. Jude has a lawyer at his becon call (and not that idiot in florida either), Bet that lawyer is gonna be busy real soon. -

It is possible that jude actually will have learned something from this experience. Next time he won't be caught with his pants down around his ankles. So if we all rub it in REAL GOOD then he will do it right from now on. Fat chance. -

If i get another email or phone call from jude, hell will certainly have frozen over. I expect that when head-fi comes back i will be banned forever, even though it is specifically against judes policy which states that what happens outside of head-fi is none of his business. -

Our first such outage in almost 10 years in business, we apologize for the inconvenience. We are at the datacenter now, performing repairs and maintenance, and expect to have service restored very soon. -

I've been debating whether or not i should post this, figured why the hell not. How fucked is jude. Real mother fucking fucked. His real business where he makes all of his real money was also tied into that one box, and all of his corporate customers in particular for example http://www.whatuseek.com http://www.changealarm.com http://www.sitelevel.com are also down. This is not just a head-fi thing, its jude's core business. If he does not get that raid set back up, he might as well plan on flipping burgers at McDonalds for the rest of his life. -
A KGSS front end and a grid drive tube output section. Significantly less complicated than the BH. Smaller tubes and can be built in a much smaller box.

I just don't understand why jude hates head-case so much

Why are daily backups too much to expect. If you have a real database, and do incrementals every nite the backup is highly efficient and very fast. A internal network between the backup storage device and the main storage device at gigabit speeds would easily do full backups in an hour, and incrementals in a few minutes. This is standard stuff. Any idiot could do it.
-
If jude is going to go that far back, he might as well start fresh. In addition that database was a few versions old for the current vbulletin software, so it could be upgrade city, and lots and lots of additional bugs all over the place. Plus all the features and changes since then. No matter what jude does, unless he can get the database fixed, there are going to be lots of unhappy people. Then that effects all his user counts, his page rankings, all sorts of stuff. Ugly, really Ugly. No backups in a year. What a maroon.

What's up with dynafet boards these days?
kevin gilmore replied to Icarium's topic in Do It Yourself
Yes it will, without any additional compensation, i have one running at a gain of 4 now. You can certainly build it with 2 devices per channel. But i like the sound of the renasys fets over the international rectifier versions, and they are not as strong, so you really should do 4 of them. There are 4 different versions of the boards, and when i'm sure of the pinout of the lsj109 there will be 4 new versions. Build what ever turns your crank. Then again compaired to the toy output transistors on the (well you know) you could probably just build it with one set of output transistors. But where is the fun in that. Need to be able to drive k1000's to painfully loud levels. -

Nope. If you want to do that, find a raptor with the original power supply. Cooks eggs just fine. -

I'm waiting for linear systems to get their butt in gear and actually deliver on lsk109's. Then the floodgates open. The lsk389 is so much better than either the 2sk389 or the individual versions used in the B52 that it is worth waiting to do it right. I have a dynafet prototype with 2sk389/2sj109 and it is kickass. No matching of parts will be necessary, just stuff the board and it works. -
Lets be fair, the parts cost may be as high as $500 which makes it only 6 times the cost of parts. There are 2 chassis afterall Very interesting on ray's website, all internal pictures of the apache have been removed. And no internal pictures of the power supply have ever surfaced yet. Double the output impedance of a hr-2. Very sloppy bass with lower impedance headphones. The M^3 is a far better circuit with way more output power than the apache.

woot has power conditioner! (11/14 only)

I bought a dirt-dog because i could not handle the mess in my garage anymore. It does a great job. So i bought a roomba and a scooba to clean up after the dogs. (and drive them nuts) They should be here tomorrow. -
Can you just imagine what jude looks like, and smells like after 4 days in that datacenter... Euwwwwwwwww... At least he does not have to shave

I have not published the KGST yet. I think there are 3 versions. Have not even done a board layout yet either. When the lsj109 finally appears, there will be many new designs, published. The KGST does not use a lsj109 anyway. Lots of new designs on the drawing board and prototypes built in fiberglass lunch trays... For years and years even

The KGBHSE and the KGST are two different things entirely. Over at that other site that is still down i posted pictures of my KGBHSE. I'm pretty sure that all that is left is for the real chassis parts to show up. And they are probably roughly on schedule. But you know justin, they will have to be absolutely mirror finish perfect. Pretty sure the whole first batch is sold out, but contact justin to see if any are left. here is a few of the pictures. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/g9f22761.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/g9f22763.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/g9f22764.jpg

Not a single moderator over there that has ever owned an electrostatic product. Ray can't steal any useful designs without untold amount of grief, and is completely incapable of coming up with anything on his own. Therefore the mods ignore the stax threads.

Great stuff. Absolutely true.
-
Filburt and everyone else is absolutely correct. The only reason that the gain of 11 option is available is that it is a copyover from the hornet design. That high gain is designed for sources that have an output voltage of only 100mv or so. This is clearly stupid as the internal dac has an output of way more than that. Given the 4.0 volts (absolutely fully charged and even overcharged a bit) and a rail to rail opamp that looses .4 volts, the absolute maximum output voltage is going to be 3.6 VAC Peak to Peak.

pbs does a show every year for the top 5 nutcases. this is not even the wannabe's http://www.planetchristmas.com/ShowingOff2002.htm

I think the record is that one guy in iowa with 500,000 watts (gets bigger each year) At the chicago pricing of .11 per killowatt hour, that is about $55 per hour, 4 or so hours a night for about 45 days is about $10k.
