  1. If that proves to be the case, then this will likely be my last post on Head Case.
  2. Its announcement has seemed to have been ignored here, but IMO, this is a very special headphone. I own the W1000X, and acknowledge its faults, but there is no comparison between the two. If you love opera, female vocals, chamber music, etc. I am sure you will love the W3000ANV.
  3. Read about this on Computer Audiophile, tried it and like it. Nice alternative to Remote. Try it in landscape mode to see more information on your albums.
  4. It's interesting that it doesn't happen with iTunes alone, but only when Amarra Mini is open.
  5. My experience with OS Lion on my MacBook Pro (2009) and Amarra Mini/iTunes, is that web browsing with Safari causes the music to cut out for a second or two occasionally. This seems to be limited to Safari, and does not affect applications on the local drive.
  6. Have you heard "that crap" to be able to make that statement - assuming you are referring to the Amphora. If not, my apologies!
  7. I used their announcement of version 2.2 email to reply, and ask them for my serial number. They replied 2 hrs. later with the serial number.
  8. A new cable is available for the LCD-2 from Audeze. Go to the 'Blog' section of their website if you are interested, which contains an order link. Shipping cost only for 2011 LCD-2 purchasers, $40 for 2010 purchasers until the end of February and then $80. Cheers.
  9. I believe (but am not positive) that you will need to have a DLNA server to stream music to it. For Mac users running iTunes, it won't work directly with the OPPO BDP-93 - I have tried it and it doesn't recognize the Mac. I was thinking of buying a NAS drive to store and stream my music through it, but that means another box. I am by no means an expert on this subject, and recommend the AVS Forum threads for answers on this player, as the beta testers for the OPPO BDP-93 post there and also answer questions.
  10. '5' comes after '4'. Yes, I am one of those douchenozzles.
  11. lol ... I didn't say which replays did I?
  12. Stax SR-507 coming in September in case you haven't seen it. USD $1,200 (approx.) according to a post this morning on the other hps site.
  13. Welcome Kennykilla (another Canadian) to Head Case! We will be taking over ... soon. Sorry I can't help on the hp choices as I don't listen to the same genres of music eh, except maybe hockey game replays which sound great with my HD650s.
  14. I have owned Amarra Mini for a week now. The price incidentally is now $295- plus $50 for the USB dongle - for use with multiple computers. Version 2.0 also just came out, and it supports MP3s and has FLAC conversion capabilities although I am still using Max.. I found it very difficult to audition Amarra Mini with the silences every 40 seconds or so, but with the reduced price, plus the fact that I am more or less committed to my Macbook Pro and iTunes, any enhancement is probably worth that investment. To Smeggy's points though, it is not necessarily an immediately noticeable improvement. So far, it seems to me that it tightens up the bass somewhat and overall is now more neutral sounding to me compared with Apple's Core Audio/ iTunes. Of course hearing an improvement with Amarra Mini may just be my imagination, as obviously I would like to hear an improvement after buying it.
  15. Thanks Hens. I appreciate you saying that.
  16. My apologies if I offended anyone, as this wasn't my intention at all. I hadn't read it, but will do so. Thanks for pointing it out to me.
  17. I think you would agree that there is some coloration with every or almost every headphone and speaker. The amp. you used with the W1000X likely also had a big influence too, as I find it to be amp. sensitive, although I want to try several amps. out at CanJam with the W1000X to confirm this. I am not referring to the power required to drive the W1000X, as they are easily driven, it is the SQ differences. I found it somewhat ironic reading Hens comments about the W1000X, which is not to say he is wrong, because this is a matter of personal preference, musical tastes, etc., but while I keep bringing out my HD650 with different recordings, hoping that I will like it better with some music than the W1000X - so far at least, they just keep going back in their box. All I can say to people, is that at least with my setup, Macbook Pro>USB out>RWA Isabellina>W1000X, the W1000X is the most musical and engaging headphone I have listened to. I find it to be clearly superior to my HD 650 (Equinox) and my K701 - for most of the music I listen to, which is about 80% classical, plus some jazz, Pop, and other genres. Although I was building my system around the HD650 - I don't even think it's a close contest between the two when you hear them with a good amp. side by side. The W1000X has better detail, a far deeper soundstage, has a slightly 'sweeter' sound, and to my ears is far, far more musical and engaging. I have commented in several threads that the W1000X sound reminds me of the SQ of British speakers such as Tannoys, but with more detail. They produce a 'lush' sound that you either like for their musicality or don't, because it is not a neutral sound. I would strongly encourage people though to at least investigate the W1000X further and not dismiss it without hearing it yourself. Naturally not everyone is going to like its distinct sound signature - but for others, it is a headphone that could end your search for the perfect headphone for you in this price range - I think it is that satisfying a product.
  18. The W1000X has now earned its way to become my number one headphone, over both my HD650 (Equinox) and K701. Of the three, they are the only one where I have clearly noticed benefits from burn-in time, although I listen to music to burn-in my headphones, which may explain why i don't notice changes at 100 hrs. etc. For classical music lovers I believe the W1000X is highly competitive with the HD650; with chamber music because of its great 3D soundtstage and detail, and for many concerto recordings because it brings forward the soloists so that they are not overpowered by the orchestra. For large choral works - again its 3D soundstage and detail are impressive. I can't comment on Currawong's remarks about its upper mids/lower treble, as while I am knowledgeable about classical music, I am not about frequency graphs, and amps, etc. I would describe the sound as having some 'color' - but in a positive way for my taste. For those familiar with older British Tannoy speakers like the Monitor Reds, for example, the sound of the W1000X has a similar very musical lush sound, but the HP is more detailed. After burn-in, the W1000X sounds smoother to me, and loses some initial sibilance with certain recordings. This is a great headphone IMO, but part of my enthusiasm for it may also come from the fact that it seems to pair very well with my RWA Isabellina amp/DAC.
  19. I don't know about "best", but I got very good service from them, including a prompt response to an email question on the shipping date for my W1000X.
