  1. What a lovely build you have there, and so very compact too. Those offset trimpot adjusters look interestingly positioned.
  2. Bloody Hell!! That is impressive. With my reading glasses and illuminated magnified lamp this thing is still TINY..
  3. soren; Parts arrived today, many thanks. These boards are insanely small!
  4. Congrats....joehpj. Thats a nice looking build you have there. Did you drill the Stax socket hole yourself? if so you've made a really neat job of it. Is this the pot that you have used? worth the money? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=121828993126&_sacat=0
  5. Thanks for all the invaluable info Michael, without which i would surely struggle for a very long time, Excellent pictures by the way.
  6. I have just bought one of these...Super bit of kit and i think a bargain!
  7. Thanks KG. I found what looks like the same attenuator minus mounting hardware and small transformer.http://www.analogmetric.com/goods.php?id=2589 I have ordered a few items from them previously and they were just fine. Hopefully this will work ok. I just fancied a change from a stepped attenuator and as much as i would love an rk50 i don't think my builds are at the level to justify it. I shall report back once it arrives.
  8. Ha ha..I actually have 2 more in the shed. I just couldn't be bothered to go get them for initial setup.
  9. Thanks Chinsettawong and mwl168. The front panel that you see on the amp is one i made up myself (4mm thick). The Original is 8mm!! thick and has a nicely brushed finish. My drill would not be able to cut through it so will probably have to find a metal-shop that can cut out appropriate holes for me as i would surely make a mess of it. By the way did i mention the amp sounds Fab! can't drag myself away from it!
  10. Thanks Kerry. I contemplated cutting the front and Back panels in Half (vertically and i would still retain the same heat-sinking) and having the boards overlap each other (There is enough head-room i believe to keep things safe). This would make the front profile very small indeed!!
  11. Thank you sorenb. I could have put the amp pcb's in a smaller case but i thought i would need the extra heatsinks for when i turn the current up to 20ma. Also i have room to possibly accommodate a relay based attenuator or a nice Siemens or Elma based volume control.
  12. Happy Holidays everyone.. Happy to report i have my CARBON up and running for some 6 hours now. I have set the current output to 17ma approx. I attached some digital thermometers to the Hottest part of the 2 heatsinks and monitored the temperature. 35 deg/c +/- 1 seems to be what they have settled at over the last couple of hours. I zeroed balance/offset to practically zero, the offset drifts a volt or two but much lower than any previous KGSSHV BUILDS. I have found that having 2 headphone outputs makes balance/offset adjustments easier. This amp drives my sr507/009's easily with plenty of range left on the volume control. Speaking of which i was thinking of a relay based volume control such as this http://diyclub.biz/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_248_85&products_id=410 does anyone have any experience with these? any advice on alternatives would be appreciated (i would rather something pre-assembled). I won't go into what it sounds like (i will leave that to those more capable than myself at explaining such things) But i will say i have put my other amps in the closet for now! this thing just sounds superb. As always many many thanks to KG and all those that make these projects possible. Any questions you have i shall do my best to answer them. Usual rules apply......If no Pictures.........Then it didn't happen!! So here you go. By the way i think i over-did it with the Heatsinks in the psu and could well have gotten away with a single heatsink for the HV +/-.
  13. mwl168 Congratulations nice one. I look forward to seeing what it looks like all cased up with a few topless shots for good measure. purk: That sure is a mighty fine looking Carbon you have there 2xPro Bias AND HE90 sockets Yummy!
  14. Finally got off my back side and populated some pcb's. Waiting for a transformer from Toroidy.pl so to test the GB HV i hooked it up to one that is powering another amp, it outputs 2 x 330v @150ma. The one i have on order is 2 x 330v @250ma 2 x 18vac I guess that should give me some headroom with regards to adjusting the output current. I had it running for a few minutes and had some digital thermometers attached to the angle brackets just so i could keep an eye on the temps. I am very happy to report i have working HV and LV psu's and the voltages between +/- are pretty close. Many thanks once more KG for giving us these amazing things to build and of course mwl168 and sorenb for taking the time and effort organising the GB's.
  15. No problem....Best to get the right packing materials. UK customs appear to have little regard for whats inside international packages judging by the condition some of my parcels arrive in!
  16. I once used some 30mm x 30mm x 5mm angle for the brackets. I bent the legs of a 10M90S 90deg so they align with there corresponding holes exactly, however once i put a ceramic washer 2mm thick i believe underneath, the legs of the 10M90S were barely visible from the other side! i now use 3mm thick angle (E-bay) and it seems to work just fine.
  17. WOW! that must be a good couple of KG's/$ worth of pcb's there. That didn't take very long.
  18. Hope i'm not too late on this one? added interest in 2x bare and 1x10k complete.
  19. My question to the GB participants that has choosen the FAT singles, would they consider changing to Skinny singles if the board is being traced? I put myself down for 2x Fat and 2x Skinny. I would be more than happy to change to 4x skinny single's. Firstly if it makes things a little simpler for mwl168, Secondly if it makes them a bit cheaper for everyone then thats good too and thirdly if you intend to trace the chosen pcb's then that would seal the deal! i would trace them myself if i only knew what that meant?.............
