  1. Thanks for the quick reply and update! I'll look forward to whenever you are able to put this back on the front burner.
  2. Hi spritzer. Any chance you've had the time and inclination to pick this project back up? I'm still very interested in attempting a build once green lit.
  3. Looks awesome! Can't wait to hear more about this project as it comes together.
  4. Makes sense. I just took another glance at the amb shop, and it looks like he doesn't stock the dynalo or dynahi boards anymore but still has a handful of the requisite transistors. If nothing else, I imagine that stocking these parts works from a business perspective because it facilitates marketing the σ22 as a psu upgrade.
  5. Maybe he has since changed his policies? AMB exchanged several emails with me and sold me a handful of parts, including a couple of 2sj109's, for my dynahi project fairly recently (last November I believe).
  6. Thank you Pars - I really appreciate the response and guidance! George - thank you as well for your follow up and the heads up on bdent's stock. Given the relatively outrageous premium they are charging, and the fact that I would still be using GR grade 2sa1349s, I imagine it still makes the most sense to give the build a go with the 2sc3381 GR's I already have on hand.
  7. I'm cobbling together the parts for 2 channel dynahi (on the '04 boards) and was hoping you guys might be able to provide a little guidance regarding GR vs. BL grade transistors. Amb happened to have a couple of 2SJ109BLs on hand recently, so I went ahead and ordered those up. I also already have a pair of 2SK389's (that I got along with the boards a while back), but I just noticed they are GR grade. I also have a line on some 2SA1349's and 2SC3381's (through the diyaudio forums), but I understand they are also GR grade. Am I stepping in it if I use this combination in the same amp?
  8. I'm a sympathizer but definitely not an alter ego. No doubt Grawk's criticism is valid as far as nwavguy's communication style, but I still generally found his posts engaging and his measurements valuable. That said, measurements, while interesting, are unlikely to change my preferences. For example, I continue to really enjoy the sound of well implemented tube amps, and their even-order harmonic distortion, even if nwavguy deems them archaic and inherently flawed. Thanks jvlgato - kind of you to say! I just updated my profile, but in short, I'm doing most of my listening these days on a pair of hd800's via a bottlehead crack (modded a bit thanks to some gracious hand-holding from Beefy over in the HF thread). Perhaps I should call it a "beefy crack"? In any event, this was my first real intro into the internals of audio circuits, but I aspire to continue to learn.
  9. I was referring to kwkarth as the asshole (based on both this situation and his previously referenced strangle hold on the various HF LCD2 threads). I have really enjoyed reading nwavguy's posts and blog, by contrast. In my view, he is providing a much needed counterbalance to the nonsense spouted by 6moons and the like. Although admittedly, if I made audio gear for a living, I can't say I would be super eager to have him review it... I read the same elsewhere, but he expressly disputes this in his blog comments. (See the entry time stamped 7:29 p.m.)
  10. Since it relates to 3 of the last 5 posts, I thought I might break my silence and point out that nwavguy was banned from HF today (http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/07/banned-at-head-fi.html#comments) for speaking up about an obvious design defect in one of schiit's amps and then exchanging PM's with kwkarth about it... That guy really is an asshole. As this is my first post, I'll just go ahead and climb in the barrel now to prepare myself for the usual buggering from the head-case welcome committee.
