  1. IQ84

I've never done a serious test. Most of the time I score between 100-115, depending on how lazy I feel at that moment. But don't feel bad about your IQ, man- many people think that if you don't score high then you're condemned for life. IQ can and will change throughout your life, you weren't born with that number, therefore if you want it higher then just work on it. And don't forget that there's also the EQ- emotional intelligence was recently all the rage among the staff departments.

  2. Currently avoiding.

    idea-phenomenology-edmund-husserl-hardcover-cover-art.jpg

But my essay is more than a week overdue. And more than five years I've been avoiding dear Edmund by reading only secondary literature. But alas, he has finally caught me in Reykjavik. The fun part tho will be doing a phenomenological analysis of various modes of music listening. Just five pages away...

  3. Ramsey disappointed me as well. From all my study group none (even the vegetarian ladies) had any problems in handling their Hákarl or anything from the þorramatur for that matter. The only food I had trouble with the liver sausage because organ meats trigger my gag reflex quite easily. But I find that straining my abs keeps me from gagging.

  4. So where does an Icelandic pick up putrefied shark fish? Is it readily available at the local shop?

I think that some local shops carry them. I tried mine in a hotel restaurant together with various other Icelandic "goodies." Though I'm not sure if locals very often eat all the putrid foods. From what I've heard these meats were eaten at the end of the winter when there was nothing else left and the Icelandic "bon appetit" literally translates as "may this do good for you" as in "I hope you don't get sick from this stuff". Maybe I'm mistaken though and I'm sure that Birgir will correct me.

  5. I tried the black death after eating some putrid shark. That fish tasted like herring mixed with ammonia and old socks, seemed like a good snack with strong drinks, maybe even wine. But the Black Death is overrated. I've drank absinthe in many ways, hell I've even tried eau de Cologne in my wilder days but the Black Death tasted like average schnapps with a nice caraway flavor. A girly respite after the horrors of the putrid shark, it wasn't black and it sure wasn't deadly.

I'd happily try some more of that sharky. Better than putrid ram's testicles, that's for sure.

  6. Everyone (in the free world) has the right to disagree with what governments decree by law, regulation, taxes, duties, fees & etc. But I'm with dsavitsk on this issue. You can disagree without breaking the law. You can protest, fight for change or refuse to buy/import/export. When you disobey you become anarchists, liars, cheats, frauds, tieives, & etc. You may believe "everyone does it". I don't

No amount of posturing, debate or argument will cause either side to change their view. Jim, you're right. We'll have to agree to disagree.

I agree to that, I for one will be fighting with a soldering iron in my hand. Though I'd rather have the tax money stay in the manufacturers country so it can promote the manufacturer I'm buying from. Not the country that could not provide me with the goods I'm after.

And yeah, in this case with Iceland, I don't think that duties are really applicable. Maybe guys just saved the customs some paperwork.

  7. With such a high duty tax in many countries, who would blame them? The REAL crime is expecting people to pay that crap.

This. Duties bite me in the ass real hard and all I can do legally is to turn the other cheek. Or buy from Lake People, Musical Fidelity and such...

  8. Not to de-rail the thread much- has there been any reaction from Fostex concerning Smeggy or other modders? I heard that they were in the RMAF this year so they must know something.

Regarding the LCD-2 craze. It was a lucky coincidence of many factors- price point, looks, the legend, reviews and the idea that it doesn't need insane amping to shine. To be honest the hype caught me bigtime as well. Now for the darkish headphone to complement my SR80i I might be looking in the Sennheiser ranks. HD600 and HD650 seems like a good deal and seem to scale well with better with upgrades throughout the chain. Also they are well priced in Europe.

  9. Yea, as I said, drinking in Iceland is not too wallet friendly. Tax politics are used to decrease alcohol consumption and I can't say that the choice of rums is really good. But Bacardi/Cpt. Morgan/Old Captain are okayish when mixed with coke and lime, though I immensely prefer Havana Club for that.

And I didn't came here to get drunk! I came here drink from the chalice of wisdom, but it mixes very good with wines unfortunately.

  10. Crap, I'm drinking a Cuba Libre with dark Bacardi (the only thing it is good for) and it has a strange iodine aftertaste. Got to switch to the spiced/golden Captain Morgan.

Btw, has any of you guys tried the soapstone cubes for cooling drinks? Do they alter the taste in any way? I might get some of those for Christmas to my friends.

  11. For me, the enticing thing about the Note is that amazing screen it has. It's got the same resolution as Samsung's new 7 inch tablet. If I were a 7 foot tall dude with huge hands, I'd get one for sure.

Don't forget that these dudes also have pretty large fingers. I'm 6''1' and at first it was pretty hard for me to type on the vertical orientation keyboard.

  12. Thank goodness you were all younguns and there was no one present with a pacemaker programmed in the unipolar sensing configuration.azn.gif

Would have made the tour much more interesting.

They instructed us thoroughly before we set foot in that hangar. We had to leave all watches, mobile phones, jewelry, credit cards outside. Though I must admit that standing there in that magnetic field felt kinda funny. I wonder what are the long term health effects when working in such environment.

  13. I went to a trip to an aluminium smelter. We got inside in one of the hangars and one of the guides handed out steel paper clips. I took one and as I clutched it I felt that it feels a bit odd. Then i opened my palm...

Turns out that they are using the electrolysis method and the production line is giving out such magnetic field that it kept all the clips standing aslant. Keep in mind that this was a good 5 meters from the machinery. If I'm not mistaken then one of these lines use about 1.5GW and the whole plant uses about 20% of all Icelandic electric power. The presentation was in Icelandic so I might have got the facts wrong.

Seems that many companies are doing such presentations for free to promote their product. I have heard that aluminum industry in Iceland is a bit frowned upon by the locals, so it seems that they are trying to convince the populace. Otherwise I have no idea why philosophy, linguistics and film making students should be invited to an aluminum factory. The refreshments that followed were really good, wine, beer and various sandwiches and pastries.

  14. Another thing about pancakes are that they're prime lenses. Prime lenses don't appeal to the general public/consumers, which for the most part is what NEX lineup has been targeting, rather than enthusiasts/pros.

Hmm, not sure if that rings true for NEX-7. It's the first camera that has made me to think about switching from D300 to Sony. But as I said- I don't see many lenses that appeal to me.

  15. You've expressed some of the concerns I had watching that video. I like what I see but in the back of my mind I was thinking things like: "Gosh, I wonder how much choice and how many different ways I can handle that scenario?"

The Hitman vision, like the Batman one, is something that the user can avoid using although I find that's easier said than done. I used it far too much in Arkham Asylum and it was almost like having an outright cheat.

I'm not sure how far into the future this game is from release but I'm hoping that these devs are true to their word like in that QA session. Make sure Hitman is actually Hitman!

  16. To me it seems that while the NEX-7 is a very well designed camera the achilles heel of the whole system is the lack of good compact lenses. Take for example the olympus pancakes, why can't Sony/Zeiss come up with something similar? Most of the NEX system lens designs seem to be just copies from SLR lenses with a ring to compensate for the lack of mirror box. That's lazy design, if you ask me. There are dozens of old rangefinder lens designs that could be improved with modern technology and implemented in the NEX system. If I would buy a NEX the first thing I'll be looking for are non-retrofocal wides and ultrawides. There are 12mm and 15mm Heliars, but operating with them is far from hassle free.

  17. Too much on rails. Also hitmanvision seems a terrible addition, previously on easy you had a map with all the characters, but you had to figure out the patrol routes yourself. Too much unjustified and unnecessary death, the point blank shot takedown seems stupid if you are about take someones clothes.

I hope that this was a training level of some sort- that should explain the linearity. All that is left to clean up is the retarded unhitman logics of gameplay. Otherwise it'll be Batman meets Conviction.
