  1. My condolences to Mike. Even if I don't know him, I feel that every death is a loss.

So, yesterday I left the land of the ice and snow and through Copenhagen flew back to my fatherland- Latvia. Visited two electronics stores on the way and had a good talk with one of the clerks in the store at Keflavik airport. And in Copenhagen finally got to listen the infamous Beats. Well... At least my HD-25-II in addition to reproduce beats can take them as well, all of these Beats felt like toys.

Today fired up my old rusty soldering rod and put back the voicecoil to one of the contacts on my HD25-II. That'll teach me to not repair stuff without proper tools. The SR-80i is going to a dear friend of mine, a music journalist and true mellomaniac.

  2. I have two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.

Which headphone should I get Tyll?

  3. And I thought that only anacondas are long and strong! Seems like good kit from Beezar. I'll wait for some impressions from around here until I pull the trigger. Also by that time my wallet will recover after Christmas.

P.S. I like the layout! Long amps let me save on cables!

  4. Took apart one driver of the HD25-II with a kitchen knife and nail clippers, because I had a suspicion that some crud in the connector is responsible for signal loss when moving the jack. So far so good. However when I replaced one of the springs that provide the connection I caught the small wire that goes to the voice coil... Luckily it broke just at the solder point. I was contemplating about heating the knife up on a stove for some field soldering but then I remembered that I still haven't got anything conductive that I could melt for soldering. Besides snow, that is.

So bread and pastries it is, tomorrow.

  5. The 'M' is hard to read, but I'm pretty sure it says "Mjölnir Audio". It sure would make sense for somebody whose middle name is Thor.

I think that Thor is a common name in Iceland. The guy who fed me this:

was also called Thor, 2 meters tall with long blonde hair!

Great work on the faceplate, Birgir!

  6. *Switching information output to: ass*

I would not like to judge a book by its cover... But take a look at that soldering:

I don't know about the whole DAC husbandry at Audio GD, but that Ref 7.1 seems like a pretty flagshippy product. Call me conservative but if that kind of soldering can go through the QC of a high-end DAC... Let's just say that it would make me to think twice about getting something from these guys.

*Reset information output to default. Audiophile databanks: inaccessible*
