  1. Thanks. The G2 does not normally do IR. Mine was converted by having its hotmirror replaced with one that lets in IR light but blocks most of the visible spectrum. There are several outfits that do the conversion, LifePixel is the most well known. The reason I use the G2, which is pretty ancient in the world of digicams (4MP, tiny LCD, can't use CF cards bigger than 1GB) is that I got it for less than the cost of an IR conversion. When I get my next DSLR, I hope to convert my 30D to IR. Unfortunately, LifePixel just raised their prices. I can only imagine what they will be when I finally buy a second DSLR.
  2. ...it's not like Tyll has a history of wearing colorful outfits and being photographed or anything...
  3. Wow, that was quick, Reks. The D90 will let you do video (BFD, IMJO) but will AF with most modern primes and (I think) meter through your older manual lenses. Also, in general, it has a much better meter than the older D80. My friend Archie has the D80 and he is forever compensating for its meter insanity. Not to add to your fiscal woes, but I suspect you will find yourself wanting a 35mm prime at some point. The seems to quite like his 35mm F/1.8 DX.
  4. Moved the following out of the MV house and into the workshop: Washer Dryer Gas stove Gargantuan Victorian sideboard 5-drawer tall chest 3-mirror Victorian vanity Still left is a bunch of smaller items, a round oak table with 3 leaves, a CRT television that I have half a mind to take a bat to, and probably a bunch of other shit I am forgetting.
  5. That is a product of 4chan, which is (A) the asshole of the internet and ( a place that delights in mocking things that aren't funny. For me, the interest it no so much the humor but the fact that someone put so much effort into it. What's David Cameron got on his mind?

  8. Cat pictures, huh?
  9. All this talk of work benches, I wish I'd taken a picture of mine before I started loading up the workshop. I might still be able to before I move the rest in tomorrow. There's not quite enough room for me to get it all in frame. ...kinda wish I'd sprung for that EF-S 10-22mm superwide zoom for APS-C cropped sensors.
  10. Welcome. Please (re)read the new user PM, and watch out for the shovels.
  11. Moved around half the contents of my grandfather's workshop, then carried several pieces of furniture down to it and stacked them. I still have to move 3 large appliances (washer, dryer, stove) as well as all the furniture that's too heavy for my (nearly-septuagenarian, cancer-surviving) mother to help me with. In theory, the caretaker we use for the property is going to show up tomorrow to give me a hand. He was supposed to be here this morning to collect a Victrola I said I'd give him, but he never showed. If he's not here tomorrow, I'm going to have real problems.
  12. Yesterday, I finally met my neighbor across the pond. This was the first time I have seen her since the early 1980s, when I was quite young. I gave her two prints of photos of her house I took a couple of years ago: I asked her if I could venture around to her side of the pond and get a few shots of my house before I tear it down. She said of course. I went over later that even and took a bunch of shots. I haven't had much time to go through them, but I did pick out this infrared shot and clean it up a bit:
