  1. one internal shot at other place in profile album... will update tomorrow...
  2. Thanks to Kevin, Birgir, Kerry and James....and mwl168 for the GB!! Mine is running now...very yummy! I used a 32120 Full aluminum chassis Amplifier Case External Size:320×120×311mm boards mounted vertical with Antek transformers, Xicon 273 series resistors I swing the heatsinks out to adjust pots and use a 16" non conductive tool it came up fine with no problems, adjusted current to 14ma for now, set balance and offset. not using the servo's yet,
  3. mahdi8 I don't know the science but have found that I need 5mm holes or it doesn't vent well. On the onboard KGSSHV top I used 323 5mm holes, and its still over 60C in some spots and yes It was fun drilling those out larger as I started with 3.25mm others here would have better information but I would think you need much more holes and bigger also like a CPU 60C is comfortable. still need to case my own Dynahi.........
  4. Not using this board for a while, if at all.. But of the 5 amps here, I have not seen any over 600v when warm. but will check again, I would think 5% would be fine. 550v-610v easy enough to change one for 20v lower or higher also how do I know which of my 7 or so Digital Multimeters is right? Wouldn't even 10% be safe for the phones?
  5. I have built one of the Fat PS boards , kgsshvpssicfetsinglenewrightfat gerbers dated Tuesday, ‎July ‎28, ‎2015, ‏‎2:38:28 PM and want to report that it works... 408vdc at anything above 310vac input, bias is also good.
  6. After building the SRX Plus I decided to try the CCS on an Egmont. Copying Kevin's layout I drew up this: Having two Egmont's I can A/B them to compare. It is a huge improvement, more volume and much less distortion. Much more of a usable amp now. Noticeably cleaner bass. like Night and Day. With 320v rails and the resistor values of the SRX CCS the tube bias is adjustable up to about 5.55 ma, currently running them around 5ma. The R& L channel offset is up to -40v so I lowered the 580v bias a bit to compensate. Also tried 3 sets of 5965 output tubes and results are similar. May try to raise the cathode resistance a little. Add a hundred ohms? I have an old BK scope and I will try to figure out what point the two amps go into distortion. A Big Thank You to All for posting your work ....
  7. I'm saying that I did something wrong,,, It should sound more like the others. I didn't get the right tubes for it? (good quality 6s4a's)
  8. Yes Kevin's files and His kgbhultraminipsV4 PS, The tubes are out the back like on Megatron. pic's on other site as I can't figure out how to do it here. Made the boards on a DIY Microcarve CNC (dust and noise but no ferric cloride) and yes it is a fun way to waste a bunch of time> Thanks to Kevin for handing out the files. Question: the SRX sounds much better than my KGST, which was built using same parts as my KGSSHV. while the KGST has more gain than SRX, it is also harsh and the bass is not as good. no complaints with KGSSHV poor choice of tubes?
  9. Hi; I built this amp, boards and case. And while it looks homemade, it works so well that I want to know why? What am I comparing too?...... KGSSHV, Megatron ,KGST,Egmont. other than the excellent details JimL posted in this thread this is the best information I have found: Spritzer said: and later said: I am hoping some of the veteran builders will do this amp this year, Maybe I got lucky with the 1950's Sylvania green label SN7GTA's / and not so Lucky buying tubes for the KGST. Either that or with all the CCS's this amp is just really good. thanks
  10. Thanks Pars, had not seen that. If I hook up enough meters, it should become apparent what the extra pots do.
  11. Hi I have the boards populated (from the latest Lil' Knight GB) do not understand how the adj pots work, both seem to change bias and offset. Also does .375V across the emitter resistors sound right? Is there a different thread to look in? Am using it SE, - input grounded......- output floating. Thanks
  12. Ok what kind of gun can you ban to prevent a school shooting? None, you can't.
  13. Hi all: I've enjoyed reading this thread, the last two weeks.. In the mid 70's I bought the Stax sr-44 set. And enjoyed them for 20 years.. Until the cable wore out.. this was before I had internet skills... I tried to fix...made it worse..got shocked..threw them out.. Recently I found the other fourm and then this one..began reading... bought another sr-44 set > very low volume..broken. so got a set of sr-84's that do work, with minor channel imbalance.. transplanted the drivers into the sr-40 because I like the look and feel of them.. last week I picked up from ebay the sr-3n .. very nice...like new condition... OK am using a srd-7 to drive it and it takes an hour to charge up>> low volume -- lots of distortion, but when charged !! they are the best I have heard... the srd7 came from korea and is 100V only.. from what I could find on google there may be zeners to cap the voltage and thus its safe to use on 120v?? also the power light blinks...(randomly) I do HVAC and tried to use a Fieldpeace meter to check bias but could not find any voltage that looks even close to 230v dc....In the bias circuit Is the case ground? I have another srd-7 on the way, so will figure this out later this week. Tommorow I will have .. Mylar C 2um 20M + Elvamide 60g .. and plan to fix the sr-40 drivers, I do plan on attempting to convert them into electrostatic drivers.. I have pictures and dimensions of the internals.. It looks doable at this point. 1) make a bias connection on the brass center ring ( tig weld, conductive glue?) 2) replace mylar and dust-covers. 3) rewire with 6 conductor 1000v wire... whether this works or not ,, I will then follow chinsettawong's steps and build new drivers... no cnc machine here but I do have a bridgeport with digital readouts.. also want to build a poormans amp when its ready. Ok its clear that this is a small group here in the head-fi stax thread .. and I am not in your league, of knowledge or buying ability.. but will try to catch up where I can. Gary in ohio
