  1. I really did not pay any attention to the time frame; yes, swt had a point there, truth be told. The whole thread is just unbelievable.
  2. Sorry, I was just in disbelief reading the parts, or the entirety of the thread...
  3. The last time I visited he was also churning out some lollipops, but this time prices were flat rate... smarts indeed...
  4. +1 on this. Much needed thread, and not only at head-case (pun intended to some (several) other places).
  5. Those were (in excellent condition) for sale here recently... The price was... khm.. measly 8500 €
  6. Yeah, well... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGi2AlMhraQ
  7. Well, it's the other way round, as I see it: I am still NOT waiting for you to give a proper answers to any of the findings that @spritzer presented here. I gave up on waiting for you to say something sensible early in this thread. I cannot use the plural here, that is, mention what others are waiting for here. Since I have no idea. As in, I am surprised that they still have this much patience with you. I cannot see what "facts" you have mentioned in any of your posts, apart from praising the whatever devices in question for their sound quality. Regarding your quote from the manufacturer, I see that one as really revealing as well. Kind of reminded me of one another attempt of "rebuttal" several years ago. I am just sitting here and waiting for someone to dissect it properly, since I have read it. It only did reaffirm the impressions I already got, from way before you have quoted it here. Just to remind about one small detail: The guy ( @spritzer ) presented hard facts, the way he sees them, and you in return called him "an asshole", for that. Which, to me, says a whole lot. This. 🏆
  8. What can I say... nordic "internal deviations" The local version here is Skål... but the etymology of the word is what's more interesting... as you probably already know...
  9. From the bottom of my heart... I envy you ! You have probably destroyed more things than other people (none mentioned, none forgotten ) have seen... and - I meant, of course, electronics - audio related stuff...
  10. ... just when I had hopes 'bout someone building me an amp here... confidence level rising...
  11. Furthest I've come was launching a led diode to the ceiling from the circuit board... no countdown prior...
  12. Just started to read on (from its beginning) old thread... very interesting... will do some reading on it now to see what eventually happened with that 1.2k V amp project... Still probably doesn't match this "venture"
  13. Thanks for the offset... now for me : off to the nearest bridge and jump... Ever considered some charity work, Birgir ? Now, joke aside, I think there's far more serious issue raised by the question of dissecting amps, building the same (only improved though) staff or the far lesser price.... it really boils down to the matter of the state of the "industry" and how to improve it... Not really wanting to sound pretentious (with all risk to get there inadvertently), just a food for thought. Oh, another thing, spritzer, You have mentioned earlier that you are not sure you would want to become a brand. That being entirely (within) your discression, I for one believe it is a darn shame, nothing wrong with earning something and at the time improving the state of the industry or business for what could become a vast array of customers and - well - heafiers -headcasers, audiofiles, etc. Someone said that appreciating a good quality (and well engineered) sound and music is really a matter of culture... couldn't be more true.
  14. Overbuilt staff rule (when done properly)... HD800, well, yes, thinking again, +1 on that - some Beyerdynamic came out, K812 (reportedly not measuring as well as HD800)... But HD800 started an ugly trend of serious, major jump in prices of the cans ... Orthos - never tried any of them, some swear by them, others even returned to supposedly much lesser and cheaper dynamics, claiming that they never found in them what they already had in their dynamics, so... who knows... Speaking of overbuilt stuff (physically and otherwise), whatever happened to the thread where the same overbuilt stuff was supposed to be well possible to make for like 500 $ max ? I remember some things said about the amp design, some caps bleeding into circuit, etc... Btw., posting the pic of something (custom) built by some former Copland engineer... Anything sized less than (about) this (not to mention that puny stax amp(s) ) should be prohibited by the law . Make stuff properly, god dammit.
  15. Reading from the different sources (not only the head-case.org, but mostly), everything points about what you've said about the amp... opting to go with the non-stax (on not the one at the link) amp would be the option... funny though... as a side note: the founder of the beyerdynamic (I have read somewhere) reportedly deemed out the electrostat technology as something that will never be optimal for headphones... I actually have the reverse "illness", I have always thought that those stack amps look too small... I would actually love to have an electrostat amp of the size of the Studio Six or one of the Apex amps... Again, more to the point... the price distribution of the cans themselves and the amp is telling : http://hifi-freaks.dk/webshop//produkter-hovedtelefoner-hovedtelefoner-stax-sr-007ii-p-359.html if you look at the pricing of the package, amp + can. While decent SR007 rig is - well - pricey, when you look at the top of the line dynamic and ortho- amps + cans vs. SR007 + good electrostat amp... well, the question remains, i guess even pricewise... leaps in the sound quality of the dynamic systems have been admittedly made over the years, but still... questionmark on why one would opt as of today for the dynamic system vs. making the long-term investment on SR007mkII based one. There were some (endless?) debates whether electrostats cut it for the bass-heavy music, i just wonder whether the whole issue was really the amps used and not the cans themselves..
  16. Skimming through this thread... just looked out of coincidence on one retailer's page in Denmark... no advertising by any means, so please remove the link if needed, or notify me to do so. http://hifi-freaks.dk/webshop//produkter-hovedtelefoner-saet-forstaerker-hovedtelefon-stax-sr-007-sr-007mkii-srm-007tii-p-349.html Now, looking at the price point (not knowing a squat about the quality of the amp itself) the question naturally arising is: What is the point of dealing with the dynamic system at all (or orthos, for that matter) - pricewise and regarding the sound quality? This is really honest question on my behalf... it just seems striking that for this price you can get electrostats...
  17. this was exactly two hours ago. Appreciate all the candid(ness) here, however, I fail to see how relevant all of that is to the subject of this thread. Most interesting posts here were those issuing the technical details on the orpheus, as well as criticism based on that. More of that, please, can we agree on that and that, on my behalf I WILL SHUT THE FUCK UP about anything close to K701 ?
  18. Lol... omg ... Hey, girls, girls! I can also mention names of people who have dissimilar opinions, and still get along with well! ... Girls ?
  19. Oh, really... (?) Ask spritzer bout whos interested in what - I had some questions for him on amps, and he was at the time the world of difference to you and the rest of the "tribal community" here... (sorry for dragging his name into this MUD), but... I mean, really ... No answer to questions I asked on the subject, still ?
  20. You sound bitter and abrasive, sorry to say this. ATHW whatever you list you've got is shit in comparison to K701, thank You very much. If this is the way of administering the forum on your behalf, and greeting "new" members, then, well, clap clap, You have my applauses. Move the posts or erase them, for all I could care. You complain about other sites, what is the principal difference between the way you act here, and them - you being more rude, direct, insulting and ignorant ? I'm picking now on You since you're going on about nothing relevant, (to this thread), but neglect to say anything about the question I posed here. On amps and this Oprheus stuff, while the crap being pushed hard is sold elsewhere. I am raising the same point as some well respected members here (gilmore, spritzer), so what's your problem ? I have read the forum much more than you can imagine. I don't have to go to another forum to post what douche bag you are trying to show you are, you are doing excellent job yourself on that here. Leave bitterness to someone else, I have no time nor interest to go to sponsored forum(s) and complain about some insignificant - life consuming pleasantries here. I do not care for any person, especially that unpleasant (for no reason whatsoever apart from going up from bed on the wrong foot), nor do I care much more for any issues you have personally with any other headphone site, or cans, for that matter. I am interested in technology and already have had correspondence with some members of this forum, who post frequently here, on (mildly) technical issues with amps. If that is the tone and the attitude you choose to take (with anyone), again, for reasons best known to yourserf, well, you can get it back with some interest.
  21. I imagine that (even if You are administrator on this forum) I am not "selling" anything to anyone here; furthermore the K701 is mid fi, well known entity since long ago, and far from the preference of the members here. I am not remotely interested in convincing (and not even remotely selling) anyone in anything here. If people are not interested in the fashion You are implying, well, then let them voice their opinion themselves, which they obviously do. What i wrote earlier about psychoacustical issues and human hearing, well, I can refer to that - if needed, but I suppose no one here is interested in that either. More on the subject, I would be far more interested, instead of sort of bickering here, see some things happen in reality. The real deals instead of the talks. I have read with some interest the vast amount of criticism of other products, issued loud and clear here at head-case, and I do believe that many of those points and details taken here (on the equipment (amps) shilled elsewhere, around the globe ) are technically sound and well founded. Which makes me wonder about the state of the industry as it is today... This thread is a good example of the proof of the concept, which, sadly is so pervertedly (i don't know if that word even exists) expensive that it deserves to be countered with something sounding at least as good and costing infinitely less. How come the gripe here is about my small appearance, but not about that, in my opinion, important subject, in exactly this thread? Other headphone sites are not gaining in popularity, not even in Europe (I happen to live there), since it is well known that they are sponsored sites and often used for the marketing of the products represented there. Not my words, but opinion voiced in other languages (than english) at other local head-related sites. That other site(s) you mention - well, actually, I would hate to see that anyone here shares any of the traits present at such places...
  22. Opinions, of course, differ, I do respect actually that each has his own. I can only quote a dissimilar one, then again, as I have said before, it could be in some cases down to the matter of personal preference... quote: "- K501 vs K701 There was no contest here. If this were like a real match-up, the K501 would be like Little Red Riding Hood scurrying away from the big bad K701 wolf. The K701 was simply better than the K501 in every single way possible - WAY better. There was no need to even critically listen for differences. Oh that's not to say the K501 is miserable against the K701. It just sounds like a cheaper headphone against the might that is the K701. But when you take the K701 out of the equation, the K501's virtues are clear - a strong, defined treble that's slightly aggressive, with a very emphasized sparkle. And a forward lower treble."
