  1. quoted for appreciation. :o
  2. I'd try her stuff too! looks interesting. She needs to add some leather to her wardrobe though.... j/k welll.. maybe not.
  3. Hot Dog!! It seems to me that they can double as gas-mask filters in a hurry! yay!
  4. oh, and eat some pie while at it......
  5. WHO let the doggie out?? Wait, is that the PTT(H) device,? how'bout the earphone? is it a package deal??
  6. dang, I don't even remember where the jpeg for my avatar is anymore.... i better go around finding a new one.... he he' and I do love that black background theme whatever it is called. I guess once you go black, you'll never to back. edit (the seach topic within thread is great btw,)
  7. dammit, is that what them call prougreiss. thanks for taking the time tkam
  8. Irrespectivelly of the means ( i.e. speakers or cans): -What is the audible effect of phase inversion? -Is the same to invert phase at the source or pre-amp/headamp, as it is to flip a switch let say through the AA DDE stuff or HP1s switch or switching the speaker posts? In other words, is the audible effect of a phase inverting preamp, headamp, or source the same as to that of inverting phase at speakers, cans end? I remember reading somewhere on H-F once that an audible switch on phase would lead to shift on sound image of 180 degrees.... I think it was Kevin Gilmore that mentioned this, but I am not 100% sure.
  9. Dusty, Your proposition about testing the phase using a cd is in principle a good one. But in the case in question it would involve having to change the pins on the source or maybe on some interconnects. So it is not as easy as fliping a switch in this case. And may be a bit too involved to be a useful excercise, no? To all (and any) readers: But what would inverting the phase do on headphones, if it is audible, would it conduce to a 180 degree shift on the sound? Please cope with my ignorance on the subject. **Is it the same to invert the phase on a recording (source), as it is to invert the phase lets say on the pins on speakers?? In other words, recording phase vs hardware phase. Are they the same?
  10. I was not sure whether to post this in the dedicated source or amp section. Finally decided to post on the amp section Been intrigued lately by something... I know many popular preamps and headphone amps invert phase. I have also noticed reading some specifications (and some dedicated source forums), that some sources have balanced terminals with inverted phase. (i.e. Accuphase, Burmester, and others), with different pin designation for signals. So my thoughts: So if a preamp, or a headamp that it is known to invert phase is used along with one of the afored mentioned sources (which inverts phase on the XLR outs,) would we finally achieve "the right phase?" My hesitation comes from the fact that I have read that it is inherently difficult to actually establish or recognize the phase of a recording, as it can vary even from track to track. SO should we even bother to invest any efforts into pursuing the right phase or it really doesn't matter.... I understand that it may be much more critical for speakers and specially subwoofers....but how about for cans. Bueller??
  11. Hey, I agree with Dusty. I just listened to those briefly while chomping down some good cherry pie. They don't suck. And for the money they may as well be as good of a deal as the Koss KSC-35! no kidding.
  12. phew, so that one used 3910 on audiogon all of the sudden doesn't look too bad at $3.2K, heh.... my guess is that it probably sold already..... yes, it probably sold already.... yes, it probably sold already...... yes, it probably sold already......... yes, it probably sold already .... yes, it probably sold already........ yes, it probably sold already....
  13. can't edit over a pda. I meant, specifically to say: an Exemplar denon 3910 with balanced outs on a'gon
  14. actually there is a used 3910 on audiogon now that has balanced outs. @$3.2K
  15. And how much that big brother DAC is going to go for IF you have to ask, you can afford it LOL.... I have heard an Exemplar 2900, it is really sweet sounding.
  16. Yeah, I know, saw that too. That is a sweet deal indeed. I guess I have been hoping to get a modded denon with balanced outs. For that I think I have to go with the 3910. I think they are selling for about twice as more in the used market. Having said that, if I wanted to get a good single ended player, this would be the one to go for on A'gon
  17. Came across this DAC, it was mentioned and is for sale on audiogon. Looks mighty interesting.... http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlconv&1156112132 His modded denon players are really good. I wonder how this dac would sound.
  18. yep, that sounds like a good alternative then. Hey, if you go for it, let us know how you like it!
  19. how'bout current wise though?
  20. tkam, is that a similar alternative to the uber expensive "audiophile" APS units currently selling on audiogon. I am curious....heh I have not received the thing from a couple of posts up. the guy is a slooow shipper. I believe it is just about heading my way now. I'll update once I get it, hopefully it works in my setting. for reference, the only form of power treatment I am using are those ubiquitous moster power strips
  21. Well, I am starting by getting this: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?accspowr&1154992412 I am still considering the Tripp voltage regulator to put in between the wall and that.... any thoughts on the Tripp as a regulator???
  22. Actually, I have been looking into the TrippLite LC1800 myself. The price seems right to me... So, Kevin, is it an OK device then, if one does not need much power? I would only use it in a set up with headphone amps, sources, turntable, phono stage...but no power amp in the rig... Would the isolation transformer be a good idea?
  23. yep, with all the mods that are available on the "internets" sounds like something to try out, heh... I wonder if the same mods can be applied at the other ones, they look really interesting too.. I bet most of the mods can be applied as well. I am curious about the DAC-68, which is based on the 60, but has the balanced outs and goes to 192khz, among a few other changes I think...
  24. does anyone here has any experience with the "other" lite audio dacs (by that I mean other than the well known around here DA-AH). Man there are quite a few of them. There is quite a bit of into on the DAC-60 at audiocircles. Then there is the DAC-68, 38, 39. So offer balanced outs while others only single ended. Anyone heard any of the ones listed??
  25. Hey congrats!! I hope you derive many hours of joy from that TT! The way to go (IMHO) about vinyl is to solely buy used. It can be inspected on the premises for warpness, scratches or even some places will have a decent TT to test for noise level. The ammount of warped records and high background noise I've found in recent producing bands (read current productions) basically has turned me away from buying new. Absolutely crazy. Of course the downside of that is the limited availability of contemporary material.... I really enjoy my TT, but I also agree that it is not for everyone. I guess I am old enough to have actually bought some vinyl when there was only vinyl to be bought. That gave me somewhat more of an acquaintance with the media, I guess. As an aside, my first record ever was "Flick of the switch" by AC/DC
