  1. Actually, as MOT, he should not have posted in that thread to begin with, so.... I still do not comprehend how he sees nothing wrong with all his comments that thread.... is it narcissism?
  2. I don't disagree with anything of what you write. However, all this information is anecdotal and hard to prove. In other words, you know, the owner knows, JL knows what was sent to them and was done to them and where. However, given that the headphones had a different cable when they got to JL, they can argue that bad things had already been done to them (*I am not arguing they were damaged previous to JL, I am just presenting a case here*). So the issue is how to prove irrefutably how the cookie crumbled. That is what I meant.
  3. I think the owner of the R10s is going to have a really hard time on this. The headphones, unfortunately, had been modified by someone else before going to JL. So JL is going to hang tough on attributing all damage to that previous process. It will be hard to prove otherwise, i.e. that the cans were fine before getting to them. I wonder how this thing would have de-convoluted if JL would have received unmanipulated R10s, and the owner would have been able to prove that. Not that I have any cans that need recabling, but even if I had, I'd stay away from JL. Their response is a classic response you'd expect from someone washing their hands and blaming other parties. damn! I have dealed with sellers that have come back with poor behavior like this appears to be, I can imagine the level of frustration.
  4. Congrats on the beast. Regarding the name... when I was a kid, I used to read this comic called: "fantomas, the elegant menace," that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw your title, heh. To boot I believe this is a french comic character. now, no excuse for the pics, you must please us plebes, otherwhise:

    Markl Mods

LOL, cannot say that I didn't see this one coming.... I am thinking of asking for a quote for the price of 1/8th mods, those should then by magic interpolation [~$4500/8], be on the same sonic level of that of the RS1s......
  6. Happy B-Day!
  7. Oh, and yes, Mehran is the man to get ZYX stuff from. Out on a semi-tangent, have you guys heard any of Nami's CDs (mehran's wife). WILD stuff. I like, but I can see it not being everyone's cup of tea, the material. I think there are links for some samples on the website IIRC.
  8. The brake in on my Fuji was even, no appreciable decline in sound quality. Mine is a few years old, with maybe 10-15 hrs a month of use, it still sounds great. Also, it tends to warm up quickly, in my experience it only takes about one side of play to come to full life. I agree on the nice and powerful bass. For headphones is no problem, but for speaker set ups, maybe having that "sub-sonic" filter may be a must.... But that is just a guess. cheers!
  9. Happy B-day Voltron and Smeggy!
  10. How about this as a quick solution?

Are you going to 9:30 show?
  13. ahem, ahemm.....
  14. The last terminator related movie/show/scene I saw-- was hilarious: Fred Savage (playing a sex addict in a movie), enters a bar and goes into "sexinator" mode, starts the "target scanner," after scanning for a bit, finds a target and then searches for a "pick-up line" from an active menu, etc... well done and funny. I remember Savage's delivery of the last line of the scene was funny as well, but I can't remember it....oh well. I only saw the beginning of the first SCCs show, it seemed promising. Look forward to catching up.
  15. Happy B-day!
  16. Great write up! I have a Fuji R100 and I love it. Although the only other cartridge I've had besides that is a Dyna 10X5.. Very interesting regarding the zeroDust tip. That is the only thing I've used to clean it.... hum. Better examine that with a magnifying glass. I'll look into that magic eraser thingy...(any links for this?) I have the so-called "Silver Base" on mine from the start. I presume it helps, but could not argue one way or another as I haven't heard the Fuji w/o the SB. Thanks for sharing, good stuff.

    closed cans!

So got the ATH-W1000 in the mail early this week. They do have a lot of the characteristics of the W2002 sound, but a lot less finesse and resolution IMO. They are airy, yet their highs have that "je ne sais quoi" AT flavor. From memory, I found the L3K had less of it, and that is a good thing. So, the W1000 are not the holy grail in combination with the m902, but not terrible either. I am open to trying something else in the future, but as a close can they are doing the needed job at work...
  19. Happy Birthday, ONCE, TWICE, Thrice!!! Have a great one!!
  20. well you did blow us off that day: IIRC, Hirschizer had his SDS-XLR, ES-1, and other rigs ready for you to listen.....Dusty left that day like the flat was on fire after you called to cancel, heh!

Yep, I should also agree with the point of being able to discern what's going on around it is important! heh. Another plus for the ESWs is the size, either easy to store at work or to lug around.

That is my feeling as well from my brief experience with the ultrasone trackmaster's but I'll keep an open mind. I'll try them out if available at a meet or such. My feeling with the AT is that it is all about synergy.... The L3k was great headphone in my rig. (I just was not using them enough to justify keeping them). The w2002 I do regret selling. They fitted me well. I should probably at least audition the W5000. The AKGs, I shall try in the future, with velvet and everything....

    closed cans!

You know, funny thing about the search of good synergy is that sometimes it is found in places least expected... So last night I decided to whip out of the closet an older pair of Grado SR-325 [with hp-1000 type of drivers/S-UWBR cable]. Well, they sound great out of the m902. This really got me by surprise since in my experience the hp-1000 drivers are really neutral sounding, and so is the m902. So pre-emptively I thought that the combination will sound too neutral (read boring), however, no, not really. This combination has great synergy! That reminded me of Joe Grado saying the Grace was a great headphone amp. So probably he also found this combination to be worthy.... So all and all this is a great finding, albeit doesn't really solves the issue of having a proper headphone to use at work. But anyhow, before you thing that I am crapping my own thread.... there is a connection here: Now I wonder if the W1000, been in the more "dynamic," energetic, treble side, will be too much with the m902. But I guess will know soon

    closed cans!

I am going to give the w1000 a try. I owned the W2002 and I liked them with a MPX3 amp I had at the time. The catch will be on the synergy between the Grace m902, that I use at work, and which ever closed headphone I'll try. So the w1000 is the first one up to the task on round one, , ultrasones will be probably next, if necessary... So, yeah, I've also heard about the 4070 being a very good closed option. But for this project, closed can for the work rig, no electrostats.
