Sure Dusty, I'd be up for listening to them again. For IEMs I am set, have the ue10pros, they are very good, but they actually isolate too much, believe it or not. I can't hear almost any sound from the surroundings. This has its benefits on its own, but not for my work set up. So I am looking for certain isolation (and leakage limitation), but also be able to be aware of the surroundings Yeah, I wish I could be hauling around my qualias to work. They are not worth the risk (too fragile) for a daily commute routine.

the A950ltd sounded rolled on the highs. However, I heard them not on my system, and just for about 5 min.... but that was enough

how would you compare them to the trackmaster 650? [provided you've heard them of course] That is the only ultrasone can I've owned. I felt those sounded really compressed and the highs were really, really rolled. But like I said, been that the only i have heard for an extended period in my system, then it may not be representative of the new breed of ultrasone? Maybe?

Yeah, you guys are right, the denons should be a worthy consideration. The precluding issue for me (and it's why I was not considering them) is that the last time I heard them, they had a weird presentation. Sort of a pronounced 3 blob presentation. A "sombrero" head-stage if you wish. I agree with the tonal balance issue, but it was not unbearable... However, IIRC their sound had tons of good midrange and the sound had good pace. I'll definitely give'em a listen again.

OK, Thanks! I guess forgot to mention that currently available would be better, as vintage comes with a premium and not as easy to get a hold to. from your suggestions: K340 - but these are really hard to drive, IIRC? Also may not be easily available? I am willing to try though, if I can get a hold of a pair... so I'll look into these for sure. K271 - never heard these, so this I will look into for sure as well. Edition 9s - I used to have, many moons ago a pair of Ultrasone trackmaster 750 and really disliked the sound. So I think I'll pass on them... ATH-ESW9 - I'll look into these as well, but wouldn't the W5000 be a better option? just wondering having only heard the W5000.... Thanks for the suggestions guys and will definitely look into the closed AKGs. I had overlooked this cans.

Suggestions for closed headphones Please~? I am looking for "airy*" sounding closed cans to use at work. I have heard the A900, 950LTD and did not quite like'em. I owned the L3K and liked them, but those are somewhat out of budget for this project. W5000 are maybe a possibility (although the last time I heard them was so long ago that my recollection may be completely wrong....). Any other closed cans that should be considered? Suggestions and comments are sought and most welcomed! Thanks! *by this I mean clean highs and sweet midrange
  9. whoa! interesting... I think this is an exciting addition to the amp scene. I am definitely eager to hear more. Hopefully he may be willing to consider building for others? ......That be another option in the market. IMO we are lacking options on the high end of tube amplifiers....
  10. Have a great B-day man!
  11. Nice meet! thanks for the pics. OK, how about more impressions please!!!!!!! I see 3 Cooter amps, is that correct? Comments on configuration, etc... thanks!
  12. Happy B-day! Have a great day!
  13. Nope, regular unbalanced rca from the wand. The two I have, clearaudio symphono and the simaudio http://www.simaudio.com/moonlp53.htm, both seem to take the same approach.
  14. Right on, I am using the 13 ohm ue10s. Like I said before, there is very low level sound once I turn it on, as I change the knob slowly it does not increment, but then once it gets to 9ish, it gets loud giving little room for adjustment on higher level recordings. With higher impedance cans this is a non-issue. Unfortunately for me, the ue10 are my main portable headphones.
  15. Thanks for your input Ed. So far I agree with the non-existing background noise: using my home laptop, the pico is dead quiet, no hiss whatsoever with iems. In contrast the ipod touch has very low, but audible background noise (and I thought it was not that bad). I'll try with a mac tower at work. Hum, bummer then, with my pico switched pot there is this dead vol area that is needed at my listening levels for iems.... One guy on H-F reported incremental vol from the "on" point. I wonder if there is variability among individual pots that could yield this results. I did write Justin, maybe he can find one that can provide adjustment closer to the on position...
  16. question: I don't get any change in volume until I reach about 9ish. Anyone else experience this or this unit has a deffective volume pot? It would not bother me otherwise, but at this point (9ish), it can already be on the louder side for some sensitive iems.
  17. Happy Birthday! have a good one
  18. Thanks! It was a great day indeed. I need to visit H-F again tonight. Thanks for the wishes over there as well
  19. happy B-day Jay! have a great day
  20. thanks guys and gals, I had a very good b-day I appreciate all the good wishes )
  21. Thanks guys!
  22. If you'd like to get your feet wet with the tube amps, I'll say the earmax pro is a very good start. I have heard it with all the headphones in your list and it ranges from good to very good match with most of the headphones listed. pros: very small size and easy to tube roll. good example of what tubey amps sound like. negs: not as nuanced and resolving as other amps. could be too tubey-sounding, but that could be remedied by tube rolling.

    Happy Turkey Day

    Happy Thanksgiving! Green-bean casserole, yeepee!
  24. Beely, good grief....... because I was thinking the other two. Man, those legs on the last on the right and the rack on the second from the left.... But, of course, this is just kidding they are way too young for my age, and more importantly , I am, well, taken.
