  1. Well, my GMT has started running -20 sec/day.  It was running -2, previously..  It's not magnetized (I had it demagnetized at a local jeweler I trust, who has a real demagnetizer, and not the $20 Chinese one I have), and it hasn't been knocked, or dropped, or abused in any other way.  I guess it goes back to California.  The service was warrantied, and I'm absolutely sure it will be taken care of, but I'm having some bad watch luck, of late.

I’m not interested in dealing with cleaning up after that

I take it you've never used a wok to deep fry, then, as there is very little.  The shape of the wok, and the seasoning on a good carbon wok, means that you use very little oil, it doesn't splatter outside of the wok, and the oil slides right out when you're done.

I'm not interested in deep fried wings, so I'm good with Grawk's version.

I take it that you don't like wings at restaurants, then.

  3. I think this might be the first time I've really smoked the autograph (I think I've smoked a few partials).  Man, it's a good smoker (cool, perfect draw, complex flavor, stays lit, dry to the bottom of the bowl), and this aged Old Dublin is very nice.

  4. Not quite yet, but in a few minutes I'll be smoking some Peterson Old Dublin that has been aging for about a decade in my humidor (and boy does it smell good!) out of my Savinelli Autograph.  I sure miss all those pipes that were stolen, but I guess I smoke a pipe infrequently enough that it's not a big deal, one way or another (I still have a very nice Parker and another Savinelli, from the 60s).

  5. As of today, forever after, I will save myself $10 per jacket taken-in, as I have figured out how to correctly redo the vent overlap and crease, so that the vent flaps lie correctly.  It takes all of maybe 5 minutes, and that includes the time it takes the iron to heat up. I totally understand why it's not included in having a jacket taken-in (and, I'd assume, let-out; the issue is probably the same, just opposite), as it's a nice little profit center. Of course, that $20 includes a full press and crease, but I have a good steamer and iron, so the vent work was what I was really paying for.

All this Ayre talk prompted me to pick up a used QB-9 DSD. Now, I have to hijack the thread with a question: while it seems to work fine, and sounds good, there is an audible buzz coming from the transformer. It's not loud enough to really hear over my PC fans when the computer's on, but when it's off, and the DAC is on standby, the buzz is audible. It's also audible if I put my ear close to it. Is this something I should worry about? I've yet to open it up and take a poke around, but given that I know nothing it'll be about as useful as dissecting myself to figure out why my stomach hurts. However there are 2 screws in the center of the base plate that are missing, I guess I'll see what they should be holding down and if that might be contributing to this.

Assuming that the screws in the baseplate were holding something down that would otherwise vibrate, you may just be able to wedge something under said component, depending on what it is.
