  1. The amp is only putting out about 20ma assuming a KG design, not to sure about stax. Even with all that voltage all you will get is an annoying zap. Just to give you an idea of how little current that is, 20ma is less than we normally use for temporary pacemakers in cardiac surgery and those leads go directly into the myocardium of the heart to regulate the beat. We typically use 50% higher voltage to start and go up from there..

  2. Getting most of our snow late in the year again. Over 12" last night; I guess construction on our new back yard will be delayed. Got to love the randomness of the Sierras. The Donner party would be proud, maybe..

This is what I hate most about what has become of the hobby. Farming out beta testing to initial adopters has gotten way out of hand, and apparently because the adopters are totally willing. It's one thing to have a focus group, but it's another to have paying customers agree or even not agree to becoming de facto beta testers for products that are barely out of proof-of-concept.

I have no problem with this as long as it is explicitly stated that is not a final product and this is effectively testing. Then it's on a fully informed consumer to take that on if they feel the price is fair.

I have an issue when companies release a "finished" product when it really isn't and then use early adopters to test before releasing an updated or v2 shortly after. That imo is fraudulent, and way too much of it has been happening.

  4. I had no idea they would make it compatible. I figured they would want to lock you into their amp.

In the event that the impressions continue to come back negative I hope at some point they get plugged into a known good amp so we can know for sure what the headphones can or cannot do.

Sennheiser and MSB already smashed all records on that

Yea, it has take some time but 2 channel pricing insanity is fully into the headphone market. But your BHSE and Spritzers Carbon remain arguably the best performing options out there and both are priced rationally. I hope that the two of you can continue to provide that balance.

  6. They have been selling those pads for some time. I assume that is because they are interchangeable with the rest of their ether  pads.

Maybe these would be a good option.

They also made this comment.' I thought it was the other way around.

"The efficiency is considerably better than early prototypes, it's now better than the 009 but a bit less than the 007."

First off fuck Jude and head-fi, if you really want a good reception for your electrostats, talk to folks who are very intimate with e-stat gear, Birgir (aka spritzer), Kevin and Wachara, if you pass the test and take on feedback for any constructive criticism (feedback) from them, then I'm sure people will like what they will hear. Before any of this happens, you have to cut the bullshit first followed by facts.

Though I have to be honest, the headphones do look kind of cheaply designed and built.

Spritzer may seem to be very abrasive at first. But look at what he had to say about the phenomenon libratum on its thread here. He was actually quite complementary about the sound signature. And measured in his criticism of day to day design issues.

He is less measured when fan boys declare it the best thing since sliced bread. That's more on the fan boys than the headphone but may not come across was such.

  8. I went back and forth with which to get between the yggy and the spring dac. Ultimately the upgrade-ability got me to go with the yggy. I have been frustrated at times when I wanted a high res album but because the rights were Sony.. So DSD  only.

But with this analog upgrade and usb gen 5, for me having to stick with CD quality in those cases is less of an issue. Because upgrade-itis means if holo released a new dac next year I would be attempting to sell my current and purchase the new one.

Wish I could have multiples of equipment, but I have too many hobbies requiring significant investment.

    Also I'm lazy fwiw.

How about that, folks, a 180 Watt Passive pre-amp.................

Hey you could get there.. just do a normal passive preamp and stick the Megatrons tube complement on top and run the heaters. I mean it would look pretty? right

Edit:: OMG I just started imagining the tube rolling options..
