  1. There is room for a second S22, the toroid is external.
  2. Well, yeah, one running my dyanamics, one with my stats in them. People seem to think it'd overheat the S22 regulators or whatever.
  3. Piccy of setup
  4. For the moment I have the beta and the EHHA amps, two boards each but only one Sigma. Until I get another sigma they are going to share. The sigma has four outputs, enough for the boards. Now, if I want to run both amps together is there any reason not to? I can switch on the heaters before the amps to warm up the EHHA. Any problems so far? Not ideal but I'm not worried about ideal at this point, just functionality. There's also the option of running the sigma output pairs through switches to turn one or the other pair off. Any thoughts on the best and safest way to do this or is what I suggested first fine?
  5. Never let the truth get in the way of a good marketing campaign.
  6. It's great to see this finally taking shape. You guys are great!
  7. Looking good! Nice to see pics
  8. As far as I can make out, It's basically to do with the Beta potentially becoming unstable with inductive loads like some speakers present and a zobel is like a signal bleed and load stabilizer for awkward speaker loads. I want to run transformers and didn't know if they presented a potentially destabilizing inductance like speakers can and if so would a zobel network suffice as protection. It's a very basic thing, only two parts.
  9. I want moar bias as moar is always better. Have you plugged it into anything and made noise, that's what we really wanna know.
  10. .....erm, more infos pls.
  11. Happy buffday
  12. And did anyone notice how the Wilson Alexandria looks like me? Add an eye stalk, egg whisker and a toilet plunger and we'd almost look like twins!
  13. apparently he can't come to terms with the fact that he's a money grubbing sheister dealing in pseudo science and BS
  14. Bah!! smeggy starts looking for 24" cases...
  15. it does have much better stock bass than the sr-x and is very nice and smooth. It's been a while since I listened and it is very refreshing from the beta.
  16. Ack, that's a scary thought. Been playing with the Beyers today, still like them a lot
  17. x2 Tannoy did make some odd stuff back in the day but I don't think they ever made their own phones.
  18. I will install the zobel, where is not decided yet. I still have a way to go before finalizing all the stuff in there, the Dyna boards still have to go in whenever they're done and I also wanted to put the Stax and Sony adapters inside the case. I'll have to see what's actually practical though as I measure it all out. it is a big-ass case.
  19. I haven't added it, I do have the parts on order though. In the meantime I was shunting straight through. I love the sound but don't want to kill my baby so until I hear back from amb with whatever sage advice he may (or may not) offer, I'll hold off the 'stats for now. Just got a reply from Ti IME it should work fine, but I have not personally tried doing that. Zobel is recommended, no other protection should be necessary. -Ti
  20. Yeah, the amp does drive the 'stats beautifully but I am still a little concerned. I know a couple of people drive the boxes from betas like Topedo and Kai. It seems to be fine on mine too but I really don't know enough of the technicalities to ensure I won't do damage. Maybe it's time to see if amb will chip in and advise.
  21. As a temp measure I've just soldered a 1/4" jack to my srd-7 and am running it from the headphone socket as the full 18wpc goes there anyway so it's getting the signal right off the boards.
  22. so you think stax boxes are potentially that dangerous to the amp? Hmm. Is there anything you know of that would work as a plug in solution and not be too involved for a dummy like me. I've never heard of anyone using more than a zobel for these so I'm no even sure what I'm looking for. A quick Google search doesn't show anything that looks useful.
  23. Question for the 'stat techies, any idea what kind of load a stax transfo box presents to an amp? The Beta 22 needs the zobel network for speakers inductive loads, but do transfo boxes present this type of load as well? Basically I'm asking if it's safe to run the transfo boxes (stax, Koss, sony) without a zobel and avoid instability. I'm already doing so by plugging the box into the headphone socket and it works and sounds great but will stop if it's potentially harmful and get the bits for the zobel. BTW, the Beyer ET sounds damn nice from it!
  24. Mmmm, tasty I'm very jealous of your skills and know-how.
