I have come across another one that I just don't get.

I was listening to the podcast - Mayim Bialik's Breakdown - and she was interviewing Eric Hutchinson - and I was like, who? - and she was like fawning all over him and the 15th anniversary of his album Sounds Like This - and I was like, I don't think I know that one - and she was like, I could write a thesis on this song - and I was like, I got to listen to this album.

    thx TIDAL:

    Example:

    Nah...... 🤷‍♂️

So, this fell into the Ed Sheeran big question mark in my head from before. I don't really get it, there was nothing really there, There was so much hand clapping, ooo ooo's, vocal doubling, etc. Is it just sing along music, like for kids? It had a little bit of a Jason Mraz feel, but I like Jason.

I am not sharing as a recommendation, but more of a question. Am I the only one that does not get it?

    Okay I will share one thing, just to prove I listened to the end and that there was some things that I enjoyed. There was a Beatles like tune - It Hasn't Been Long Enough, that was listenable. And the last 30 seconds of the last song had a killer subtle bass line in it. {should be queued up - but 3:31 starting}

I had to look it up. Oh, Chris Chaney, you know, Jane's Addiction great bass player!, Chris. I have to say that it was a good way to end an album.

Adding Nothing's Shocking to my playlist - thanks Eric.

I got nothing.  It's actually a really nice song, but it's obviously lyrics oriented, and I'm not a lyrics listener, so...

    I got nuthin'.

(My life's too short for me to give it much more effort than one listen.  Sorry.)

So, I was thinking about listening to some new prog.

So, I added a few things released this year to my playlist.

So, I might have bit off a bit more than I can chew.

So, I will let y'all know.

Thanks for posting that, didn't realize Riverside had a new one.  Going to listen to it now soon.

Fauna is great, though.  I think I like it even better than Virus.

I might have to raid that chart for ideas, myself, I'm about ready to get back into something else other than my comfort music.

Jumping in here - I'm using a Grace/massdrop m9xx, and TBH I'm happy enough with it. (It's just used as a DAC, I don't have any dynamic HP's these days)
I have some upgrades to my other gear incoming - a SRM-006ta from Birgir (modded) and some '007 mk2s.
I'm listening to digital files from PS via USB.

Am I missing out on much with my current DAC? I've been through this thread and most the recommendations are more than I want to spend at the moment.
Is there something that would be much better (and maybe have balanced output) for < $600 USD?

Sounds like you have G.A.S. for the sake of G.A.S.  Grace is a good company, feel free to stick with that...unless you feel like you're actually missing something.  And in that case, you may want to make sure there's impedance matching between components.

Other than the Schiit line of gear, I don't know what DACses are popular any more.  (I don't have one, myself, though, so it might just be that they have a memorable name.)

Catching up a bit on the notables. I have of course been listening to music, but just not posting. So a few things I liked.

    Example:

So to answer the question, do we need another Beatles tribute album? AbsaFuckingLootly.

When it is our Friend Al. It is more like you are just sitting down with him and he is just jamming and picking on some Beatles tunes. Which I guess he is. Very enjoyable. And not too many demands on the royal ear.

    Example:

Need some 70's rock in a modern package? Have I got a deal for you. New to me, and I want to explore. Pretty straight forward, other than some monster works that rock hard.

    Reckless

    Reckless
    Morgan Wade

    Example:

I first heard Morgan in December, and I was hooked on her voice. Well her first album backed that up. Strong vocals, and some powerful messages. There are a few more mainstream in there, but it was a rewarding album.

Okay think that I am caught up. - Back to listening.

Thank you for continuing sharing your impressions.

I’ll check that out. I do have Realms, which I like a lot, and Death Spells, which hadn’t clicked the same way.  But I’ll remedy that ASAP.

Oh, okay, at least you're already familiar with them.  They got more gazey, but while retaining the metal.
