  1. I was thinking of how I now see different amp builders these days and the biggest red flag for me is when there are several rabid fans who enter every thread and defend ceaselessly.  Cavalli has NoNoNoNoNoNo and dbel, mikhail had several, RSA has a few.  The companies without rabid/annoying fans are Headamp, EC, ECP, in my opinion, and these are the ones to choose from.  EC does have build issues though.

Besides the annoying fans of Cavalli, his prices are ridiculous....another Mikhail waiting to happen...

  2. Tyll, I personally know Mike & Marv, nice guys, and have had a mini meet with them and their preference for warmer stuff pervades that site IMO...

Not saying that is bad, but it is a preference to which I do not subscribe.  So, no Cavalli, RSA stuff for me.  One of them told me, can't remember who, that they listen to mostly 80's music, and pop, if I remember correctly, so that may explain why 90% of the things they listen to are "harsh".

  3. Gosh, I guess i am in the minority, or don't listen to strident music like others do, but I like the 800s just the way they are.  Seems like a thick/syrupy sound preference is the religion they are preaching at changstar.

  4. So I have been buying full bags of green beans (60 kg - 132 lbs) for roasting for about 6 years now.  The price is great at that quantity.  Recently, I have been trying to sell a bit of the bag at cost so I can have more variety with our beans.  We go through a bag on our own in about 6 months.

I was wondering if there is anybody roasting here who would be interested in buying some beans?  If you don't roast, let me suggest that this is a fun hobby and saves money in the long run.  There is nothing like fresh roasted coffee.

If there is interest, maybe I will start a new thread??

Right now I have two partial bags:

Colombian Supremo Huila Valencia @ $2.93/lb plus shipping and minor costs like paypal, supplies.

    and

    Ethiopian Yirgacheffe G2 SpecialPrep @ $3.68/lb  "                 "

Anyone interested?  I could go as low as 2 lbs. but would prefer to do 5 lbs.  More is ok too.

  5. This morning I turned on the kgsshv, and nothing. Blew a fuse.

Put in another fuse and it fired right up.......with a faint buzzing coming from the transformer.

Then the smell of magic smoke accompanied with substantial heat rising from the toroid.

Seems like my SumR piece of shit has a short. angry.gif

Oh well, I have yet to tear into it and form a plan of action.

I'll just fire up my itty-bitty Stax amp and experience bliss without the bass. biggrin.gif

FWIW, Previously I did order from SumR, the beefier (100ma?) trafo spec that Spritzer mentioned.

I think that I may head to ebay and pick up a cheap Hammond dual 500 volt job and be done with it.

I have a 15VDC Sola brick (ala the original kgss) that I will be using in addition for the low-v stuff.

Same thing just happened on my HV. My specs were the lesser ones (65VA, 70ma on the hv windings). This is my fourth SumR transformer to blow on the HV winding (3 from the T2). Pissing me off now.

Did you end up with a Hammond livewire? SumR has replaced all my other transformers basically for free (had to send a few back).
