  1. This stuff is like powder. Calibrated to 5 clicks away from chirping. Thinking I might go a bit more so I have usable range for cold brew.
  2. Ordered and received the SSP burrs from Fellow a few days ago. Was trying to see if I could do anything different/else before installing them. Pre-SSP, what were you grinding at for pour over Reks?
  3. 45g water, wait 45 seconds for bloom 45g water, wait 30 seconds after every pour Ode at 1.5 with the above recipe has produced the best cup so far.
  4. Come to think of it, the best cup so far has been with the ode grinding at 1.5. my drawdown times were longer (4 minutes-ish) so I started grinding coarser. Usually around 1:15 or 1:16 for coffee to water. The only time it got bitter was when I went 1:13 or so.
  5. I've gotten into coffee again and so far have been maintaining a healthy relationship with it this time around. Primarily, I've been cold brewing with coffee ground at 10 on the Fellow Ode in one of these. Over the past few months, I've gotten to the point where I can agree with the tasting notes for the most part and taste the stuff I ought to be tasting. With a V60, however, it all tastes the same regardless of what adjustments I make. Varied grind size from 0 to 6 on the Ode. Varied water temperature on a Fellow Stagg EKG kettle. Maybe on a random occasion I might get distant hints of something familiar but I feel it's likely because I want it to be there instead of actually tasting it. Any thoughts from the brewmasters?
  6. Was it recorded, Jim? Would love to watch/listen to it.
  7. I don't know if a rodecaster pro would fit your needs. It is $99 out of your budget and quite a versatile device. Not enough gain for my mic so it is going back to B&H but I'd imagine you could do most of if not all of what you are trying to do.
  8. I use texmaker and a 13" screen often leaves me wanting for a bigger screen. I've gotten to the point where I don't like using my laptop when using LaTeX. I've tried reducing the font size but that rarely helps. If you are not using a pdf viewer to look at your document, the 13" will likely be fine. If it is mostly going to be used locally, go for the 16". Buyer beware, however - https://www.tomsguide.com/opinion/the-16-inch-macbook-pro-has-a-major-quality-control-problem
  9. I have no doubt it is possible. The IT dolts refuse to do it. To them, OS X goes on a Mac and Windows goes on a PC. Anything else and they stick their heads back in the sand.
  10. Can't do that. Institutional guidelines for computers storing data for NSF projects say clean windows install on a PC that can be remotely wiped in case of theft/loss. IT won't install windows or let me do it on a Mac.
  11. Greetings from South Florida! Would anyone be interested in a mint condition 2018 13" MacBook Pro (2.3 ghz i5 quad core, 8gb ram, 256 gb ssd) with Touch Bar (space gray)? AppleCare+ until 08/21/2021. Figured I'd try here before I went to eBay and the likes. Currently has the Catalina beta but I can take it back down to the last stable release upon request. Comes with all the original box/papers. Grant work requires me to go back to a windows device
  12. https://www.stressless.com/en/stressless-recliners/stressless-nordic/nordic-classic Ekornes makes some truly fabulous stuff. I sat in one of these and have never sat in anything nicer.
  13. I just leave a webcam pointed in the general direction of areas I didn't want the cleaning staff to go to. Caught one of the staff doing something they weren't supposed to and the security office was thankful I sent them the video clip. I just leave it plugged into my desktop the whole time and delete the video the following day. Take a a few seconds to scrub through the video as the cleaning staff only ever show up in my office over a 20 minute window.
  14. Old PC from 2013 is giving up the ghost. This is what I have parted out but quite honestly I have not kept up with any hardware developments. Thoughts? I know I am missing a graphics card - plan on using my old gtx 760 until the prices of gfx cards become somewhat sane. https://secure.newegg.com/Wishlist/SharedWishlistDetail?ID=NCiXPaja6pg%3d&&cm_mmc=snc-email-_-sr-_-wishlist-NCiXPaja6pg%3d-_-06/11/2018
  15. Purchased another mic. Got a code for the game included with the mic. Free to the first person that pm's me. Instructions on the back say windows only.
  16. Is a hackintosh on the table? Best bang for buck I've found. I can still use osx without paying Apple prices. Doesn't work out of the box or as seamlessly as an actual apple product but saves a considerable amount of money. I am running one from 4 years ago and it still runs like a champ. The processor (i7 - 4770) is starting to show its age while encoding videos but more or less it is still quite good. I doubt I would get a significant boost for an insignificant increase in cost.
  17. Flew in to San Francisco for my sister's pa school white coat ceremony at Berkeley. Flying out tomorrow. She has worked extremely hard and was given the academic award for having the highest gpa in didactics. Extremely proud of her. Wish I had more time. The city looks great fun.
  18. I had indeed gone through some financially troubling times and was trying to raise money for something else when the amp Doug had built for me was on the chopping block but I am glad I was not able to sell it. My requirements were very similar to yours and I was elated with what Doug sent me. I perhaps had the opposite issue - my hearing is/was too sensitive. I heard the noise/hiss from the equipment in the background even at low volumes. I tried the pico slim as well but still had that pervasive hiss in the background. I think for anyone who doesn't have the absurd ears I do, it would make for a great amp. My personal experience with Doug leads me to make the same suggestion purk made - convince Doug to make you something. I gave him my requirements and he came up with the gorgeous looking piece of kit and works better than it looks.
  19. Was turning left on a green light when a lady driving a huge SUV hit me square on the driver side. Jumped out of her car and yelled, " oh my god! I didn't know there was a light there. I didn't see it!" Paramedics and police arrived and her story changed to "he jumped a red light." 3 police officers couldn't find any witnesses but out of nowhere someone yelled, "whatever the lady is saying is correct." Apparently, this was enough for the crash investigator to determine that I was the one at fault and gave me 2 tickets. My few month old Civic is likely totaled. The lady is/was visiting from Puerto Rico, driving a rental car without any identification and denied having a cell phone even though she was the first one to call 911...The police crash report only has her address in PR on it with no other information. I am not sure how the Police just let her off the hook and blamed everything on me. There are two cameras pointed straight at the intersection but the police department says they are only for determining light cycles. When I asked them why the lights need a camera if they are on a timer, I have been hung up on twice after essentially being threatened to drop the matter and just pay the fine if I don't want things to get worse. Fuck Florida.
  20. Built ikea furniture. Installed this by myself today. Was a royal pain in the ass. Metal studs and toggle bolts are no fun. Came out looking quite nice though. Finished tile and paint on the place a while back. Thought about doing the kitchen next but thankfully time and money have both run out. The tv mounts go up tomorrow. Everything needs to be done by the end of the month as Julie and the kids need to be able to move in there might need to hire someone to help for the next couple of days.
  21. 3 channel system for the bedroom. 3 channel system for the living room. Floorstanders go in the bedroom first. If they don't perform well there, then they go to the living room.
