No worries, if the price you paid isn't a screaming bargain it's the real thing for sure. That's the other detail helping to spot fakes, the prices are always too good to be true. Moreover it'd be a new strategy of those scammers selling the gear directly from the destination country and not from China or any other far East country.
I didn't want to make you concerned, just kidding a bit. The picture showing such mint unit brought the idea into my mind, but I don't think those chinese copiers have gone this far yet.

...
Are the Chinese copying AR stuff now?
...
I'm very afraid they are. I saw on Ebay one of those stores based in China selling "Audio Research-like" cases for electronics projects. The damn case was as a perfect reply of an AR as it can be, but for the AR brand prints. I guess that making the whole thing won't cost them very much and there's a lot of profit in it for them
Hopefully yours is the real deal, I don't think they'd go as far as faking the serial number plate, using as good quality connectors as your pics show, and having all the bolts perfectly flat and minty. I guess you can catch the fakes on those details.

It could well be the effect of the Gilmore on the L3000. In my system the L3000 (SE stock cable) show righter bass with the Gilmore Balanced Ref (as far as I know a GS-X with boutique parts, external PS, but not dramatically different) than with the Rudi. It's easily and quickly noticeable.

Open it up!
To discover it's a chinese copy? No way

^ Same here, just finished listening the DCC remaster

Yeah, it's a weird little superstition I've developed -- if everyone misses my birthday, then I don't age that year.
I haven't been able to test it yet, though -- not a single birthday has passed that someone hasn't wished me happy birthday.
LOL You won't cheat the time going by. However it must be nice trying Good luck this year.

No, the date got reset to some sort of default, also. Mine was a couple months ago -- I don't celebrate it.
I can understand though
-
So you're the only one celebrating a birthday? Have a great one mate!!!!!

You may also wish to try kuboTEN a very reliable service to purchase goods directly from Japan. I've recently bought replacement earpads for my CD3000 and R10. Flawless transaction. BTW, the pads for CD3000 are the same than for CD1000.

Happy New Year. Stay cool and safe my friends

Really? Fuck you
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

If you like a sound tending to "mechanical" it's a great arm for that, but if your preferences are more of an "organic" sound, then I'd try to spot some vintage 3009 S2 NOT improved.

You know what I think you're right Sorry about that! I had been convinced (by myself) of what you were saying and then convinced the other way (again by myself) but with your mental picture I think you've settled it in my head Sorry again that was dumb of me :palm:.
I still think it's a measurement artifact though since the difference is on the order of the 6dB that occurs when you go from balanced to SE. That and when I did the tests it didn't show up. The floor was actually a little higher for balanced because each amp was working at a lower gain and hence the noise floor of the amp was at a higher level.
hehehe, when you made your comment I thought you were right, but then I tried to imagine the picture of the driver working fed by a balanced signal, and I realized that what it was doing is actually converting the balanced signal in SE motion, so the common mode noise is probably rejected.
I think it's very difficult to make valid conclusions from those measurements. You could be also measuring the noise difference from balanced to SE into the own amplifier or even the source if they're using SE or balanced outputs from the generator. Your take about the noise floor being lower for having a doubled voltage signal seems quite valid as far as the noise voltage doesn't get doubled too. If it's common mode noise, I'd expect it to be lower nonetheless.
How is output impedance on the amp affected by using SE or balanced outs? My guess is that it's higher, so you'd be lowering the damping factor, which could have audible and measurable effects. Funnily enough on our measurements on the HD600 we didn't notice any change on impulse response nor in the bass response.

Happy B-day Jacob. Nice to see the kids growing

Mmmm trying to imagine the picture of one leg pushing at the driver while the other is pulling and having a noise spike with the same polarity on both legs, my take is that it's cancelling itself. Wouldn't it?
-
probably just a test artifact, especially regarding the isolation test. the cups can't be positioned exactly the same each time. i'm not terribly surprised that balancing phones lowers the noise floor.
Yep, balanced operation is used mainly to reduce noise, so no surprises here.

Thanks mate, looks nice, but a bit expensive. I'll investigate it.

If you like the Leica lenses and cameras, check out Panasonic cameras. They use Leica lenses and often you can find the exact same camera for a lot less. You just can't mind it being labeled "Panasonic" rather than "Leica".
Very true, thanks for the reminder, I've seen some of their Lumix small cameras displaying the Leica logo... I'll check them, they might have a model which is the size and versatility of the M8. I love adjusting the camera the old style, without having to run through uncountable menus and submenus. Just choose the ISO then combine speed and diaphragm by rotating two wheels to get the desired depth of field or quickness for moving objects, and decide if you want some over or underexposure. Clean, clear and fast.
What are you listening to Part Two
