  1. Been testing recent builds of Audirvana and Decibel. Without doing extensive testing, I was enjoying Audirvana since several RAM playback changes. Unfortunately, they now handle sample rates kinda differently. "Upsampling" on/off in Decibel adjusts based OS setting (off leaves as OS), Audirvana on track (I believe this has changed over time - have asked developer, but not heard back). So OS at 44.1 with track 96 in off positions will product 44.1 output in Decibel and 96 in Audirvana. Audirvana gives nice 'only 2x/4x' and 'maximum upsampling' options (Decibel just 'for best quality'), but effectively eliminates the downsampling capabilities - not so great for those of us with 16/20-bit DACs. So ideally, I'd be using Audirvana (which also happens to be the free option), but not with how sample rates are currently adjusted (no 'true' off). For those with 24-bit DACs I'd consider Audirvana. Never tried Fidelia. EDIT: Just got notified of an Audirvana update. Will retest the above (have to move DACs around), but beautiful new interface. DOUBLE EDIT: Downloaded Fedelia. Audirvana still has the missing downsample functionality (if you consider it a missing feature - may be a plus depending on what it avoids in CoreAudio). Fidelia joins Decibel in allowing OS X midi control.
  2. I moved from a personal 64GB to a work 32GB (selling the 64) and it was basically seemless, with little/no modifications with how I handled file updating, etc. Then again I stream a lot. Currently 16GB in apps and so same available for M4Vs, ALACs, FLACs, etc. EDIT: That 16GB for apps includes in-app files like FLACs in FLAC Player.
  3. Latest NYTimes piece. Seems some evidence mounting with worker exposure, etc.
  4. Shit did Paul Thurrott almost give the iPad 2 a positive review [cached - currently down]?

  6. AKG K340s from a local seller. Not sure why, as I've never liked them, but rumor is their production variance is large and I got them on the cheap.

  17. Well, finally over the illness to give the 53rd refit of the JH13s a close listen and the balance issue has been resolved [cue: Leonard Cohen 'hallelujah']. Nice to listen straight ahead and overall it's a very nice sound. I'm pretty sure the soundstage has simultaneously shrunk (both in size and 'closed' sounding/feeling). Is that because things are now aligned as intended or another quirk of the fit I'm not sure, but it's a trade off I'm willing to make. Will say after hearing the same pair in so many different states I really would recommend taking all comments about JHA, or possibly any custom, IEMs with a bolder of salt because I'm really unsure if any of us are hearing the same thing. I still have a JH3A + JH16 on order and will make some comments in comparison when they arrive, but don't know the use to others. If you order either I'm not sure you'll get anything similar. So easy to disrupt detail, tone, separation, etc. and the margin of error inside ears must be pretty small. Thank you evolution.

On Thursday, “sometime between 1:23 and 1:38 p.m. Pacific time,” Mr. Lynch, the celebrated “Twin Peaks” creator and director of films like “Mulholland Drive,” will reintroduce davidlynch.com as a digital music store and “sensory experience.” There will be sound experiments from the past (some unreleased from his film and television projects) and new music. http://tinyurl.com/4j48hkc
