Sabre32 9018 and why is it so great?
I'm not sure about how my observation is going to be relevant with Audio-gd's Sabre offerings, which I'm highly interested with actually, but the Twisted Pear Buffalo24 that I've heard some time back didn't really wow me. I'm not sure how I'd describe this DAC as it's very technically competent so it has no problems with details and extension and all that jazz but to borrow Monkey's words from the other site, it seems to lack "immediacy and impact" or in my words, soul. It's also very sterile sounding. As expected, the DAC didn't really stay that long with my friend and he ended up selling it to some bloke in Head-Fi. When I asked why he ended up with that decision, he said that the Sabre-based DAC "has zero ambience" which takes away all the fun in his music and so, off it goes. Well, take that 0.2 cents as you will.

Where to point the finger of blame
Overemphasizing details is the DACMagic specialty so... And combined with the 404LE's rather brash upper mid so...

The Headcase Stax thread
Thanks for the responses, guys. It doesn't help things when I just got the notification to pay from Audez'e which I almost forgot since it has been a while. I seem to prefer the LCD2 to the Lambdas but not the O2. I think I'll try the LCD2 for the time being and see how well it plays with the Beta22. If they still don't please me, I will go for the full Stax Omega route.

Blackberry?
Budi, I remember a friend complaining that he didn't want to get a BB because he could not use the excuse of "Sorry, I haven't read your E-mail" no more.

The Headcase Stax thread
Well, long story short there is an O2 MK1 on sale in my local headphone forum and I'm seriously, very seriously tempted to sell my dynamic stuff to fund it. Could the SRM-1/MK2 drive it while I wait until the DIY KGSS-HV is ready?

Audeze LCD-2
The HE6 sounds amazing, especially in the treble area, but the poor imaging really bugged me after a while. I think I can live with a darker treble (LCD2) rather than a disjointed sound (HE6).

The Headcase Stax thread
Wise words,Senor Budi. I don't think the O2 has an imaging problem myself and in fact I tend to agree with Spritzer over there what with the fact that you can focus better with a smaller and more realistic soundstage. I am just curious what the folks here would think and even better if there is a technical reason why Stax images better (or doesn't) , that's all. Thanks for the response anyway, Spritzer and forbigger.

The Headcase Stax thread
Dear Stax Mafioso, I'm just looking for your opinions. Recently there is a growing consensus in my local circle that the Stax, particularly the Omega2 MK2, doesn't image as well as the top dynamic headphones such as the T1 or HD800. I would have tested this personally but during my time of auditioning the O2 MK1 and MK2, I didn't have those two cans handy for a direct comparison. So, what do you Stax seniors think? Is it by chance, could be related how the diaphragms are constructed and positioned?

Grado HF-2 thread
I adore the HP2 (that's the same as HP1000 right?) but their price really doesn't justify them nowadays IMHO.

Audeze LCD-2
I can provide impressions with the Gilmore Lite once I've received mine...

Grado HF-2 thread
I wish I have the chance to hear the so-called classic RS1. You know, the one with pink button? I always wonder how it sounds in relation to the more normal RS1. I agree with your assessment of the RS1 but I guess I got too pampered with HF2's bass. Guitar string sounds amazing with the RS1 though. Welcome to HC.

Grado HF-2 thread
I still have mine. This is as good as a Grado can get IMHO and greatly prefer the HF2 compared to the PS1000.

Congratulations, Whale! If the humble Lambda can impress you so much, I wonder how the Omega will do.

Audeze LCD-2
I also have to note that the production HE-6 is goddamned heavy. Clamping-wise, it's kinda similar to HD600/650 to give you an idea on how the fit will go. I wonder what's stopping them from adapting Stax's wonderful headband design... Take one for the team!

Audeze LCD-2
I've heard the HE-6 (production) last weekend and I'm pretty impressed. I've never heard a treble like that before where it has the right combination of presence, details and smoothness and I'm also fairly certain that it's better than the O2 MK1 and MK2 in this area which I had heard two weeks prior to that. O2's treble is also incredibly detailed but sometimes I felt that it lacks the presence that certain music will benefit from. Too bad that the soundstage incoherency, which I had mentioned in the ortho thread here, still persists even with the latest batch of HE6. Can't wait to compare it with the LCD-2 when it arrives.

2010 RMAF/CJ@RMAF
Interesting, a milk stout... I thought only the Germans produced the finest liqueur but it seems that I have to visit your country sometime just to taste what America has to offer in the alcoholic department.

Are they going to showcase the JH3A unit again in the RMAF? I'm rather interested in that actually.

I sort of want a pair of good closed phones
Actually padam, that headphone had had me interested for a while but I couldn't find it in the local Sennheiser distributor. Is it supposed to be an ancient NOS unit or something?

Ultrasone Special Edition 10s. $2750 MSRP
Trust me, the Ultrasone is much worse. The Proline 750 along with the HFI-580 and HFI-780 rank there as the worst headphones that I've ever had the pleasure to hear. I still don't understand why they have to make the treble and bass sound like that... The Denons don't get much love around here but I thought the D7000 sounds acceptable as a closed headphone.

Wyred 4 Sound (ESS Sabre) DAC
It's always interesting to note how the PerfectWave seems to be so well received around here considering it has a supposedly inferior Sigma-Delta chip (WM8741) in its heart.
-
Wyred 4 Sound (ESS Sabre) DAC
Alles klar. I guess it's an add-on with the DAC-1 but bundled with the DAC-2.

Wyred 4 Sound (ESS Sabre) DAC
Eric, did you get the asynchronous USB add-on with your DAC-2?
