  1. Debated about bumping this since there's probably no interest, but I'm being irrational tonight. I have the Wood-Technology 8" stands Fungi linked to in post #1, and can vouch for 'em. The black finish is actually pretty decent on them; I've seen them going for cheap lately in a few places so's I didn't expect much. Figure most of you would probably go the DYI route, but these aren't bad for the price if you don't want to do any woodworking of your own. 8" is just about perfect to get the tweeters on my A5s up to ear-level, and they're purdier than the stack of phonebooks I had previously. Attached: world's shittiest picture.
  2. Useless bump to say that I agree with this 100%, even though I still have an awkward mancrush on Helo (but Amy knows I want to have her babies moar).
  3. My ears are small enough that they don't press against those shower drains too much. I think foam protection would actually irritate me a bit more with the level of contact I get. Although I've never worn a Grado for more than a half-hour or so, so I'm mostly talking out me bum. Guess I'll find out soon enough!
  4. ' Koenjihyakkei - Nivraym (apparently re-recorded and re-released?) Magma-style corny choral Zeuhl led by Yoshida Tatsuya = epic, wonderful weirdness. Tatsuya is definitely one of my favorite percussionists. Still prefer the more direct stop-start frenzy of Ruins, but this is classic. I like Koenjihyakkei's next album, Angherr Shisspa, a bit better than this (feels a bit more serious and less in the Vander-worship mode). Edit: note: this is probably an. . . acquired taste.
  5. Another dumb question: I've seen a few posts on HF stating that the HF2 bowls have a bit shorter radius than the standard Grado bowls. I have no idea why that would actually be the case and doubt that it is. . . but is it? Reason I ask is: I just got back from dxc in Culver City and confirmed that I have ridiculously, embarrassingly tiny ears. RS-1s (pre-i) with bowls are totally circumaural for me, and my ears sit right up against the drivers. My ears stopped growing when I was 7, I guess. Just wondering, because I'd like to actually be able to reap the benefits of bowls over flats in terms of soundstage and balance, but I'm not sure if that'll be the case. Or do the flat pads have a slightly shorter radius (from the inner edge of the padding), such that they might sit on my apparently vestigial outer ears? I guess the positive aspect of being a sub-human freak is that Grados with bowls are pretty comfy on my noggin. [Edit: Sorry, meant to post this in the non-impressions thread. Please don't kill.]
  6. Oh fuck, I need to forget this thread exists. :gets the shakes:
  7. Autechre - Chiastic Slide. Poor little underrated transitional gem, imo.
  8. Heh; I worked for a bunch of greedy corporate law partners who decided it was best to lay off all of their first year associates 6 months after hiring them. I'd say they'd probably take the HF2s and run, but then again the headphones don't say Bose or QuietComfort (or 760il) anywhere on them. At least I made a decent amount of money off the fat cats for half a year-- the HF2s are my consolation prize for all the 14 hour days. I'll give Todd a call with my timing issue. I've been trying to avoid calling him because. . . well, because he's so frigging nice and I'm sure he's battling a few migraines right now. Incidentally, I still remember being shocked the first time I called TTVJ and none other than Todd himself answered the phone (and cheerfully!). Thought stuff like that went the way of the dodo right around the time Ford started that assembly line.
  9. Dumb question, but does anyone have any experience with asking Tawd to hold onto a package for a week or so? Per an email with him, it looks like my pair will be shipping out at roughly the same time that I travel out of the country. I don't want to get bumped back in line and have to wait for a new build-batch, but I also don't want FedEx to drop the package in front of my apartment for Neighbor McGrabbyhands. From my experience, Fed Ex won't take the extra 30 seconds to leave it in with the leasing office on the first floor, even if a signature is required. Woe is me, etc.
  10. I agree. Les wins! So I guess I'm the only one with Giger Dick desktop wallpaper? I can't help it, I was exposed to ELP at a young age. Greg Lake should be tried for child abuse imo.
  11. Hellz no, Bruins aren't even allowed in downtown LA.
  12. haha, thanks, boomana. I need work right now, so everyone should feel free to get into as much legal trouble as possible. ::is instantaneously disbarred::
  13. I think Bevmo's $.05 sale is still going on; it definitely is at their Pasadena location.
  14. Thank you, sir. And to anyone I pissed off due to the last page, apologies. I swear like a sailor in a Pynchon novel sometimes, and it makes me seem like more of an than I really am.
  15. Hey, I wanted to hug! And I don't want to join the Blame Les club, although they supposedly get really wonderful sandwiches from this little place across the street with ciabatta bread and a smoked gouda that's to die foooor. I don't think you have any sway with Grado personally. My sense was that Grado might have looked at the thread (or, more likely, he might have been notified about its contents) and sensed a little PR problem from the trend of the posts, and in his rush to fix things inadvertently caused a much worse one. To be fair, the trend of the posts was you complaining about X, and then a bunch of other people sarcastically acknowledging X. In which case, it's unfair to single you out, and I apologize for it. I'm not delusional, and it's not irrational to suspect the above, given the timeline of events. I'm a lawyer, and I'm a completely logical being, I swears! I don't honestly think it was "all because of Les," even if Les had a significant role to play as a trouble maker (even if you were acting with good intentions, which you probably were) in the HF2 thread. All the good people with their jokes about blurry HF2s could have had a hand in that as well. Grado might not get web forum sarcasm. In any case, it's just a typo. And no matter what caused it, it's really water under the bridge. Peace? I'm sorry you had bad luck with Grado in the past. You have a right to be pissed at them for that. Strider and allenf have a right to be pissed, too. If my HF2s come back with significant defects like theirs, I'd definitely return them and hope for a replacement; if no replacement was to be forthcoming, I'd probably never deal with Grado Labs again. Can we hug now? My initial post was supposed to come across as a bit more humorous than it apparently did. I'd probably buy you a beer if I met you in person.
  16. Don't add me to the ignore list; I'll be good. I'm not trying to be a troll, I'm just genuinely a little upset at the way this situation turned out. I've been lurking here since roughly 2006, and I appreciate the more conversational tone and great ears of the people here; it's a lot easier to cut through the noise and get impressions from you folks. I didn't mean to add to the noise myself. I'm not really angry at Les. It's just a typo, after all, and I look forward to getting lots of enjoyment out of the HF2s. Les, want to hug it out? Raif: you're probably right. Incidentally, so far the only people I can think of that have a reason to be genuinely angry with Grado about the rushed production of the HF2s are Striker and allenf, and that has nothing to do with a typo.
  17. Les, how is my venom self-serving? As opposed to you bitching about something with which you had no first-hand experience for 20 pages at head-fi? I'm not trying to draw attention to myself here, unlike you. I'm just venting because you caused a delay and a rush to resume production for no reason, and as a result, me and 400+ others are stuck with typos on our HF2s. I'd gladly cancel my order and punish Grado for listening to you flap your fucking mouth, except that everything I've read regarding the sound of the HF2s suggests that they're exactly what I want. You fucking douche/ insensitive clod! Edit: I actually harbor no ill will towards you whatsoever, but I think I have a right to be a little pissed off here. Because Grado caught wind of a huge bitchfest on Head-Fi about blurry cups, and didn't realize that everyone (but you, the most vocal member) was joking? It's either that or he went somewhere cheaper, because AFAIK none of the first 25 had any complaints. Given the timing of the delay/engraver switch right after the escalation of the Les Talk in the HF2 thread, it's hard not to think the former was the case.
  18. No, there were no "problems" with the original etching. The only information on the old etchings vs. the new etchings is that the new etchings are deeper, and thus it looks like there's more contrast for the lettering. The only reason why Grado would have gone with deeper etchings is because of your fucking complaints about blurry lettering. Nobody else (who actually owned a pair) had a problem with them. If they did, they can chime in, since they're all right here. Personally, I would have preferred the shallower etching anyway, since I'm not one of those nouveau riche, Dolce & Gabbana loving, Real Housewives of Orange Assfuck who needs conspicuous branding on my temples. Oh, and also, it would have been nice to avoid the typo that you caused. <3 PS: O hai head-case. Sorry for joining, but my Tourette's was going to get me banned at head-f1, as I couldn't respond to Les with appropriately colorful language. I'll go back to lurking now.
