To my ears, the sweetened turnings are really truly soured tunings. Most ive encountered have one string that is purposefully a few cents under, which to the ear makes it sound natural. On the ukulele, the tuning is GCEA, but the E is just ever so slightly under. I've found that the major third above the root tuning, my ear tends to prefer it to be slightly under, rather than slightly sharp which irritates me.

you should! I believe in the physics of it, can't hurt.

Family style backpack for first trip to Disney!

Nate, picked up a mountain hardware enterprise, probably the nicest bag we've ever had. Thanks bud for the rec. -
So the Peterson strobe tuner is worth it eh? I have the expensive ass iPhone app and purchased a few of the sweetened turnings, can't say I've messed with it enough to determine if it's better than my snark or my instuner app. I do like the flashing epileptic strobe indicator though.

Family style backpack for first trip to Disney!

Thanks Nate. We do plan on renting some kind of bob-type stroller for sure. No way we are letting these kids tire out too fast and get all whiny. Did not think about a little soft cooler! thanks for the bag rec! I've done Disney as a kid and as a teacher chaperone but never as a parent! -
Hello, this saturday day we are flying out for our first family trip to Disney world - Molly (age 5) and Myles (age 3) do not know yet, so don't say anything. The wife has appointed me to find a nice backpack that will hold all the typical little kids survival tools that will be needed - snacks, juice, rain ponchos, electronics, etc. I would love to know what you guys are using for family trips, this would be a backpack I would wear big enough to hold a bunch of stuff without being too bulky.

not quite. Ebony, I believe Macassar ebony to be exact. The reddish brown stripes do give it that BRW look though.

Newb question alert! ive been wearing my bambino every day since I've gotten it (Monday) for at least 9 hours (more than that for sure) and just noticed today it was about 4 seconds behind. Just confirming that is normal for an automatic watch of this type.
-
It is weird but very cool actually owning a real watch! Sometimes it's the simple things we don't realize how enjoyable they can be. I love it Jacob, I appreciate the recommendation. Already looking at my next bambino, the rose dial with brown band is tempting...

Ordered. Thanks Jacob.

Orient bambino is this the same as the one you linked? The model numbers are slightly different.
-
About $100 is about right.

http://www.mvmtwatches.com have any of you heard or know of these? i know nothing about watches and this will be the first real watch I've ever wore. Looking for something simple, classy, for work as well as going out casually.

Bryan, the drivers in your Algerians are dx65's, not 55's (I told you that). Completely different beast. And they are like $2000+ drivers. You are going to have to get really esoteric to beat those I'm afraid...

Looks great, and appreciate the hard work! -
Thanks Dusty. If anything the fishman loud box is overkill for my needs, which means in head-case terms its perfect. An Uke doesn't need all that much power obviously and the mini is an active pickup so there should be no signal issues. The Fishman mini has more than everything I could need, so I think we are good.
-
What are people using for amps? I'm getting a pickup installed, a misi acoustic trio, and looking at getting an acoustic amp. On the uke forums everyone recommends the Fishman loudbox mini.
-
Go with the Amazon one. Stewmac is extremely overpriced, according to my Luthier friends. The Amazon one is essentially the same.
-
I'm assuming the PSRR of the actual amp circuit is as high, if not higher, than the DSHA-1. If so, how much of an impact does the separate PS have, vs. an off the shelf switcher?

Not yet lol. I asked les to send me better pics of the black walnut. Myrtle is truly my favorite wood aesthetically, but in the end it comes down to sound and playability. I should also add I already have a Myrtle mya moe
-
I think that's a fair description. It is definitely on the better higher end of what ukes can sound like, but it's still within that realm of "uke sound" if that makes sense. The walnut is on the complete other end of the uke sound spectrum, it has a vintage warm classical quality to it I find appealing.
-
Thanks for the input guys. The black walnut is definitely more lush, fatter tone and has a nice low end with a very full midrange. The myrtle is probably closer to what we think of a ukulele sounding like, with very crisp highs. I definitely lean towards the walnut sonically, but the myrtle is very striking aesthetically. The Stansell I own currently is like the 5th one in the video, which i still feel is the best of them all
