After hearing what a separate amp did for my system, I was hooked. But I needed a real pre, other wise I still would have to go through the Denon receiver (A/D, processing, and then D/A) so when Klause talked about the Candela, and gave me a good deal, I caved and got it.

Talked to Klaus at Odyssey Audio today. The Odyssey Stratos Stereo Extreme is looking more like what I will end up getting at this point. I'll know more tonight when I call him back. Upgrades from the basic Stratos in the Stereo Extreme: Additional 60,000

I agree with Tkam, I can crank my Denon3808 to +18 (the max) and get almost no audible hiss with my Pass pearl phono hooked up, and totaly silent with my Denon 3930 hooked up. So the Denons can be dead silent.

Todd, I had hum and it was coming from unshielded ICs I got from Enigma. Switched to shielded IC and hum is gone (Denon 3808 to an Adcom amp) A buddy of mine has hum and its because his Modwright hi-dollar preamp is too close to his fancy CJ amp. He still has not been able to move his pre to entirely eliminate the problem. Hope some of this helps. Pete

Come to find out the loaner Adcom I am using supposedly had $400 of upgrades from PS Audio before its current owner bought it. I wonder how I can verify that. This makes me wonder if another Adcom higher in the line will sound as good as the one I am using now...
