Happy birthday!

I'm going to make this brief. headphones: Koss KSC75. Then the Sennheiser PX100. Your choice. IEM= In Ear Monitor, they go inside your ear. most suck, some are good, but those are all $250+ noise canceling headphones= the devil, distortion like mad. stay away! There is no such thing as an "MP3 headphone." MP3 refers to the music file on the digital side and has nothing to do with headphones. Headphones reproduce analogue sound for your ears. welcome to headcase, sorry about your sanity.

wow... nice... if you're in Nor Cal anytime, please drop by.... I'd love to hear those.

This totally made me crack up..... check out the Stalin Kitty! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYVrg4D9sVM]YouTube - それとなく似ている similar[/ame] btw: is it just me or is the "lets vote" thread turning into a strange experiment....

what the fuck? didn't you like convince me never to buy a portable amp? hope the AE-2 works out.

while regis would be fine, I don't want the show moving to NY. It's like a seasonal destination for college groups in CA.

I don't think Rosie should host "the price is right."

wow..... so many high end sources....
-
no.... (i now see myself with the job of emailing everyone.... ).... maybe i'm just venting because i can't finish that damn post.
-
no... i mean for gathering information. Example: they don't tell me what they actually do inside the amp. When it comes to dacs I want to organize them(for the "all the dacs money can buy" thread)... and know what's inside before i buy them. well, i can't do that if they puff smoke all over the product! most of the dacs on that thread that don't have details are precisely for this reason... goes from the low end all the way to 5-15K dacs.... smoke, smoke and more smoke! example: http://www.twindac.com/Innovations.htm

what the hell is this.... seriously 1100 USD for that?http://www.bluecircle.com/index.php?page_id=6938 i seriously get annoyed at companies like this... don't even tell me what's in the output stage. Their dac is worse... doesn't tell me the DA chips, upsampling, or output they use.

I got bored so i started updating the "all the dacs money can buy" thread on HF... anyone have any new (or old) dacs to add?
-
neh... just plug those 340s into your ipod and you're good to go

is it just me or is everything new always going to be treated with skepticism and dismissed by this forum?

the HE90 and then the K1000.

Ramblings on the importance of amps
granodemostasa replied to aerius's topic in Headphone Amplification
a little preaching to the choir no? the thing is that most people who would buy big time amps for their stuff are not going to keep the HD580 or SR225 as their main can... they might as well move onto the RS-1. I think, at the top, most people do recognize what improves and what doesn't improve (for example, I always liked the 325i better than the RS-1 until i started hearing the RS-1 on 2K$+ headphone amps.) The problem is how we answer the question. Say someone comes to Head-fi with a question "what is the best amp for my RS-1," the amps that they are likely to get are "mapletree," "melos" or "hornet." Now, ask that question about the HD650 and you'll get responses like "Cary 300sei" "SDS-XLR" "B52" and other very expensive amps. -
Ramblings on the importance of amps
granodemostasa replied to aerius's topic in Headphone Amplification
because most grados suck and are unworthy of a decent amp okay... i admit, the GS1000 is pretty good... and deserves a maestro (at least), and the PS-1 and Hp series... blah. but most people have RS-1s... If i were a grado fan-boy, i'd buy it a kick ass amp... i don't know why others don't want ZD or supra or 300sei amps... -
Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
granodemostasa replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
Hi I did your experiment.. and the problem originates when the ZD and F1 are hooked together. I've always been told that my amp should have it's own power outlet so that's what each one has. here's how it goes: Transport and Dac share a single filtered outlet, a triplite filter connects them Zana Deux has it's own outlet (straight to wall) Firstwatt has it' own outlet (straight into wall) how should I change this configuration? -
Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
granodemostasa replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
I just did this and there is no hum straight from the F1... so it must originate before it gets to the power amp. questions: why didn't i hear anything with the K1000 straight connected to the ZD? could it be something in the connectors?... i'm going to try using adapters and the balanced inputs and see what happens then. -
Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
granodemostasa replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
I have not put the ZD atop the F1 yet.. should I? right now the F1 is on the ground, like humanflyz had it at his place. I think I'm starting to Isolate some of the issues now. there are noisy tubes in my amp. However... there is one very slight hum on the L channel that seems separated from the ZD (continues after ZD is turned off and out of the chain). i''m going to try to get people over to confirm what i'm hearing... btw: 99% of the time, it doesn't show up... only when i'm not playing music in a quiet room and have the driver next to my ear do I ever hear anything. also: this thing sounds incredible... this is like falling in love with music all over again... -
Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
granodemostasa replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
oh, i didn't finish the story. Turns out that she had only 4 of the 5 tubes in place.. and it didn't have anything to do with power... just a missing tube. The ZD has to be the pre-amp because the F1 doesn't have a volume pot..... so yea, i'm using the pre-amp out of the ZD. My other option is to use the GS-X as the pre-amp (but i don't like that combo's sound much). i'm going to listen and test some more to figure it out.... right now I'm suspecting my Left 6c33b... -
Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
granodemostasa replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
i'm looking into it. part of the problem was the power apparently... i gave the F1 it's own power outlet and it got better.. but not entirely solved. The ZD is driving the F1, not the K1000... so there isn't much stress on the ZD. i'm looking into the possibility of tubes causing it.. so i'm switching tubes in and out... I've never had issues with the ZD's power cord or power...but I'm not ruling that out. I swapped ICs and it didn't do anything.. I did play the K1000 straight from the ZD for a little while.. and there was no L channel hum on that.... -
Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
granodemostasa posted a topic in Headphone Amplification
hi. Okay, here is the low-down, I'm borrowing the F1 from Humanflyz. I connect the F1 to my ZD as a pre and then the K1000. However, I get a hum. where is it coming from? Well, i switch sources... that's not it. I turn the volume all the way up on the ZD and it's still the same (meaning it doesn't originate with the ZD). The only other option is that the F1 is the cause. Since i didn't hear it at Mike's, i'm sure I must have caused it. the issue here is whether the problem is caused at the "power" source (since i'm connecting it to a general 5 outlet power strip) or the PC (since it's just a standard computer Power cord). The other option is that i may be getting interference...
