When do you consider an amp "high end"

gold knobs, polished chromer faceplate, and 10K interconnects. -

I agree, but it's usually this area where the good sounding stuff starts to come in. in DIY, the line is where the dynahi/B22 comes in. -

usually the 1500$ mark is the cut off point. just where the ZD, GS-X, Supra, dynamight, etc.. come into play. -
Yea, i can't figure it out. all three have serious issues with cooking decent pizza. Jupiter burns their crust way too often, pie in the sky is selling pancakes (basically) and elipse is just plain bad. I actually have to go on a journey to Zachary's into the city to get decent pizza. Next time i'm in LA, i'll check out that place.

I got a Pizza.... this lady spend an astonishing amount of money buying this place, renovating it, and setting up one of the best looking pizza restaurants/cafe/bars in Berkeley. It's located just 100 feet from my apartment building's entrance, right in Downtown, they got this big staff with chef uniforms and waiters, they even set up this big brick oven right in the middle so people can watch them make the Pizza. And it sucks, I mean, it really fucking sucks. I guess you can't buy a good recipe (or maybe it's what they forgot to buy). my block now has three pizza joints located on it....

that thing also lacks decent treble and bass extension... maybe this guy has a sibilant system and needed to slay the highs to get them under control..

all high end out of production hp owners...

that senn's gonna have an msrp of something like 1K, so it damn better be good (otherwise i'll jump on the K1K bandwagon). -
i was talking about bass texture... read the sentence before it! the K701 isn't in my rig anymore (and i doubt i'll ever return ) the K701 is a nice can, and it sounds a little better put together SE from the GS-X than the SE650 from the same amp... (not the case with the ZD however) the RS-1 is distorted, shrill, and sounds like a couple of hammers on the side of my head.

I liked the GS1000.... when I EQed it to to my tastes. there's alot of potential there, just the treble and bass need to be tweeked a bit. and ya... whoever said it is right, the GS1000 doesn't have particularly good dynamics. in any case, the GS1K isn't a head-fi favorite no more than any of the cans that are constantly praised here, and btw: the RS-1 sucks.

New appreciation for the "new" AKG sound.

what, no K701 love here? -
I had suspected this for quite a while, but I've only been able to say it a few times. At the Los Angeles Meet, after I had heard everything I wanted to hear, I picked up Headroom's K701 and tried to find the perfect SE amp for it. the idea was that eventually I'd find the perfect synergy, and I did. No, it wasn't some maxed SP amp or that lovely ZD, or even the powerful blockhead... but, a humble DIY dynahi that really brought it up to life. fast forward about a year... Over this summer i've been blessed by the opportunity to baby sit Humanflyz's GS-X. It really did some amazing things to the HD650 (fully balanced of course, with Daba's Benchmarck Dac-1). And that is when the thought hit me. I called Kitaoji, and she graciously let me borrow the K701. Now, i've hated this can for quite some time, I've called it dead, dry, analytical, unexciting and so forth, but this was totally different. Several people have told me the Zana Deux is as good as the K701 gets, but i'm now sure it isn't. While with the Zana Deux the K701 expresses a bit of dryness and musical-yawning, it comes to life on the GS-X. The difference isn't even close, the HD650 is the one that sounds a little dry and un-musical on the GS-X in comparison to the K701. What i'm hearing is certainly new. The soundstage expresses a "completeness" that I haven't heard from the HD650, and the bass is actually warm and well textured..... while i can't claim it's better than the K1000, it certainly does things the K1000 could only wish doing.

happy birthday!

I don't know about that..... the extreme is great for what it does... but all sp amps i've tried so far are too tuby and un-transparent for my taste. maybe i'm not a real tube lover.... i just want tube/delicacy and texture with SS sound. whatever the case, the ZD isn't bad for it's price.... I clearly prefer it over the GS-X, despite the balanced factor...

you might want to take a look at this: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=205744&highlight=mpx+slam+zana+deux

humanflyz: i really think you should let me test out the L3000 on the Zana Deux, so we can find out how good the synergy is
-
a BNC to RCA adaptor... the result: i can now use the benchmark Dac-1 and the VDA-2 at the same time

Help me fix a hum on the Firstwatt F1/K1000
granodemostasa replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphone Amplification
Hey, after about a month of no hum, something happened. Is this the infamous EMI? whatever it is, a "buzz" (like a bee) is going in.... and out..... and in..................and out............. of the system on both channels. -
Belkin is already making adapters for the jack... (but you should have known this before buying it... every review site on the planet has talked about this).

so you don't think it's on level with other 2K dacs? yea... it's a little scratched there and there, but if anyone has seen my HD650s i don't mind blemished looks so long as it sounds great.
-
yea it did, and my curiosity for constantly switching gear has been satisfied by mini meets and Humanflyz's system. now i want to hear what you think about the GS1000! (and can someone set up a bass shootout between the GS1K and the L3K and ED9?)

http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlconv&1188127397 hey, I'm wondering why is this still for sale. I mean, it's a teac right? If this was two months from now I would be all over this thing in a heart-beat. do they(agon people) know something I don't?
-
I haven't purchased a single thing since the VDA-2.

I'm sorry for your loss...

Great review, that one actually tells me quite a bit (and that i might be wanting an MS-pro).
