Should I sell my rig? How about nearfield moniors?
granodemostasa replied to granodemostasa's topic in Headphones
I live in one room... and I don't own it, so treating and positioning... not gonna happen. -
hi I spent to years creating this baby but if I were to apply my old rule of "what to keep" in an audio rig then the whole headphone side would have to go. here is the rule: if a certain component gets less than 10 percent of playing time, then It is not worth keeping, no matter how good a deal it was or how much it is worth. The thing strangely is that ever since i hooked up my M-Audio DX4 speakers to the VDA-2, the sound has been satisfactory enough so that I don't feel like I want to switch to my headphones and do the whole "cable" and volume/zana deux thing. so my at home listening is now 85 percent or more speakers. the other development is that I've gone back to listening on my cell phone to KSC=75 alot. it's a portable development, i take long walks (20 minutes or more at a time) and I also spend long times in the office and on campus doing mindless work (example, sorting out information for non profits, or researching piles of data to find certain characteristics in Oakland's San Antonio neighborhood). the point is that this type of listening is like 20 percent and dominated by my ksc-75 (which sounds like ****, btw). The thing is that now i'm tempted to go out and buy a real portable rig (and a pico, we'll see how good that thing really is soon). the ZD really is great, when I sit down and relax, listen and fire up the big rig, it really is like going into a concert hall. but in such a busy atmosphere that happens like once a week and just may not be worth it to me any more. On the other hand, selling it poses problems... how do i deliver a Zana Deux, Can i sell something that was given to me (Azur player), will I use it in the future.. and Can i get studio monitors that are as good as the big rig?

i'd get a d5000 and built a rig around it. it's pretty different from the HD650 and rather inoffensive sounding. (i owned it for a while, but sold it after i realized that it wasn't breaking into 10% of my listening time). that being said, I do remember tyll talking about some new cans for the new year... so waiting might be an option. (if you're around, tyll, correct me or add more info please).

Me and my Zana Deux (+ pics)...

Hey, Mulveling, do you want to try out the "zana deux tube rolling kit?" (you can read about it on HF) -
shitty writing, no creativity in the musical arrangement, singing is unspectacular... it would make 90 percent of people fall asleep.... that and that genre is mostly crap anyway.

that thing needs to be put in a gold and polished black case with a big wooden knob...

i guess i sorta expect something like that to come... sorry it had to happen though.

from my impressions, the triple fi>>>>> the E500. for my preference, it's not even close. others may disagree. btw: i've heard both on multiple occasions and for more than an hour.

I have a 76 percent match with Bill Richardson... sounds about right to me. turns out Obama is the second choice (Duh!), with around 70 percent. the rest of the dems turn out to be in the 60s, and Asshat Brownback at the bottom of the barrel. I like my brother's quote about Romney: "The more you learn about him, the more ambiguous he becomes."

new dac considerations (for computer transport)
granodemostasa replied to mjg's topic in Home Source Components
I have compared the bel canto 3 to the vda-2 and benchmark dac-1. What I got out of it, was that it is a deeper, firm, authoritative sound compared to the relatively light vda-2 and dac-1. While it's not a league above the rest, I certainly liked it over the other 1K dac's that I've found....and they usually go for about 1600$ on A'gon. The transporter is also a possible option, although I have not had a chance to sit down with it in my own rig (however the stello DP200>F1>K1000 rig mike had was way better than the Transporter>F1>K1000 rig at the national). I didn't like the wavelenght brick.. but i'm not sure about the cosine, i'd have to hear it. -

I personally like the Bel Canto Dac-3 for this category of built in-usb dacs. it sounded quite good, and I prefer it to all the 1K dacs out there. -
well.. if you're not listening to those L3Ks.... i'd like to check out why 909 is always raving about it and the ZD comb btw... i didn't see speakers the last time i was at your place... what'd you get?
