  1. i saw a "silver" brick on the forum today for 2400.... i didn't even know they made such an expensive version of it....
  2. haha... adding a ps-1 atop of this rig would literally blow my mind out. i switched the ICs and it truely made all the difference... i don't often say it, but those Grover UR8 cables do wonders for opening up the sound, getting rid of muddiness, tightening the bass and extending the treble. in any case, i still find things to be lacking in soundstage and speed... i'm sending the Zhaolu in for more mods... so i'll be interesting to see what ori has been cooking up for the zhaolu. also, there is a reality that the brick is lacking in dynamics... i'm looking directly at it's little wal wort and wondering if i could get someone to build me, or find out there, a 13.5v ac power supply....
  3. update: sounds much better after swapping the interconnects...the bass is tighter, things are not as warm and in slow as in the past.... still, things are not that good.... it still doesn't have the soundstage that i crave.
  4. what makes the zhaolu such a good dac that it's worth adding output stage after output stage to it? gah.. too much bass! my head hurts! maybe the K701 will cure this.
  5. preliminary report: comparison Zhaolu- faster, cleaner, more treble brick- more impactful, a bass and a midrange, not just treble. actually sounds natural, no artificial coat or sheen. bad: brick's got a not so good soundstage, and it reminds me of how tuby and bassy my headphone rig has become... i think i've lost the treble... either i get a GS1000, silver ICs or loose the brick. good- my system actually has some authority to it's sound, and some naturalness... no longer a cheap source.. and vocals sound amazing.
  6. pst.. i had to get out of the street because everyone kept reminding me of it...
  7. better idea.. i'm going to hold on to my old rig, and then compare them and then decide.....
  8. screw this, i'm mailing him and telling him this sale is off (cold feet). his own personal review said it was tuby and such... i'm not lining out my rig for the GS1000 yet, i'm a sennheiser and don't need more tubes!
  9. sorry, my question is: how does it sound, what is it's sound sig and characteristics.
  10. I was on A'gon and saw this for 1000 and couldn't resist..... and i actually was the first to get it... i pondered, i searched, i asked and found no rea answers or reviews... except engineering jib jab about it's interface. So i went ahead and bought it. now i'm left wondering if i should sell it the second i get it... the insides don't look all that impressive... and the reviewers seem so enchanted by it's USB input that they forgot to check how it sounds.
  11. just got a couple of hours with those W5000s... they're good for some music... just not my music.
  12. soundstage? what amp are you using with that?
  13. wow... that was bad. you're arguements are nearly as bad as your sennheiser cables. now, i tend to lean to the right on many issues.. but i certainly don't want to as my spokesman.
  14. Hi. i'm wondering if there hvae been any reviews or other impressions of the unit yet? Thanks
  15. so Pelosi is making Multha the majority leader! i wouldn't be suprized if all those new moderate democrats launch a revolt against her. seriously.. this is exactly what she needs to do in order to make sure her majority lasts only 2 years.
  16. nice! wow... great CD player.
  17. well, if it's not discussed.. how will we know what's allowed and what is on the edge and what is not allowed? alot of the stuff i've seen people here get banned for would never have crossed my mind as something worhty of a bann had i it not been posted on this forum.
  18. what in the world... after the donations to Head-fi! after organizing the LA Meet! how did this happen
  19. very true.. the ZD heats up my place 10 degrees above the outside temperature. but it doesn' melt or anything... so far no damage.
  20. looks like rumsfeld resigned.... miracles do happen.
  21. I live in berkeley, so I hear your arguements quite a bit. The basic problem is that this is a party representative system; it neglects the idea of geographical representation. what it would do is endanger the uniquely american conception of local politics and local politicans in favor of a more european like party centered approach to politics. that is, the politicans won't be loyal to their own constituents as they would be to the leadership of their own parties. considering the massive middle in American politics, i don't actually think it would be a good idea ot devise a system that would benefit the far ends of the political spectrum. There are several suprizing things about this election. With Howard Dean as the party chairman, the Democrats went straight towards the center and seized it across the country. In a year of democratic wins, in the bluest state of the Union, Phil Angelides, the democratic canidate for governor, still lost by over a 20 point margin. What this could mean is that the Republican party might head the way of Arnold Schwarzenegger in future elections. The California 11th changed hands, a seat that was considered safe. And, ultimately that is the most suprizing thing about this election. There were only about 20 districts considered in play going into the last week of the election, the democrats would have had to have won nearly every one of them. what happened was that they won a good share of those; but started winning districts they were not suppose to win. At the end, taking over 230 House seats happened; but had never been considered a possibility. WHat makes this most significant is that the gerrymandering of the seats and the incumbant advantages probably exaggerated how much the republicans held on; it could have been much worse. the simple fact that such a massive power change can occur in this day is remarkable and something i wouldn't have considered 2 or 4 years ago.
  22. although i have not voted today, yet, and the garbage man woke me up; it is my duty, no my pleasure, to inform you that, while i was parking today in the parking lot-nearest Oxford RD- a man came up to me and told me his B52 caused fires all over Korea fifty years ago.
  23. that's not the point; what i'm saying is that these were meet impressions and are not said often by me precisely because they are not true reviews and would not help anyone but myself make a decision about them. It's quite possible to have gear grow on you, or get to appreciate it's characteristics better after a while; some things are just not that noticable at a meet. For example, i really did hate the G-lite after an hour, but after taking it home for close to a month i came to appreciate it's good qualities. ...... hey, who know... i may even grow to like the look of headroom amps if i ever lived with one.
  24. if that's the case.... i think the mpx's treble is too soft and delicate, the b52 is screechy, the meredian 508.24 doesn't have enough impact (but good bass though), the Stello 220 doesn't have bass, the ori-zhaolu's notes have no authority, the RS-1 is cold and distorted, headroom amps are ugly, the Dynamight is cold and analytical-in a bad way, most ath headphones exaggerate treble and are too sweet (except the L3K, it's amazing), and an hour's impressions are good enough to go on meet impressions thread; but they shouldnt' count as reviews.
